"Eh-ya!
Everybody run run run
Eh-ya!
Everybody scatter scatter
Eh-ya!
Some people lost some bread
Eh-ya!
Someone nearly die
Eh-ya!
Someone just die
Eh-ya!
Police they come, army they come
Eh-ya!
Confusion everywhere
Eh-ya!
Seven minutes later
All don cool down, brother
Police don go away
Army don disappear
Them leave sorrow, tears and blood
Them regular trademark

La la la la

My people self they fear too much
We fear for the thing we no see
We fear for the air around us
We fear to fight for freedom
We fear to fight for liberty
We fear to fight for justice
We fear to fight for happiness
We always get reason to fear:
We no wan die
We no wan wound
We no wan quench
We no wan go
I get one child
Mama dey for house
Papa dey for house
I wan build house
I don build house
I no want quench
I want enjoy
I no wan go
Ah!
So policeman go slap your face
You no go talk
Army man go whip your yansh
You go they look like donkey
Rhodesia they do them own
Our leaders they yab for nothing
South Africa they do them own

Them leave sorrow, tears and blood
Them regular trademark
Them regular trademark
Them regular trademark
Them regular trademark
Them regular trademark
Regular trademark
Them regular trademark
That is why;

Eh-ya!
Everybody run run run
Eh-ya!
Everybody scatter scatter
Eh-ya!
Some people lost some bread
Eh-ya!
Someone nearly die
Eh-ya!
Someone just die
Eh-ya!
Police they come, army they come
Eh-ya!
Confusion everywhere

Ah, na so
Time go they go
Time no wait for nobody
Like that: choo, choo, choo, ah
But police go they come, army go they come
With confusion
In style like this"

That's a good playlist.

Nigerian afrobeat isn't something we have a lot of on our juke-box. I look forward to hearing more.

Thanks! I have pretty esoteric tastes in music lol.

As do I. There's a band I currently am enjoying a lot of, Dengue Fever, which fuses Ethiopian jazz with 1960s-70s Cambodian pop music and other styles.

Hold on a sec...

*Nudges the juke-box gently and grins*

It's an antique so you have to be careful with it.

Oh damn! You're talking my language now! I'm pretty sure the song this one samples is in my playlist (it's not strictly Afro Beat) Check out the Ethiopiques.

I'm going to go through your Spotify playlist and add a lot of stuff to the Bar's YouTube playlist so everyone can enjoy them. It's also my go-to music when I'm not listening to stuff from my personal collection.

Give it a listen when you have some free time. It's a very eclectic collection of stuff from players who have made suggestions and requests.

I like to set it to 'shuffle' and just skip anything I don't want to hear at the moment.

This is album is a jam, dude, thanks for this. Dengue Fever, specifically.

It's infectiously catchy and exotic, especially coming from a band out of Los Angeles. I've only seen them play live once, years ago.

Aha, yes! I can totally see the influence of this music on Dengue Fever.

This is hot. It make me want to go on a road trip through the desert and have this blasting on the car stereo.

My limerick:
Once there was an old queen,
Who got very lean,
The poor old queen,
Ate pie to no avail,
But cried,
And then the doctors realised,
She was a Kardashian!

I went back to the Fela Kuti on Northwest south williamsland's playlist.

You guys gotta check this out. The topic is no less relevant today as it was back in 1976 when it was written. Plus it's just some groovy afro-jazz.

In his defense, I've heard him sing before and he's pretty good. Kind of a cross between Phil Harris and Irving Lahrheim.

Bert Lahr - If I Were King of the Forest

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sql5KsLQens

"If I were King of the Forest
Not queen, not duke, not prince
My regal robes of the forest
Would be satin, not cotton, not chintz

I'd command each thing, be it fish or fowl
With a ruff and a ruff and a royal growl - woof
As I'd click my heel, all the trees would kneel!
And the mountains bow and the bulls kowtow!
And the sparrow would take wing
If I, if I, were King!

Each rabbit would show respect to me
The chipmunks genuflect to me
Though my tail would lash, I would show compash
For every underling!
If I, If I, were King!
Just King!

Each rabbit would show respect to him
The chipmunks genuflect to him

And his wife would be queen of the mane

And I'll be monarch
Of all I survey

Monarch
Of all I survey

Mo--na-a-a--a-arch
Ah, shucks

Monarch
Of all I survey!

Your Majesty, If you were King, you wouldn't be afraid of anything?

Not nobody, not nohow!

Not even a rhinocerous?

Imposserous!

How about a hippopotamus?

Why, I'd trash him from top to bottomamus!

Supposin' you met an elephant?

I'd wrap him up in cellophant!

What if it were a brontosaurus?

I'd show him who was King of the Forest!

How?

How?
Courage! What makes a King out of a slave?
Courage! What makes the flag on the mast to wave?
Courage! What makes the elephant charge his tusk, in the misty mist or the dusky dusk?
What makes the muskrat guard his musk?
Courage! What makes the sphinx the seventh wonder?
Courage! What makes the dawn come up like thunder?
Courage! What makes the Hottentot so hot? What puts the "ape" in apricot?
What have they got that I ain't got?"
