The Bridge

The creature was most definitely dead, and didn't seem to have anything valuable on it. But the men in the bridge could note an oddity;

The room wasn't built for 1G.

It had no definitive floor, but instead many grooves and such that could be used to propel someone, or something. And there was no real evidence of oxygen ever being present inside the vessel. Instead, the walls were lined with some synthetic compound, it's purpose unknown. The ship just seemed to be getting weirder and weirder as they explored...

The Shrine.

As the man accessed the console, it slightly lit up, showing a yellow flashing ring with some sort of glyph inside it, both of which spun around each other in opposite directions. He had activated something it seems, however it wasn't known what exactly.

The Reactor.

From his view, he could see that there were hatches just like the one he came through at regular intervals all around the cavernous room. As the hopper approached the console on the catwalk, it lit up, showing a bunch of strange glyphs which blinked with two buttons underneath, one green and one red. The glyphs were completely foreign.

The Hive.

As the man approached one of the 'eggs', particularly an untouched one, the light passed through it primarily unhindered. However, it clearly painted what was inside, some octopus-like object buried inside the frozen liquid. It didn't move around, but from what he could tell, it was perfectly preserved; Intact, and possibly still alive. Hell, all the closed pods could have them, but it was hard to tell given the sheer size and the darkness of the room.

The Bridge.

As they looked around, one the consoles lit up, showing some glyphs that flashed in yellow. Underneath it had an orange symbol; A weird circle with 3 lines that curved from the circumference to the center. Unbeknownst to them, it was referring to the reactor's hatches. And unknown to them, what had just started was potentially very dangerous...

The Derelict, 'Ekatyrecta' | 2225 CE |

The Bridge

Whatever these creatures once were, they definitely were not human, and definitely not from Sol or Alpha Centauri. Their corpses left an unmistakable, eerie, disposition in the air, and the twisting, turning, shape of their metal sarcophagus was unsettling to say the least. The Captain at this point knew whatever he got himself into was way over his head, and the crew’s best bet was to get the hell out of this coffin. But first, he wanted to explore the ship, while it was also derelict, the tech on this ship seemed very advanced, it was possible they could find something valuable. Though he found nothing on the creatures themselves, he wanted something to take back to the ship.

The Shrine

Surprised that this hunk of metal scrap even still had power, the man was intrigued to find that the console lit up, this likely would be worth a lot if this tech could be salvaged, or even the glyphs being deciphered. He tried to use the comms to reach the Captain. Sending a brief message over the radio waves. “Captain, it seems there’s still power on this ship. And there’s a room with all these consoles, one just lit up. Should we salvage this?” He wasn’t sure if comms even worked here, but he would try to reach the Captain. Nonetheless, he waited for further orders before preceding.

The Reactor

This hopper also found similar glyphs like the ones the man in the shrine found, this was definitely in a foreign language. Unlike the other man, he elected to search the room himself first before reporting into the Captain, wanting to get a look first. He noticed the two buttons on the console, but didn’t press any just yet. He looked around for any other things he might’ve accidentally activated, and any clues to the function of the bottoms or just the purpose of this room.

The Hive

Finding creatures inside of the eggs, the man couldn’t believe his eyes to say the least. Regardless, he investigated further, though, admittedly, it was almost pitch black in the room, his flashlights not helping much in this huge vacuum.

Back on the Bridge

Pulling his mind out of deep thought, the consoles lit up with strange glyphs popping up on the screens of the strange devices. The ship definitely still had power, though not much since this ship had likely been derelict for many years, if not hundreds, or thousands possibly. He realized they would probably make a good pay if they brought this ship into the Terran authorities, and the Terran military probably would be itching to get their hands on it too if this ship held even more sinister secrets, however, the Captain himself still had no idea what was in store.

VAPOR 8762B1, Starzone 'Nocturn'. Her Imperial Majesty's Second Warfleet.

The dark green environment of the Vapor Sea Nebula was interrupted with a 1.8km long wedge shaped object that seemingly cut through space. It was followed by a fleet of similarly designed smaller vessels. As VAPOR 8762B1's starlight washed over the fleet, it was apparent that it was a fleet of Leipidan warships, lead by the HIMNS Irresistable. The Irresistable's large CEPC batteries began to slowly pivot on their equally colossal barbettes. A blue-white cloud of what seemed to just be vapors began to flow out of the barrels of the CEPCs. That was, before their tips erupted in a bright blinding red light, their beams streaking across the expanse of space towards some target.

