NAGATAR KARUMUTTU CHETTIAR

The Divine Empire of Nagatar Karumuttu Chettiar commonly called Nagatar or NKC, is an Empire near the equator in the west of the planet Alakana. It is bordered on the north by the former NAROS territory now controlled by colonial powers, on the south by Kian Khe, by the east by the unclaimed wild plains of the continent, and on the west by the Katavulin Ocean. Nagatar Karumuttu Chettiar covers 14.318 million square kilometers and has has an estimated population of 3.529 Billion. Nagatar Karumuttu Chettiar comprises of 13 Kingdoms and 1 Territory.

Nagatar Karumuttu Chettiar is an Empire of the past. With lush jungles and rainforests in the south, the wetlands of the Pavala Amaiti Wetlands, the cactus deserts of the far north, to the savanna just south. It clings on to the past, its people being fiercely patriotic, and unwilling to let go of it's ancient culture. A ban on video games, and the internet has been instituted, almost snuffing out computer activity totally. A ban on computers outside the government & military is being considered as well.

The Empire is also extremely isolationist, only trading with it's allies, Sarkis and Kian Khe, though trade is restricted to 15 Cargo Ships full every year, and all traders must act, dress, and speak in the Nagatar fashion. Meaning following the culture of the nation, dressing in the dhoti for men, and the Sari for women, and speaking in the language Tamil. The borders, though allowing immigration, as well as emmigration are mostly only used for the tourists (who also have to follow the code traders do) and businessmen traveling overseas.

HISTORIES

The Old Histories / Early Era
At its founding, the Empire was merely a clan. The year was 11,358 BCE (32 BPK), a child was born into the clan Nagatar, his name was Periyasami Krishnan, the legends had been when this child would be born, he would be blessed by Vishnu, with a Divine Soul. The Nagatar Clan was a powerful one in the region, with over 2,300 family members recorded at the time, many were simple farmers. But that was all about to change, you see, P Krishnan was born to Uma Thyagara and Ram Thyagara, the clan's Matriarch and Patriarch, he was next in line for the leadership of the clan.

Through his childhood he made many miracles. He predicted the harvests, he solved family disputes, and could befriend an animal with just a look. He grew up as a shepherd, but one day, protecting his cows, a demon attacked him, fearing he would grow in power as he aged. He pulled his bow on it, shot a simple stone arrow at the demon, but while the arrow was in the air, he said a small chant, and pointed his hand towards the demon. The arrow collided perfectly in it's single eye. It yelled in pain, so loudly all the villagers came out to see the great fight play out. The creature, now blind, charged at Periyasami, he jumped over the three metre beast, and onto its shoulders. Wrestling it to the ground, before heroically putting his spear through its filthy, evil, heart.

Sometime during the year 11,328 BCE he was given Patriarchy as was his right as firstborn male to the previous one upon turning aged 30. The ceremony was kind, the clan getting together at the clan meeting halls, and bestowing upon him is title, Patriarch Periyasami Krishnan, which at the time, was simply a title that came with the powers to name every child born into the clan, as well as call meetings with the clan elders to discuss punishments for wrongdoings, and leading the clan into self-defense. Periyasami intended to expand that power.

Immediately after gaining power he set to work. His first reforms were to build a warrior corp that would stay active during peacetime. During the council he claimed it was in case of suprise raiding, but everyone knew what he intended the minute he put himself in charge of them. Every boy from the age of 17 in the clan was to serve at least two years as a warrior before the age of 24, or never be able to marry. A man could only marry after spending time as a warrior. This vastly increased the military prowess of the Nagatar clan, but as word of this spread, his enemies, the Karumuttu, and Chettiar clans, the two other powerful clans in the region formed an alliance to topple his regional might.

They met on the battlefield many times, Pariyasami managing just barely to hold them off. The night before the final battle, Pariyasami prayed to the Mother Goddess Lakshmi who was Vishnu's wife, and Vishnu as well. Lakshmi appeared before him. Promising him great luck in the battle the following day for his devotion, and promising giving him a golden tipped arrow dipped in holy water that would aid him in a way he knew not yet. But first he must gather a pot filled with cows milk and rice, and pour honey and coconut flesh while heating the pot it was in until it became thick. So he followed the goddesses orders, gather just those things, and doing as she said. It was a few minutes to midnight when he returned to the temple. The Goddess appeared before him once more, and told him to feed the dish, which would be forever called Lakshminan to the temple elephant. Initially he protested, those goods he used were worth to much to feed to the temple elephant. But he did as he was told, with great sorrow.

