Great Jenovah wrote:

As Jenovah was entering a new year, the political landscape of the nation would forever be changed as the situation with Lydennekal deteriorated. Madame Celukwazi has been gaining momentum, brainwashing her supporters into blindly supporting her decisions regardless of the backlash or consequences that said decisions may hold for the wellbeing of their nation. A self-declared leader in this so-called democratic republic, the Madame President was nothing short of a military dictator propped up by false hopes who had assumed absolute power with the lousy promise that the power she held would be handed down when the country was ready for a free election without their parent country. Lydennekal, the Belport Free State, Lepakol, Mpumaweto, Laagedert and Hemköping are the names of the six states which agreed split off from the union to form an “autonomous zone” where they would govern themselves with minimal intervention from the Federal Government and National Committee. It was a nation within a nation, bound together only by history and the hardships which they both faced. An unnamed treaty was signed between both parties which installed a ceasefire after tensions and border skirmishes occured and granted the Federal Government control over the zone’s foreign affairs for a period of three years and six months, delaying the inevitable convergence between the two. In five months, a nationwide election would be held to decide the next person to represent the entire nation for the next six years. Madame Celukwazi, the leader of the opposition party, has conducted an invasion of Tor Dutnua Thennts with the remainder of the military. It’s unknown what her motivations are.

———————————————————————

A spinner zoomed past the skyscraper canals in the metropolis, passing the hypnotic, LED advertisements plastering the exterior walls of buildings. Across, the windows were blown out in the abandoned warehouse and homeless camps were littered inside; the flickering fires inside the makeshift campfires looked like the dancing stars in the limitless cosmos above. Strallé was a bustling city like no other in the world, diverse with dozens of cultures meeting and interacting at once like a melting pot; the streets were filled with saffron-robed monks strolling down the sidewalks and morning commuters riding on makeshift rickshaws shaded by a tarp lazily draping over the carriage, hurrying through the busy intersections and congested roads to get to work. Hand-painted graffiti added much-needed liveliness to the dull, brick walls of the narrow streets as children ran in small clusters, laughing and shoving each other with stale pita bread in their dirty hands. Overhead, the Schaak-Lagerkvist Tower was merely a few kilometers from Strallé, but it loomed over the rest of the skyline by hundreds of meters like an awe-inspiring mountain in the distance. As the spinner ascended, it gradually drew closer to the massive obelisk in the distance. Madame Celukwazi looked out of the window, which was covered in little droplets of rain that were swept off the spinner because of the intense wind outside which beat relentlessly against the body of the vehicle. It was uncommon for spinners to fly in the colonies where Celukwazi had lived, as the price of owning a personal, flying vehicle was too much to be affordable by most of the population. The Madame fished through the pockets in her coat, finding a small card which read “LAGERKVIST” in thick bold with the time “19:00” printed underneath the letters.

Celukwazi quickly glanced at her wristwatch, patiently standing outside of a set of enormous, metal doors in a dim lobby with a bench and a small pool of water on the other end which reflected the shimmering and ripples across the walls and ceiling. It read 19:00; the time which was on her card. Madame Celukwazi impatiently beelined towards the doors, pushing through the elongated handles and forcing it open, only to freeze in her tracks; a massive room dwarfing entire airplane hangars was unveiled behind those doors, with walls made from concrete which climbed a hundred meters up. It was a breathtaking piece of architecture of stupendous magnitude, defined by the floating platform in the middle of a colossal space that had a lonesome desk and two spherical seats beside it. A shaft of sunshine shone on a rippling pool of water surrounding the platform, catching light on the colorful koi fish swimming in it and illuminating the mist from the waterfalls that climbed the smooth, concrete walls. The Madame could see a silhouette sitting behind the desk with what appeared to be a cigarette in her hand, draped by the dimness of the shadows in the chamber.

“Madame Celukwazi. I have longing for your arrival.” A soft-spoken feminine voice from behind the desk said, echoing throughout the walls like a low hum as she spoke. “I understand the predicament which you are in that could have made travel difficult.”

