I don't think I've ever seen a place with such a clear and coherent vision.

And this Xakememorinatri, who has this amazing vision and founded this region, they're a real luminary of Nationstates. You can't play this game and not know the name Xakememorinatri. I mean, how many of us wanted the nation name Xakememorinatri for ourselves, and were annoyed that someone else got there first, all those years ago?

I'd head there right now, but I've not been invited. I mean, Forest has so much to learn from Adaliumocun. Shalotte, when you transfer there do you think you could put in a good word and speed up my application to join the region?

Step up your game, Forest!

I agree, this is why I was so tempted.

And now it's time for our regular, traditional feature, that I haven't made up at all just now:

You know, I'm 15th in Forest for residency, but I might just go to Adalibabbilah, or whatever it is...

Then I would no longer be "your long-suffering foreign affairs branch," but these are the big things that go on the scales when you plan your future...

Edited for sarcasm.

Much is being said here about adoption, as if it were something simple: You just stop by your local adoption agency, submit your application, and make your choice. Take your new family member home, celebrate, bond, adjust, and show the world what a great family you have. Maybe you’re thinking of cat adoption.

The real process with human children involves having your family scrutinized extremely, and if you qualify, then being forced to share custody with some very irresponsible biological parents who have had their child removed from their household, presumably for very good reasons, but who still retain the right to be considered essential partners in the child’s upbringing. There’s usually a fostering period involved too, before any adoption actually starts, when the child is placed with you temporarily, for some period of time while the biological parents try to get themselves fixed up. (Note that there’s often physical and emotional scars, and sometimes prenatal substance abuse-related physical and mental damage to the child, that’s both heartbreaking and expensive). You naturally become very attached to your new family member, but must keep in mind that they may still be returned to their family of origin if the authorities deem the former parents to be reformed. Then you are back to no family again.

Or maybe you really want to adopt a newborn. That’s a lot more difficult. There are a lot of abortions of unwanted children, and a lot of unexpected parents who want to give parenting a try at least for a year or two, or who get help from other family members until they feel ready for parenting. Newborns available for adoption aren’t as common these days.

You could try an overseas adoption agency, if you have enough money and don’t mind spending a lot of time waiting and hoping everything works out. You will have to go to the place where the child is born and wait around for weeks, hoping to be approved by the agency that’s selling the child to you. You can also only hope that the biological parents have actually given informed consent and if so, that they don’t change their minds. There’s probably a language and cultural barrier that will make it impossible for you to know with any degree of certainty what the details are.

To be perfectly clear, I do not advocate bringing children into the world just to have them be biologically related to you. In-vitro fertilization and other fertility treatments really make me uncomfortable, knowing the effort and expense involved just for the biological connection preference. There are an incredible number of children who already need good homes, and prospective parents who are willing and able to afford to adopt should definitely do so.

Just don’t think of it as a simple alternative.

I’d pronounce it as:
shah-keh-meh-mor-rin-NAT-tree
/ʃɑːkɛməmɔrɪˈnɑt͡ʃriː/

But I guess pronunciatory estimates are probably based off of one’s native language and/or the languages that they can recognize by ear. For example, I’ve always loved how “x” makes a /ʃ/ sound in Nahuatl, and so that impacted my estimate for the pronunciation. Interesting

This is a good point, and a lot of people don't realize the massive lengths that must often be traversed in order to finally successfully adopt a child.

Most of these regulations were put in place because of abuses in the system. It could have been as simple a thing as you first describe, but for the awfulness of humanity that had to be accounted for, in the end. Sadly, this only leads to hardships on the other end that often still result in heartbreak and loss. It's hard to know whether the net result is less pain in the world, the way it is now. But I hope it is...

Dear friends,

We have been approached by the region of India, which is interested in forming an embassy with Forest! The minimum WA nation and age requirements are in order, and the request has formally come in from them. India's Foreign Affairs Minister, Awell islands, sent us the following telegram:

---

"Hello residents of Forest and park rangers,

I am a diplomat from the region of India and was the ex-prime minister two times in a row. India is a region which has been existing for since the late 2000s and is continuing to thrive and flourish due to vast amount of active population, the Indian culture and pride that everyone shows, and the keen interest to have fun and grow in NS and on discord as well.

I have come across Forest multiple times and especially love the environmentally friendly theme in your region and I personally am a big supporter of saving our planet and making it a cleaner place to be and have done campaigns and awareness events across NS numerous times in many different regions.

India is a sovereign region that is oozing of beauty and the passion towards the motherland and our love for one another keep us all together. There are countless Indian languages being spoken in India where most of them are different Indian languages, but we also have some non-Indian language speakers who come from Greece and other parts of the world.