As he laid the pot before the elephant, midnight struck. The food within the pot began to leave the pot, floating into the air, where the Elephant at most of it. A pot of water was laid beside it, which glowed, and the water within it floated away into the sky. The Elephants eye's glowed gold, he spoke to Pariyasami, "Allow me to be your War Elephant tommorow, friend.", in a wise, old voice he then said "Look not at the enemy, but at the sun, for it, shall be your guide. I will look at the enemy, for you, my friend." Then the elephant lay down to sleep for the night. As did Periyasami.

Come the following day the armies lined up to fight, and Periyasami took his seat atop the Elephant. He looked out at the enemy, but his eyes stung, he remembered what he had been told, he looked at the sun. As the battle started, he continued to look at it, but at one time, worried by what he heard below him, looked down at the enemy, he was blinded, and regretted it immeadiatly. "I told you not to look down!" The Elephant boomed. Periyasami, saddened, wondered if he should stop the battle, but when he opened his eyes, he could see once more, he saw the sun. But as he tried to look away from it he saw no more. Suddenly, in front of the sun he saw the greatest warrior of the other clans, son of the Cheiftain of one of them, a viscious man named Kalia. He saw him in the sun. Immeadiatly he drew his bow and arrow, pulling the special arrow on Kalia. A normal arrow could not penetrate the warriors gold chestplate, but this one did, transforming Kalia into a giant snake man, a Naga. Kalia landed on the Elephant chariot, and tackled Periyasami off of it. Despite Periyasami's blindness, Kalia did not treat him as weak, wrestling him with spears and fists, Periyasami was losing, but he looked at the sun, shaking off Kalia, he grabbed him, and threw him a thousand leagues, Kalia would never been seen again.

As he sat in a meditation position, the battle around him seemed to quiet, as he opened his eyes, no longer blind, he was quite surprised to find every soldier on both sides bowed down to him. The other clan cheifs approached him, and swore loyalty to him, and his cause. But they would be at his sides to offer advice whenever it was needed, and serve as Kings for each of their regions, answering to him, the Divine Cheiftain. The clans united as one, Nagatar Karumuttu Chettiar. One name for each clan.

After the events of the founding, the Empire it had still not officially become a Kingdom, a remained now a sort of a farming and trading tribe until Periyasami's death in 11,314 BCE. His body floated towards the heavens when he died and was never seen again. But the sucessors to him squabbled, nearly bringing the Empire to ruin. But the Empire was gradualy expanding. Its population grew faster because of the stability of the unted tribes, which made them harder to attack. A Chieftain, Chief Pandian, declared himself Raja, establishing the Great City of Pudukottai. He initially believed the nearby lake, Pavala Amaiti, to be an ocean, building his capital near it for that reason, declaring himself Raja, King. Though Pandian was thought to be his name we don't truly have a true consensus on it as of now. But what he would go on to do would astound the ancient world.

He built a huge army, using it to, however unethically, go sacking the villages around the Raja unless they paid tribute, and this boosted imperial funds tremendouly, allowing, under Raja Pandian's rule great monuments to be erected. Many grand temples (by the ancient terms) were built to honour the Deva's (Gods) Dhanvantari, Vishnu, and Lakshmi under him as well. He built the foundations for what would become the Palace of the Divines as well, the current residence of the Divine Emperor. He built other things, such as a great armada of Tiremes. His rule is thought to have taken place between 8,452 BCE and 8,411 BCE. A fourty-one year rule. Kings that came after him followed his lead, though stopping the sacking of villages, growing the Kingdom to a regional power, though still quite small, the Kingdom was beginning to grow.

