Riley’s perspective

Riley lit a cigarette, as he gazed across the desert. The only light came from the moon and stars above, and the shine of the spotlights from the Italian held city, a mile in the distance. He looked over at Nyandoro, who was adjusting the sights on his SLR308, before noticing his stare.

”Oh, ya thinks me beautiful now ya?”

Riley smirked at that, waving his hand dismissively.

“Oh, if it were any a man, it definitely wouldn’t be kaffir. But your mother... well, perhaps the story would be different.”

He chuckled, before adjusting his troopie hat, folding the edge of it back up.

Nyandoro just shook his head, before mounting his horse. Riley followed suit, and their horses trotted along towards the city. Riley was at the head of the group, as they rode ahead of the spotlights, avoiding their illuminating glow.

He looked behind him, off to the distance, where he knew two hundred and fifty brave men were marching towards the city, only a half mile behind him. It was times like this that he was proud to serve in the infantry, especially the Mounted Infantry. It was funny, how they called it a dying breed.. perhaps they were right though, machines could cover the distance much quicker.. but could they do so as quietly?

The squad reached their position beside the town, seeming to blend in with the night, as they sat mounted in a blind spot for the spotlights the italians were relying on. Riley felt pride in himself, as he unslung his rifle. Today he would stop being a farm boy who joined the army.. and become a soldier man who fought in the war.

That brought a smile to his face, as he pulled back on the charging handle of his rifle. Behind him, Matthews was loading his Mercer-Lewis, scanning the area around them, as they waited for the rest of the troopies to arrive. And with a scream that would strike terror into God himself, they did so, as they ran towards the city, shouting and shooting up at the few Italians guarding the wall. Machine guns fire lit up the night, as the Italian forces sprung into action, nearly putting a bullet in Riley before he snapped back to reality, whipping the reigns of his horse as he charged into the fray alongside his squad mates.

He opened fire from atop his mount, sending a bullet right through the head of an Italian machine gunner.

He would take a moment to revel in his kill, but was prevented from doing so, as a group of Italian soldiers opened fire from behind a wall, which had been worn and destroyed over the course of what may have been centuries.

Matthews answered the attack with a burst of suppressing fire, as Riley and Nyandoro advanced on them, firing off rounds from their rifles, as they finally dismount their steeds.

One of the Italian pill boxes seemed to shatter, as the familiar crash of an artillery shell struck its top. He joined up with the other troopies, pushing into the tighter areas of the city, where they found most of the Italian troops holed up in a shelter, having been already taken out of the fight. They had been counting on this. General Mudzuri had mentioned that Italian supply lines weren’t efficient enough to refresh the soldiers with reinforcements quickly, which gave them the advantage. For once, Riley was proud to serve under a kaffir.

The troopies surrounded the barracks, while a few of them patrolled the town, searching for any stragglers. A commanding officer approached Riley.

“They expect us to provide quarter. Can you believe that?”

The officer chuckles, before looking Riley in the eye and giving him a simple order.

”Geen genade vir die goddelose nie.”

Riley understood, and his face sunk a bit, but he realized the point in it. They were sick anyway. It was only now that he was out of combat that the situation started to sink in.. his perception of it all, everything, began to meet reality, as he glanced around himself at what was best described as a skeleton of a city, with bodies strewn about the streets, victims of machine gun fire piled up on top of eachother, some of them still calling out for their mothers. He gritted his teeth, as the battle seemed to play over in his head.. in the moment.. he hadn’t realized all he had done. Stabbing a man through with his machete.. firing blindly towards a machine gunner in desperation as his horse was struck by the bullets. He looked over at his mount, which seemed to by ashamed of its pain as a field medic looked it over, assessing the damage. Riley couldn’t stop playing the battle over in his head, but he had one more thing he had to do.
The men were lining the prisoners up against the wall of the building, as a few troopies stepped up in a firing line. Riley had to look away as he joined them, pulling the trigger on unarmed greasers.. but at the end of the day, it was what had to be done. As Riley opened his eyes, the former prisoners lay at the base of the wall, with a red streak, splotched and scattered in some places, struck across the wall. He turned away, ashamed, as a feeling in his gut began to pull at him. He tried to shake it away, but it was only then, that he realized the warm blood traveling down his own face, from his head.
He reached up, touching his stinging ear, to find it completely torn off, in a jagged and rough manner. Part of it still hang to the side, as if the job weren’t finished. Riley felt the world spin, as the battle continued replaying in his mind, his ears now feeling deafened by the roar of the artillery, which had subsided hours ago. He didn’t even seem to notice as he collapsed to the ground.