I hope the citizens of Forest snoop in our region and get to know more about us and I look forward to hopefully establishing relations in the form of an embassy with you all. Thank you for reading and have a lovely rest of your day!"

Hello our dearest allies!

The Parliament of Sonindia extends its warmest greetings!

The Kingdom of Europaterre
Head of the Sonindian Parliament

The Royal Isles of Shalotte, as part of our continuing, largely impotent fight against the World Assembly, decries their continuing discrimination at ranking nations in order of 'largest trout fishing sector', when many nations have no trout to fish. This persistent way of keeping down nations without access to certain species of fish is a coordinated tactic of international denigration against those who do not conform with the WA's ideology, and Shalotte will not rest until this discriminatory ranking system is corrected.

By including 'largest puffin hunting sector' among their ranking lists.

I've got a real life IT-question over here. I bought a tablet for my (digitally challenged) parents a couple of years back....and all went well until my dad somehow triggered the factory reset protection. Now this thing keeps asking for the "original" Google account I synchronised the device with. I have 2 , one for myself and one for my dad but I suspect I created a completely new account for this device which I completely forgot about. Anyway after trying with the 2 accounts with no luck and searching for a possible third account also with no luck I kind of gave up and called the supplier (Medion) to ask them to completely reset it. Although I can prove I bought it from them they (politely) claim it is "not their problem" and that I should take it up with Google. Google however has no "support service" besides what is on their website and it just advices you to keep trying to find the "original" account.......In short I have a perfectly working device but I can't access it despite I can prove I bought it because for some reason the legal parties involved offer no help in lifting the factory reset protection. I am seriously inclined to just buy a new one to spare me further agitation but I can't help feel that it is such a waste...and that they somehow push for that to happen so they can sell me another product. If anyone knows of an alternative or a place where they are willing to "fix" it or there is an option to actually speak or chat with somehow from Google I would appreciate it.

You can also explain it with aquaculture. For example, Middle Barael did not want to drain their maritime resources, so they mandated that most of their fish must come from aquaculture. This has proved incredibly successful, and MB is even the 6th highest producer of fish in Forest. Middle Barael also grows aquatic plants and algae in the same tanks as the fish, which combats climate change. They also use the algae to make clean energy, and when the aquatic plants die, they go straight to the biogas industry, helping to produce clean energy. Please also note that in Middle Barael, “trout” can refer to all white-fish, and MB produces not only white-fish (trout) but also lots of salmon, tuna, and tilapia.

This is all fine, but the Gaeltyn of Shalotte would like to note, for the record, that Shalotte would top any and all "puffin-hunting" rankings, and therefore it is in our national interest to petiti- I mean, erm, in the interests of global competition or something.

Unfortunately, Eurovision 2020 was cancelled. Fortunately, that doesn’t mean we have to wait a year for some lovely songs. Enter Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga. Helmed by the comedian Will Ferrell and the always brilliant Rachel McAdams, this film not only gave a touch of silliness, but several excellent (mostly fictional) songs to assuage the agony of going an entire year without ruthlessly tearing down other nations (“Arcade” should never have won) have been granted to us. The only question now is this: which song reigns supreme?

You do realize that although the "real" eurovision songs were not performed on the Eurovision 2020 stage they were released and you are allowed to have an opinion on them.....I did. My favourites were Switzerland and Sweden and I actually liked the UK song. By the way I can't tell if your diss towards "Arcade" was genuine or just in good fun. I had way more problems with Netta the year before but to be fair I always have a slight negative approach to songs and artists that come across a bit too gimmicky.....

I agree that Netta’s song Toy was very... weird, but it had a good message, especially in the MeToo era, and it was very creative and Eurovision-esque and even kind of catchy, so I don’t thing it was bad. I really liked the Israeli song again this year with the 4 languages (English, Hebrew, Amharic, and Arabic), and I liked also how Eden Alene was the first African singer in Eurovision. I also liked the Billie Eilish-style song, though I can’t remember what country it was from.

In the Eurovision Movie, I loved the song that Sigurð wrote and sang in the end, and I also really liked Double Trouble and Lion of Love, but my favorite has got to be “Ja Ja Ding Dong”. So catchy!

I was following Eurovision 2020 as well, though I haven't seen the recent movie that was released. I'm quite disappointed about, though understanding of, the cancellation, since I thought several countries that have never won finally had a chance at the crown. My favourites this year were Iceland, Lithuania, Russia and Bulgaria. Also: Middle Barael, the Billie Eilish song was probably Bulgaria. I remember seeing a lot of comparisons there with that song.

Regarding Netta in 2018, I liked her song, and I voted for it in the final along with Estonia (Though mostly because my favourites Belgium and Latvia got stuck in the semis). It really seemed to me that many people were very much into the song until it won, at which point they all turned against it.