The Bronze Histories / Bronze Era
The Bronze Era is widely thought to be the greatest period of Nagatar expansion, incorporating 6 smaller regional Kingdoms into it from 4,597 BCE to 243 BCE. These crusades were led by many different Kings, leading to the Marupirappu (Rebirth). To understand the Marupirappu you must understand the nature of the Raja of the Kingdom in the 32nd Century BCE. He was a man known as Raja Ashwin Selvapandian. Ashwin was a truly great man, but was quite meek, he did not lead the armies of war himself, setting a precident that would last centuries, and perfered strategy to victory by numbers. Though a predicessor had previously incoperated one other Kingdom under Nagatar Suzeranity, Ashwin was not satisfied with that. He demanded that that Kindom, The Padava Raja, submit to his Kingdom immeadiatly, and when they refused, as he knew they would, he blew the conch of war.

But the Padava Raja was another power player in the region, with a similar history, looking back on it, either side could have won, Raja Ashwin's strategy was powerful, but the men on the other side knew his move just as well. Ashwin later likening it to a game of chess, speaking of how it was a grand match to outthink the other, and he later met with the Commander on the other side who devised strategy for the Padava's - Rajnikanth Kavad. He would become great friends with this man, eventually after the Padava defeat, asking him to join his armies, and strategize with him for the future. Little did he know it, but RH Kavad was also a first-class architect and engineer.

Now Ashwin was not a waring man, barely managing to capture and bring Padava Raja under his banner, despite being militarily superior in every way. Unable to deal with the population in the region's unrest, he left the Raja (King) of that region to govern it, giving him autonomy there, but having to respond and report to Ashwin, unable to conduct any foreign policy. Thus he stoped being a simple Raja. He became an Emperor, a Deva-Maharaja, or Divine Emperor, for his divine blood traced back to Chief Periyasami. It was in this region he built the greatest work of the ancient age, acknowledged around the world as the greatest work of anciet architecture ever, the Petra Cliff Temple. The Temple was built into a large mountaineous formation, and great tunnels that we even have not finished exploring today were built into it, linking up to a cave system filled with ruby and emrald beneath it. His ashes were scattered there after his passing.

But before he died he revolutionized agriculture, building the worlds first irrigation, and allowing rice production to fly, causing a population increase that would make the modern Empire the most populous in the world. He built villages along the Cauvery river to do that farming, and established the Empire's trading culture. But arguably the greatest of his achievements in expanding on the Palace of the Divine, and building the first House of Wisdom, the Pudukottai house of wisdom. Literature flourished thanks to this, writers from numerous Nagatar villages wrote, and were invited to the capital to write long epics about the deeds of former Rajas and Deva-Maharajas, but they always made sure to keep the true volumes away from fiction by separating the libraries in which they were kept.

But there was another Deva-Maharaja, a descendant of him, that would truly change things. The Empire's borders didnt change for a long time besides small things, until the year 639 BCE. The year a Deva-Maharaja (Divine Emperor) was born thats name we still do not know, or have any theories on. He changed the face of the Empire one last and final time before the Bronze Era came to a close. He incoperated five new kingdoms through warfare, first the Vijatva's, then the Surat's, then the Rajkava's, and finally the Krishiyaru. Each war was brutal, and the Empire weakened each time it conquered a Raja, but it stuck to it's principal of Responsive Rule, and had an advantage that wasn't realized by each Kingdom he came at until it was too late. The grand advantage he had?

He used the technology bronze, which the rest of the region had still not developed, creating bronze chestplates, spears, and shields for all soldiers. Metal weapons were no longer a technology for the wealthy soldeirs, but for all. With this he managed to conquer Kingdom after Kingdom. Some Raja's even submitting before he even started the

attacks on them. As his prediscessors did, he allowed the conquered Kings to govern their own territories as before, but answering to him. With that the Empire grew larger, without causing massive governmental destruction and reconstruction in the regions, this is a system that would come to be called responsive rule.

It was around this same time that the people of Kian Khe, the Kian, were beginning to develop from small jungle village tribes, to civilizations with Kings, after traders from the Empire came to Kian Khe, commencing cultural diffusion, though nearly nothing came to the Nagatar side, the Kians became a great civilization, three hundred yeards later, building the Angkor Wat. But initially the Kians were fractured, the blue shown below is a representation of the 19 Kingdoms of Kian Khe. The Kianic culture, though initially very tied to Nagatar culture, eventially diverged and took an entirely new path, becoming what is today century by century, uniting the Kingdoms in 12 CE. But we are still in the 6th Century BCE in our histories, and the way the people of Kian Khe devloped is tied to The Divine Empire, with many events share significance for both of the two nations. You see, Merchants brought chili from Kian Khe, changing Nagatar cuisine forever.