I walked around, my fennec-esque ears twitching as I did. Like the other volunteer nurses I was in the stereotypical white gown and such, something popularized in military hospitals during the Great War. One of the doctors, a certified one from London, called me over and told me to watch a soldier that was injured in a nearby battle that finished. "Watch him, if anything bad happens, let me or the other doctors know." He hurriedly moved on to another soldier who was in a worse condition as I looked down at the injured soldier, whom unbeknownst to me was a young man named Riley. I began inspected the ear wound, making sure there wasn't an infection that had begun. Luckily, the medics already took care of that and had disinfected his wound both prior and after the work was done. I looked around at the others, my tail moving in an agitated way at the sight of all the injured, half of whom came from the Nile River and the other half coming from skirmished and smaller battles like Tazirbu. I somewhat felt sorry for the soldier, like the others here he was probably going to be somewhat handicapped.

Victory on the Mediterranean Sea

After struggles for the control of the sea between The Regia Marina and Le Royale Marine, both navies clashed with each other on another fight between the two most powerful and important navies of both sides on the Mediterranean.

It has been confirmed that the Battleship's Tourville, Provence and Lille engaged against the Battleship's Conte Di Cavour, Andrea Doria and Francesco Caracciolo 130km away of The Strait of Bonifacio in where a naval battle happened in which the navy engaged in an five hours battle during which both sides suffered casualties from all the heavy fire from both sides. However Le Royale Marine reigned supreme after struggles against the Regia Marina as they fought using ships of the same era mostly.

The naval engagement ended up with a French Victory, the first important victory after the Nordenian Defeat at Gibraltar, it seemed the war was being turned on to the favor of The Entente.

First person hmm?

I sat up in the hospital bed, still dazed and shaken up from the battle. I glanced at a small mirror in the room, seeing one of my ears being almost entirely amputated.. I reached up as if to touch it, but just ended up pulling my hand back down. I glanced around the med bay, seeing a nurse standing over him.

“I thought I was supposed to be invincible...”

He let out a weak chuckle, as he squinted to read the nurse’s name tag.

The battle was still fresh in his mind, and he still didn’t feel like he was in the present. He tried to put his troubled thoughts behind him, as he spoke to the nurse.

“Can you bring me some..”

He coughed a bit.

“Some water.”

British Imperialis wrote:Scandinavia | Alexander

Alexander walked home from the coffee shop with a small grin on his face. Even though things seemed bleak he always was happy around Alana. She kept him calm and collected during these rough points even when she didn’t know she was doing it.

Once he got home he sat down on the couch for a moment, turning on the radio and listening to an afternoon broadcast while reading a book, the rest of the day was quite uneventful to be honest, though he liked those days because lately they had been few and far between. As he readied himself for bed he sighed, thinking about Alana once more.

“I’ll win her over somehow...” he said to himself as he turned off the lamp and went to sleep....

The Next Morning

Alexander awoke to the sound of knocking at his door from downstairs. He groaned as he looked at the time, it was only 5:30 in the morning. He got himself up, rubbing his eyes for a minute as the knocking continued.

He noted the seemingly frantic and rushed nature of the knocks, unsure if something was the matter or not. He grabbed his robes and came downstairs to answer the door, speaking in a rather tired sounding voice.

“What do you want?” He asked, not realizing that it was Albin at his door. As soon as he realized who it was he profusely apologized.

“Albin! Very sorry I didn’t realize that it was you for a moment there.”

“No worries Alexander, can I come in for a moment?”

“Sure.”

Albin walked in, hanging his coat on the coat rack by the door and sitting down in a leather chair facing the fireplace. Alexander grabbed a match and started the fireplace before sitting down and looking over to Albin, yawning for a second before speaking.

“So? What brings you here at this hour?”

“Well due to some internal factors we have a new issue. We found out late last night from an unknown source some rather interesting information... apparently some of the more radical members of the National Socialist Party were planning a coup.”

