The Designated Survivor Act has passed the House and will now move to the Senate for further action!
We will now debate the Amendments to L.R. 018, which has previously passed the Senate. Andusre has permission to participate in this debate. Please post your thoughts on this bill and propose amendments if you wish.
I think this is good. Didn't see any problems and it does improve upon the order of Thaecia. I support.
I, too, think this bill is good. It brushes up some parts of the original bill. It also brings significant improvements to the Order of Thaecia, as Nova Anglicum said.
We will now begin voting on the Amendments to L.R. 018.
My vote is Aye
The Amendments to L.R. 018 has passed and will now go to the PM!
We will now begin debating the Legislative Leader Election Constitutional Amendment. Please express your thoughts on this constitutional amendment.
Mr Speaker, at first glance MPs might think "omg really? thats a stupid section". Then MPs might think "hm, well, at least it has a failsafe for no chamber leader".
But let's take a think about this, Mr Speaker. If the Honourable MPs would be so inclined to look at Article II Section III of the Constitution of this great region.
In the event in which no candidates are tied for first place, but no candidate has received more than 50% of the votes, a run-off will be held between the candidate who received the most votes and any candidates who received the second-most votes. In an event of a tie for first place between two or more candidates, a runoff will be held between all candidates that are tied, and the Speaker/Chairperson will be chosen by a plurality of votes. In the event in which no candidate has received a plurality of the votes in the runoff, the Electoral Commission shall organize another runoff to elect the Speaker/Chairperson from among the tied candidates. This procedure will be repeated until one candidate has received a plurality of the votes.
Dissolving the entire chamber, Mr Speaker, is absolutely not the way to go. By dissolving the chamber you are throwing away the votes of around fifty Thaecian voters, causing a massive weeks or even two weeks waste of time, as we have observed with this Senate snap election - which is a quarter of the entire term. When we could simply just hold the vote again in a better system and instead of losing a quarter of the term, lose at worst, three days.
Additionally, Mr Speaker, this current system we have shows a complete lack of trust and faith in the MPs and Senators. These people were elected on a mandate by our people to get their job done. If we assume they have no sense of communication or negotiation, we by extension show a complete lack of trust and faith in our people, and thereby our entire system.
I sincerely hope, Mr Speaker, that MPs can make the right choice voting FOR this Amendment.