Said target presented itself rather readily, an Imperator-pattern Fast Battleship. Such vessels were rather unknown, and particularly deadly to the less advanced warships. That became apparent when a purple flash cut one of the smaller Victory-pattern Cruisers clean in half, the strange beam simply removing the pieces of the vessel it came in contact with. The Victory-Pattern disappeared within a flash of light as the rest of the fleet began to open fire on the enemy fleet.

Kaiifet Nora Falk | Her Imperial Majesty's Naval Ship 'Irresistable', Tenacious-class Star Dreadnought.

I ran down the halls of the Irresistable which were washed in the deep red of the emergency lighting and filled with the loud wailing of alarms. I then ran through the door and into Turret B's power assembly. "Kaiifet Nora Falk reporting Ma'am!"

The Muheboiis, or Ship's Engineer, turned to me. "Kaiifet, go to Cannon 3's deck lug, we have an issue with the hydraulics." I nodded, before going up the ladder to get from the middle of the turret's foundation to the gun deck. It was a rather exhausting task as the foundation was extremely tall as it had to fit the entirety of the cannon's power assembly.

There was suddenly a large explosion towards the starboard aft of the ship, which knocked me off the ladder. My fall was stopped by one of the other sailors, who caught my arm before I could plummet down the Foundation. She pulled me up onto the Gun Deck, speaking in a rather loud and stern voice that was still somehow rather kind, "What happened to ``Always keep a firm grip on the rungs``." She was of course referencing the signs on each level that were meant to keep us from being stupid.

"Sorry ma'am, Kaiifet Falk." I gave a salute as another explosion rocked the ship.

"Mastiif Blom." She extended her hand, which caught me off guard. I reluctantly took it, just giving a small, courteous nod.

"I was told that Cannon 3's Deck Lug wasn't working." She nodded, guiding me over the Cannon 3, which seemed in disrepair. The socket where the cannon poked through into the vacuum had been sealed with an anti-vacuum foam. I simply just exhaled through my nose, "I can't fix that...."

Blom put her hand to her face, "That's what I told the Mudaiin. She insisted that we get someone to come fix it." I stared at the foam, before going towards the ladder and peered over.

"Cannon 3 is out permanently!" I yelled down at the Muheboiis. I sat up, my back against the wall of the turret and simply awaited a response.

My antennae perked up as I heard the Muheboiis yell up the ladder. "Understood! Relaying it to the Bridge!" I just looked around, with my antennae feeling the wall I was resting against. I let out a bit of a sigh as the Mastiif sat down next to me.

"Makes you somewhat regret joining up doesn't it?" she remarked. I just nodded a bit as she continued talking, "When I first joined, all this behemoth did was go around the Throne Worlds and look pretty. We didn't actually have to worry about dying on board. Now, it's just a matter of time before those t h i n g s pick us off."

I nodded at her emphasis on thing, referring to the enemy, which we didn't even know what they looked like. I opened my mouth to talk before an explosion somewhere on the ship knocked me into her. I sat up, my cheeks turning red slightly before the slipstream klaxon went off. "I-" There were a ton of explosion towards are aft before we were all thrown forward. I ended up slamming my head against the deck lug, my vision going black and my hearing vanishing...

VAPOR 8762B1, Starzone 'Nocturn'. Her Imperial Majesty's Second Warfleet.

One by one, the warships began to slipspace out, attempting to escape the growing danger as a new vessel appeared on the battlefield, a colossal warship. The closest designation for it would've been Star Dreadnought, however it outsized the largest Star Dreadnoughts that the Imperial Navy had at it's disposal. As the HIMNS Irresistable began her slipspace jump, an enemy Vapor-Pattern destroyer moved in, firing a salvo of plasma torpedoes into the Irresistable's dorsal surface. The Irresistable, while making it through the slipstream gateway, was crippled, and her reactor was forced to shut down. With the ship powerless, and her slipstream warped by the constant fire from the enemy, it was unknown where the Irresistable would end up....

EXNE 610A | HUM: 'Proxima Centauri' | HIMNS Irresistable

The only warning to the event was simply a massive storm of slipstream echoes. The sensors of the Martians could easily pick up the large wave of energy passing into the system's subspace. So much so that it could have warranted the suspension of slipstream travel temporarily if it weren't for the fact that it had suddenly shunted into a slipstream gateway over some Barren world.

What had gotten spat out was essentially a massive emission signature and several thousand objects, most of which measuring smaller than a few hundred square meters, but the largest being a 1,800m long wedge-shaped object, of which seemingly drifted in orbit of the barren world. Unknown to the Martians, it was the crippled HIMNS Irresistable, which was crippled upon the retreat from VAPOR 8762B1. The casualty count was high; Almost 20% of the crew was injured or killed by the slipstream jump's failure, and an additional 20% were killed during combat...