Alexander wasn’t surprised, the National Socialists as a whole were a rather rowdy bunch in parliament, it would only be a matter of time before at least a few of them would try something against the government.

“Well I can’t say I’m surprised. How large was it?”

“Not very large, only about five or six people involved in the plan. The good news is that we caught it early.”

“Indeed, though I wouldn’t be too sure. There could be a few more members just in hiding.”

“Indeed so.... either way this cannot reach the press.”

“Agreed... if they heard about it they’d have a field day with the damn thing.”

“Exactly.”

The two were silent for a moment, the crackling of the fire being the only noise in the room as they thought for a moment. Alexander rubbed his eyes again and sighed.

“Should we declare a government shutdown for the time being?”

“No, that would only encourage the Nazis to attack.”

“Well we know they will attack either way Albin... it’s no longer a matter of if but of when.”

Albin sighed, he didn’t want to accept that Scandinavia would be dragged into this pointless conflict. Even so he knew that if they were they’d have to give it their all.

Albin stood up and brushed off his uniform, giving a rather weak smile to Alexander.

“Well I won’t keep you. I shall see you at work in a few hours.”

Alexander stopped him.

“Nonsense, stay for some breakfast! No sense in leaving with this cold weather.”

“Oh? Well alright then.” Albin said as he sat back down. Alexander went into the kitchen and looked through the cabinets, finding eggs, bread, butter, and some some jams. He smiled as he began to make the breakfast for the two, coming back out with two plates.

Albin looked over his and smirked.

“You seem to have a gift.” He said, noting how weird it was that Alexander didn’t hire any servant staff noting how much money he has. Alexander meanwhile didn’t find it weird at all, his parents were poor factory workers in Saint Petersburg, he was just lucky to be a smart student and a strong member in the military.

Alexander only snickered at Albin’s statement for a moment before eating the food on his plate.

Once the two finished and Alexander got on his work clothes the two headed out and to the Parliament House, arriving no later than half an hour after starting their walk. While it was cold, the two didn’t really mind it, talking to one another on the way there.

Once arriving Albin bid him good day and headed to his office to begin working. Meanwhile Alexander went to his own.

“Today should be interesting...” he said to himself in a low mumble, thinking about the secret coup attempt.

“Very interesting indeed...”

Scandinavia | An Official’s Affair

Alana looked around her office for a moment, the flag of Scandinavia hanging down from one wall while on the other sat shelves of books and folders filled with notes and plans for her work in Internal Affairs. Her blue eyes then began to focus on the radio sitting on her desk, turning it on to hear that the Nazis had begun their advances into Western Europe, she sighed. Alexander was right, it was only a matter of time now.

She heard a knock at the door, getting up to answer it, her face seeming stressed to no end. At the door stood Alexander, his usual more stern expression ever present on his face. Alana sighed.

“What is it Alexander.”

“There was a coup attempt...”

Alana stopped, her eyes went wide as he spoke.

“A what?”

“You heard me. A coup attempt by a few national socialist party members.”

“Dear god when will this end...” she said to herself, sitting back down at her desk. Her demeanor was near opposite to what it was the day before, her happiness going down slowly as news came in about the Nazis plans and their current actions. She was stressed to no end tracking everything that was happening.

Alexander simply sighed, sitting down in the chair in front of her and giving her a small smirk.

“You seem stressed.”

“Indeed, perceptive.” She said with a sarcastic tone as she continued listening to the radio. Alexander looked at it and moved his hand to it, turning it down and looking at Alana.

“So this is where you come to relieve your inner stress? Though in the end you seem to only create more.”

Alana stopped for a moment, while she was about to respond to him turning down her radio she simply stopped as he spoke, he was right. She gulped and nodded.

“Um... I really have no way to answer that Alex.” She said to him, her tone growing quiet and timid as he looked at her.

“Alana you cant do this to yourself.” He said, while normally he would’ve been the more stressed one of the two, today he felt much more relaxed, probably because Alana was so worked up though.

“I’m not doing anything to myself Alex.” She said to him, her smile causing him to blush a little but Alana was too worked up to truly notice.

All the sudden the call came in, the Germans had attacked the southern coasts of Norway early that morning.

Alana sighed as she heard the report, as did Alexander.

“Well.. lets just hope we can survive this.” She said, Alexander gave her a confident smile.

“We will... we will.”