The next few centuries through the end of the Bronze Era Period were dull from a war standpoint, with little progress being made in the way of expansion. Rapidly the treasures filled, and wars ceased. Though that nearly destroyed the warrior caste, it ushered in an age of art, literature, and sculpting. It was also during this period when the trading culture of the region became cemented, creating the elite Nukottai Chettiar Trading class, and as their wealth grew, the began to occupy most government positions, eventually, marrying into the Emperor's family, and when this happened, as one of the most unfortunate events in Nagatar history, after giving birth to three sons, the Chettiar Maharani's Husband, the Divine Emperor, fell ill, and died, leaving her on the throne, Meena Thiagarajan, the start of Thiagarajan rule in the Empire.

The Thiagarajan Raj (Rule) ushered in many changes, legally establishing the caste system that had existed since the 9000 BCE, and splitting the Chettiars into the Merchants, and the Governance. Thiagarajan Rule also established the first Imperial Trading Port on the Pavala Amaiti Lake, allowing for Sea Trade between various Raja's, growing the wealth of the Empire even more as they charged a tax (of only 1.12%) on ever transaction between nations at the port, which unfortunatly lies in ruins today. The port was an extremely wealthy town and became a legend across the region, many Raja's and Maharaja's trying to imitate the port would make their own, but there were now monuments, and great ships flowing through the Nagatar port, and though they did manage to steal some business, the Great Nagatar Port was the grandest, and most profitable, in the region. The port, as previously stated, lies in ruins again today, but the monuments and it's wealth have not been forgotten.

The Classical & Renaissance Histories / Classical & Renaissance Era
This was purely an era of expansion, a long period of peace ensued, though armies kept the eastern edge of the Empire safe from the horse riding warrior people called the Moghuls, the Empire was just building culture during that time, not only that, but growing, there were no significant Maharajas in the way of expansion so the Empire, for the first time, simply sent settlers to go forth, new Raja's of regions being established to govern them, and a culture spreading across the region. Slowly, the Empire grew, until it was a size such that no one could believe. Then, in the year 1667 CE a Momosian explorer by the name of Muslipher Venezuebis came accross the southern part of the Empire, he had come from Momosia, a country, though not existing today, was ailing. The King and Queen of Momosia had funded his voyage to this foreign shore in hopes of finding something of value, but instead, Muslipher found the continent of Nilam, and the Divine Empire.

It was just about this time when relationships between the small then-broken Sarkish Empire & Our Own Divine Empire began. Initially relationships were hostile, as Sarkis was under Kampfen "influence" at that time, paying tribute to the Kaiser. The Sarkish people have a unique culture of what might be referred to as Roman. But things were getting worse with Momosia. Significantly worse.

Almost instantly, the Momosian Royalty set up colonies there, overruning the Nagarathars in the region by using superior weapons that no Nagatar had seen before - Guns. Soon enough, they had totally displaced the natives and set up New Momosian Commonwealth. The Empire fought fiercely, and prayed to the gods to remove these foriegn invaders, but they wouldn't respond. Due to this the Emperor at the time started a large Westernization of the army, creating quite an army, one to be envied. But the Momosians still won out, and when the Momosian homeland collapsed, falling to Civil war the colony fell into civil war as well, the communist rebels winning out, and forming the Community of the Communist Commonwealth in 1823. They would stay on the southern border for a great long time, until the Reconquista of Nagatar lands began after a fierce increase in nationalism.

The Modern Era / The Era of the Reconquista

Once this point was reached, the Empire had been resisting Westernization for a long time now, and national pride is at a height around 250 years since the Momosian arrival. The beginning of the 19th Century has dawned, and the Nagarathar army has undergone a massive modernization, showing it's power off by utterly crushing the then Kampfen Colony of Marrabuk in war over a region that would become Opstan. The Nagatar people were demanding that they free the southern lands from the scourge of the Commonwealth, so the Nagatar Emperor, RG Cauveru, a mere boy of only 14, gathered up those opposed to Commonwealth, and led a massive crusade against the CCC.