Kaiifet Nora Falk | Her Imperial Majesty's Naval Ship 'Irresistable', Tenacious-class Star Dreadnought.

I coughed harshly, rolling onto my left side as I brought one of my hands to my head. I could hear the loud emergency Klaxon of the Irresistable, the one you hear when there is a major failure aboard the ship. As I was qualifying for Damage Controlman, I felt obligated to go until I realized I was on a gurney in the infirmary. When my hand touched my head, I realized it was wrapped in a bandage, with some of it having a wet spongy feel. I brought my hand down, looking at it with fuzzy vision. It had some blue marks on it where it touched the bloodied bandage. I sat up, bringing that hand to my head again as I looked about, my vision barely returning to me.

I mumbled a bit, "What happened?" Though I wasn't expecting a response, just talking to myself. Though I heard that familiar voice from the Mastiif.

"We got attacked on the way out..." She spoke in a slightly pained voice, as she had gotten it worse than I had. I looked over, sliding off my gurney carefully and moving over to her bed.

"Uhm...Didn't see you there." Blom simply smiled a bit as I sat down.

"It's fine, you hit your head against the Deck Lug...Better than what I got. Took them a good minute to dig us out of the A turret, it's gone." I looked down at her legs from underneath the blanket. I hadn't realized that she was paralyzed from the waist down now, not until she mentioned it. "My legs are gone now. I can't use them. The damned ceiling caved in on top of me, crushed my spine and all that."

"Sorry to hear that..." I couldn't manage anything other than a sorry. While we had known each other for only a few minutes, I was growing rather attached. The same had happened with someone else before I joined the Imperial Navy. Except this one felt more genuine.

She spoke some more, "It felt like we dropped out of the slipstream a bit ago, been waiting for you to wake up."

Captain Koizumi Katsuo, of the third expeditionary fleet, watched in awe, as the sensors picked up something interesting for once. A shipmate began reporting to him, as the sensors beeped and whirred.

"SIR, SIR! SOMETHING'S COMING OUT OF AN FTL JUMP NEARBY! SOMETHING MASSIVE!"

The crew member fiddled with the instruments, seeming to panic, as the captain just walked over to the massive windows on the bridge, looking out upon the vast expanse of space. He had been in the fleet for about ten years now, and he still wasn't tired of this amazing view. To think that most people never get to see something like this, and here he was, looking at it everyday. It brought a smile to his face.

"I can see that, shipmate. Continue to observe the signs, if it's a hostile ship, we'll light it up as soon as it releases. We are nearby Bingdiyu now, if we need to pull off some funky maneuvers, we'll lead them into the ice there."

He gets on the PA system.

"Attention crew, report to battle stations immedi-"

And then it happened.

He looked up out the window, after seeing a flash of light. There it was... this massive conglomeration of objects, almost like an asteroid field had just launched itself through slipspace. He knew better, of course. This could be a Xeno ship. He continued on the PA, keeping his eye on the Xeno ship.

"Report to battlestations. MARINES, GET YOUR ASSES TO THE DEPLOYMENT DECK."

He stepped into the elevator, heading down to the deployment deck to brief his colonial marines. He had a feeling things were going to get exciting. He stepped out onto the deck, standing at parade rest as he waits for the men to form up. He stood before them, and took a breath.

"We've got what looks like a Xeno ship, they've FTL'd directly into our area of operations. Your orders are to mount up in the Cheyenne, and approach the Xeno ship. As you approach, you are free to engage as you see fit, but I do not want you starting a war."

He turns to the Sergeant in charge of the platoon.

"Is that understood, Kruschev?"

"Yes, sir. We'll make contact with the threat, and hold off from firing."

"Good, now go."

Twenty marines climb into the dropship, and the captain watches as they exit from the back bay, firing up their engines, as they head towards the ship.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Approaching Unknown Xeno Ship:

Sergeant Kruschev looked on in awe, as they circled around the ship. They kept their guns aimed at any possible exits, just in case these things wanted to get jumpy. He watched out of the window, as they closed in on it. They were two thousand meters out now... fifteenhundred... one thousand... five hundred... three hundred..

They slowed the engines, as they finally reached just above the conglomeration of ships. He began broadcasting, trying to see if he could pick up anything.

"Attention, Attention, this is Sergeant Vadim Kruschev, of the thirty first Martian Colonial Marines. You are entering Confederate airspace. You are being requested to identify yourselves and your species, or face military action."

He released his hand on the button, hoping they'd respond to something.