“Angele Lefebrve. It’s an honor” The Madame interjected, nodding a quick affirmative and walking across the concrete steps which jutted out of the water like rocks and served as a walkway to the platform. A match flared in the darkness of the room, illuminating features on her face. Angele touched flame to the cigarette and drew hard. As the rice paper crackled, the tip gleamed like embers in a blazing fireplace. Angele exhaled heavily, sending a stream of smoke ceilingward. Madame Celukwazi sat down in one of the spherical chairs, eyeing the woman with suspicion. A vase of multi-colored tulips sat on the mahogany surface of the desk; the delicate petals browning from decay and negligence.

“Madame Celukwazi, the honor is all mine— the Lagerkvist Company will be willing to provide the services that you need.” Mrs. Lefebrve explained, drawing on her cigarette again and lightly tapping it over an ashtray with her index finger. Celukwazi let out a sigh of relief, cupping her hands in a gesture of gratitude. A small drone, no larger than a golf ball, slowly hovered around Madame Celukwazi as Angele spoke. Lefebrve leaned in, lowering her tone: “I want us to be friends. And if not friends, allies. Can we do that?”

“It would be ideal.” Celukwazi responded, savoring the burn of the tobacco and letting out a heavy exhale. Angele nodded blankly at that statement

“Indeed.” Lefebrve responded, gently flicking her cigarette and burying it in the silver tray of ash.

“Mrs. Celukwazi, ever play chess?”

“Once. As a child. My uncle taught me.”

“All of us are pawns. Like puppets, the system, the National Committee, it dictates every facet of our life— It’s not a democracy— most are miserable.. unhappy, but that’s how life is.” Angele says, vividly gesturing with her hands. Madame Celukwazi opens her mouth to speak, clearly fighting for self-control; a flicker-flash of emotions passes through her face. Lefebrve continues: “and like puppet masters, the system functions off the obedience of the pawns. It keeps order and stability. I can see through you. Madame Celukwazi, you aren’t a ‘savior of the people’ or want to install a democracy. A tyrant is what you are, leeching off the desperation of the masses. It’s exactly like a game of chess and it’s ultimately your move.”

“Ms. Lefebrve, I came here to negotiate the terms for 1,600 of your personnel to be deployed in Lydennekal, not to debate your philosophies or opinions about my leadership.” Celukwazi responds with a cold and controlled tone. Angele chuckled deeply, lazily clicking buttons on a remote and showing a projection of the divisions which were to be sold. An expeditionary force of 1,600 which would be sent to Tor Dutnua Thennts to orchestrate ambushes and engage in guerilla warfare against the enemy. It displayed information about each soldier and the equipment used. Madame Celukwazi examined the troops.

“It’s simple guerilla warfare, correct? I wouldn’t waste any money on any modifications like advanced weaponry from the Lagerkvist Co. catalog. Motorcycles, tanks and armored trucks should be fine for a small nation like Tor Dutnua Thennts.” Angele said, shutting off the projection with the remote. She crossed her arms, waiting for a response from Madame Celukwazi. “$26 million is the base per division for an operation like this.”

“I can do $24 million.”

“It’s not negotiable.” Angele stated, keeping her position. An irritated Celukwazi continued to attempt to bargain with the CEO. “A soldier is too much of a risk to lose. I’ll need at least $25.5
million to cover the costs.”

“$25 million.”

“Cost of transportation. $25.4 million.”

“I can pay half upfront and the other half after the operation is a success.” Madame Celukwazi answered to the offer, reaching out her hand to shake on it. Angele scoffed, retracting her hand and firing back.

“Listen, Mademoiselle. I don’t know what dung-filled market stall in Belport you think this is, but I am asking for you to wake up from your delusions. You’re in Strallé— heartland of Jenovah. I have no reason to not turn you into authorities right here and now. A bounty was placed on your head for your treasonous acts. You will pay the full amount needed. A death will be extra.”

“Alright. It’s settled.” Celukwazi shook her head in defeat, raising her hands in surrender. Angele reached for a handshake.

“It’s settled.”

1,673 words. It's short but I hope you understand. Not much information about the frontlines, unfortunately. More internal matters.