But the young Emperor didn't do it on his own. He spoke with the leader of Hajearim in the great city of Sarasha, speaking with him about a Capitalist Military Alliance, the leader of Hajearim was intrigued, accepting the offer. Soon enough the CMA was 11 strong, and with Community of the Communist Commonwealth having no allies at the time, was easily outnumbered when the Emperor suggested an invasion of them to the CMA committee, which was accepted easily on the grounds of driving away communism. The Emperor's plan was falling into place. The preparations were quickly made, and soon the Emperor has access to a much larger military force.

The first days of the war were brutal. The better equip Army of the CCC was destroying many battalions, but the people fought on, gaining ground inch by inch. The CCC was the first to mobilize a navy on the ocean, immediatly taking the advantage at sea. The crafty, young Nagatar Emperor had an idea. He mobilized his entire Navy in Pavala Amaiti, an area for mobilization that the CCC leader at the time, Gorbachev, couldn't even imagine. The Nagatars launched a huge operation. It would be called Operation CatLanded. They would sneak soldiers on to the unprotected shores of Pavalai Amaiti that the CCC controlled, and hide them behind their lines. Then, they would send a whole half-million well-equip soldiers to engage the CCC armies off the shores of Pavala Amaiti on warships.

It worked, trapping the major CCC Army and forcing them to surrender. The decisive victory resulted in the total surrender of the Communion of the Communist Commonwealth to the Nagatar Armies and Commander, Divine Emperor RG Cauvery, at the age of 17. The Empire absorbed the territory, but as that happened the CMA slowly faded away, and was eventually disbanded in everything but name. But the Community of the Communist Commonwealth was now a Nagatar colony, and that was a good thing for the young Emperor.

Then, a mere ten years later he decided he would conquer the then Republic of Kian Khe, the predecessor to the now Kian khe to our south. To do this he sided with the Communists and Socialists he worked against in the conquest of the CCC. Cauvery was a crafty man, and made a pact with the CCC to give their land back, which he never kept, in order to secure their help against The RKK after using the warmongering nature of Kian Khe as a Casus Belli. Kind of ironic considering he was a warmonger himself. Cauvery was a relatively dishonest man. Even we will admit, that though he expanded the Divine Empire as far as he did he wasn't exactly the best at keeping promises to other nations, rather opting to invade them. Though it is said that he was a very honorable man when diplomacy with countries he had a secret agenda with was not involved.

He also initiated and completed the greatest Nagatar publics works project ever during his sixty year reign - Sweet Citrus & Golden Sun Islands, along with drastically increasing Nagatar lifespan and Human Development Index during his reign.

The conquest of Kian was a resounding success with no real resistance put up against them by the international community. Though it would not go down like the CMA conquest of the CCC went, rather, the Emperor was forced to partition it with The Communist Commonwealth, and the 12th Marxist Union. The province was named Northern Kian, and a King was instated who was a prominent popular figure in the region prior to the conquest. His name was changed to Thiruvan Akbar from Pham Huynh, a Kianese of an ⅛ Nagaratar heritage. He died a quarter century later to a Kianese re-invasion of the region during the Great Patriotic War. A war that shook the world. This is known as the First Great War to the rest of the world.

The Great Patriotic War (First Great War) was an event that started because of a failure of diplomacy. When the Eastern Union (the now mostly defunct alliance that was pupated my Marrabuk) approached the Empire, demanding the territory of the Community of the Communist Commonwealth returned, the Emperor, full of his grandeur, refused, saying that it would be "an insult to all Nagatars". The situation nearly subsided when he experienced cardiac arrest during the diplomatic summit of negotiation he was attending in Fraxhemark with the leaders of Fraxhemark and Marrabuk to negotiate a way to stop the war. But when the Emperor, in a coma, was returned to the Empire, and the new Empress (Divine Empress Radha Thiagarajan, RIP) coronated, still refusing an ultimatum set down by the Eastern Union. Then thus would be the start of a war that ended the lives of over 11 million Nagatar civilians, 8 million Nagatar soldiers, 1.1 million Kianese soldiers and civilians, and 32 million Eastern Union soldiers.

