I think there's a lot of assumption that the legislature is full of corrupt losers who only care about themselves. Which I'd just like to say, while the legislative had significantly messed up with the Senate reduction at least in my opinion they messed up- is totally untrue. To be fair the accused did impersonate Xernon and you already know how bad we simp for Xernon in this region.

But regardless, it's something I already discussed with Senators in the past that this term we need to clamp down on inactivity and start recalling more, to which there was a total agreement. Thankfully we have had a relatively active term thus far.

Now take a meme post about the last Senate:

Brototh - to basically everyone - "stop being bad"
Ashlawn - succeeds Brototh as Chair "the future is now, old man!"
Cydoni - MIA
Dendrobium - "ok sure thaecia is cool but lets be the pm of lisseum"
Emazia - radical noises
Marvinville - resignation noises
Rayekka - silent but respected noiselessnoises
World Trade - roasting MPs
Hulldom - [REDACTED] noises

If voters should be able to recall elected officials at any time, for any reason, what's the need for regular elections at all? Seems to me we could just let the current congress keep going until they make one unpopular decision (not one wrong decision, mind you, one unpopular one).

Also really confused why nobody's even remotely considering recalls for the executive. Seems to me either elections are enough for both branches or they're not

I mean I support that, but that's controversial because people prefer impeachment and want someone to commit a crime.

Recalls ensure that there is a meaningful check on the Legislative branch - the Populous, as opposed to trusting the Legislature to check itself. We don't let the executive check itself, so why should we let the legislature check itself?

I mean... the executive practically does check itself. Assuming the executive doesn't commit a crime, the only thing the legislature can do is call people in for hearings and yell at them for awhile. And considering impeachment is actually a check on the executive by the legislative AND judicial branches, the argument that "the legislature already has a check on the executive" is disingenuous.

Your idea of recalls clearly wouldn't be used in the event someone committed a crime: we have the existing recall procedures and impeachment for that, not to mention an actual trial. Your recall proposal would be used to test an official's popularity. Elections test an official's popularity, and do so more effectively than a recall referendum for a single member.

I shall sacrifice myself on the altar of double posting to bring the people this important message...

"Today, some people live in the past, looking into the history books to find an answer to the questions we have struggled with as a species. Others stare to the future, hoping that a better tomorrow will make it so. Back and forth their battle rages, petty squabbles which kill men and nations alike.

Yet only those who choose to fight the true battle in the present, the fight which is unspoken, the Unsung War, can ever truly win this twisted game. Those who simply create weapons of war, believing them to be the solution to all their problems, should prepare to seek absolution by those who truly see the path to victory..."
