Corregidor, the last rampart of democracy in asia on the World War II, surrendered to the Japanese on May 6, 1942. Out of all Asian subject peoples, the Filipinos offered the toughest fight to the Japanese. By their heroic stand at Bataan and Corregidor, they upset Tokyo's war timetable, thereby saving Australia, which was able to have more time for military preparation.

Quick little tidbit of fact here, (don't want to discredit your country):
Japan never had any proper ambition of invading Australia, due to how big and sparsely populated it is, not to mention the drop spiders and kangaroo marines.

The Australians and Americans never won. The drop spiders and kangaroo marines took all the key positions with 0 casualties, and took 0 credit for themselves.