Initially, the war was on the side of they EU, as they pushed through the Northern Countryside. But the natives offered fierce resistance. Every citizen was equip with a firearm at the time, and even children were instructed to fire on "filthy foreigner soldiers". With villages for hundreds of miles fortified, and all the crop collected, and stored, it made the advance extremely hard for the EU. Despite that, the Eastern Union Army marched onwards, slaying everyone in it's path - genocide ensued. They killed every Nagatar man, woman, and child, and sold babies into slavery in Virgolia. These are the hideous war crimes of the EU. But as they advanced further, and further, the 58 million they had initially came with began to dwindle. Thousands falling daily. The Eastern Union though, refused to back down, and the Empire was falling to their great evil armies. The Divine Empress begged mercy, but the EU would give none.

Then, right when all hope seemed lost, the EU began to fall apart. Members that were crucial to the war effort against the Empire left, seeing the righteousness of the Divine Empire's cause. Among these were Shavara, Algerstonia, and The Kampf Empire. Though the EU's armies still far outnumbered and outgunned those of the Empire, the Empire fought a brutal downhill battle on. But there was a twist of fate still coming for the the opposing armies. A horrible EU miscalculation caused by the Empire interfering with their networks resulted in the splitting up of their main force into eight pieces. Before they could realize that the order was forged by the Empire, the Imperial Divisions ambushed them in The Battles of Sathu, Inducherry, Kadnyajrati, and five unnamed others. This maneuver destroyed the Eastern Union's army in the Empire, and the Imperial Army made short work of the remaining enemies.

Soon enough, not a single troop of the Eastern Union remained in the Empire, and the Empire began to march on Marrabuk, island hopping until troops landed on the Marrabukan beaches, setting up fortifications, and waiting for reinforcements. They pushed inwards. On their way to the Marrabukan capital, winning battle after battle, Algerstonian divisions joined them from the east. Each would march on opposite sides of the nation to the Marrabukan capital. Soon enough, it had fallen, captured by the Nagathars, with the Algerstonians arriving, and garrisoning the city soon after. They then approached the Admiral-General leader of Marrabuk - Mat Hardy, forcing him to sign an uncomfortable peace with the Empire, giving up one port to the Empire, and one to Algerstonia in their territory. They took each a quarter of the Marrabukan treasury, and went on their separate ways, leaving Marrabuk mostly intact. Thus ended the Great Patriotic War.

Then a mere 14 years of peace ensued before the next war the Empire experienced. The War of Betrayal. It started out with a Kilkiran attack on the Golden Sun & Sweet Citrus islands, trying to dominate the Katavulin ocean. His forces managed to land, but with the forces of the Imperial Army, were stalemated on the islands. The Empress was certain that the CCC, an ally then, would betray her as she had received word from spies in New Moscow. Then, the Communist Commonwealth did betray her, but she was ready. The minute the orders for the CCC troops were given to betray their Nagathar allies in the trenches, the Imperial Soldiers attempted to massacre them first, but what broke out was a deadly battle in every trench. The Communist Commonwealth almost seized back their homeland when the Empire managed to just back them down. Pushing Kilkire out, and then CCC, they suddenly disappeared. No one was quite sure where the rest of the world had disappeared off to.

The Grand Return / The Era of the Return

The Empire returned to the plane of reality the other nations of the world remained in 17 years after they disappeared in that plane, but in our plane, 221 years had passed. The Empire, at first did not know that they had come back into union with the outside world, but as information trickled in from the territories in the North, and south, it occurred to them, that the idea that the outside world had ever existed, was true. Immediately, in fear, troops were deployed to the borders of the Empire. The internet was banned to prevent an uprising, then video games. The Emperor, WG Krishna, was committed to preventing outside influences, so made immigration of foreigners extremely hard. The Empire gained back it's islands from Kilkire, and territories from Kian in certain areas - even expanding on them.

But the stability of the two centuries of isolation would not stay. War broke out after several months. A civil war. An insurgency lead by Imperial Minister Ravi Venkata Varma in order to establish a fascist democracy. It would not last, the insurgency losing the war in a month and a half, due primarily to outside aid.