Private Harold Hourly sighed impatiently as he scanned the horizon for the millionth time. He and his buddy Sally Secondhands were on sentry duty...again. After the declaration of the Supple "intervention", the Supple Defense Forces had poured into the Confederation of Independent Colonies by the thousands, determined to keep out any all and Great Jenovah forces, no matter the cost! Small problem though: the issue was that there were no Jenovachi forces to defend COIC from! Much as the SDF had down in the great Komashi war, it would seem that Jenovah was dragging their feet on their troop deployments, leaving the Supple soldiers with an eery sense of calm before the storm. Unable to enter Tor dutnua thennts due to the lack of enemy soldiers, the SDF instead began to fortify its positions on the COIC-Tor Dutnua border, ready to advance at a moments notice, but not really wanting to if there wasn't a reason for it. After all, while the prime directive was to protect COIC at all costs and keep the enemy as far away as possible, why should the SDF waste precious time and energy marching toward an enemy that might not even make landfall? Besides, why should they be responsible for taking the brunt of the invading force when their Tor Dutnuan allies were more than capable of fighting on their own? Of course, the SDF would arrive to heroically reinforce them as the fighting came closer to the border, they weren't completely heartless. And the closer they stayed to COIC, the closer they would be to the Supple Supply Lines.

So, they dug in and braced for an attack that was unlikely to ever arrive. Finding the current border fortifications unsatisfactory, the Supple Corps of Engineers began building their own, at no cost to their COIC allies. Bases were constructed, pillboxes and watchtowers erected, and trenches and fox holes dug, to prepare COIC for an army that wasn't coming to attack them. Indeed, perhaps all these fortifications weren't meant to protect from an attack by an army, but instead, a possible horde of refugees fleeing the violence that was inevitably about to come, no matter how much NSL wished for a peaceful resolution.

It was on top of one of these watchtowers that Harold and Sally found themselves in, once again scanning the border for any signs of trouble, of which there were absolutely none. Bored out of his mind, he turned to Sally, resting the base of his rifle at his feet. Yawning, he said to her:

“Hey Sally, how much longer you think they’ll have us up here? I think I’m falling asleep on my feet, like you know I got none last night! Seriously, they’re working us to death out here! Building stuff, knocking things down, its criminal, I tell ya! Crim-min-al!”

“Oh, will you shut it, Harold!?!?” Sally retorted to him, bags visible underneath her eyes. “No one’s been able to get any sleep! All the banging, the noise, its driving me up the wall! And no, I have no idea how long we’ll be up here, could be all night for all I know! I swear to Kek, if you ask me one more time, I’m gonna throw up off this watchtower!”

“Chipper as always, huh Sally?” Harold muttered to himself, before receiving a quick smack on the back of the head, an annoyed Sally staring daggers at him. “Chill, its just a prank bro!” Harold said softly, rubbing the back of his head as he once again picked up his rifle. He paused for a moment, taking in the sight of…nothing, as he continuously scanned the Tor Dutnua side of the border.

“Hey Sally, you think we’ll see any fighting?”

“What? Probably, I dunno. They say Jenovah is gonna land any day now, I’m surprised they haven’t alreafy. I’m sure it’ll be fine tho, we got us, COIC and Tor Dutnua all on the same side. How are they gonna beat us all? No shot!”

“Yeah? I dunno, I heard their was some sketchy stuff going on in Jenovah? You hear the rumors? They say the whole place ain’t run by peeps, no, its run by a computer!” Something to do with their intelligence system, I’m not sure. But I friggin’ knew it, it was only a matter of time before the robots took over! Don’t be a fool, they’ll be coming for us next!”

“Yuh-huh, sure, whatever you say Harold.” Sally rolled her eyes as Harold continued to rant about “robot uprisings” and the “age of machines”. Seriously, why’d she get paired up with such a weirdo? Ugh!

“Ope, I think I see movement! Wait, its just a rabbit, nevermind.” Harold sighed dejectedly as he lower his rifle. “Bro, seriously, I’m losing it man! It’s getting to me! Ah!”

“I swear on Kek, if you don’t shut it, I’m gonna shove this rifle somewhere that you don’t want it to be shoved in, yeah?”

“…..”

“Anyway, just be thankful its calm out here. Believe me, once the shooting starts, your gonna wish we were up here staring at nothing. Trust me, when your down in the muck, shells landing left and right of you, its not fun. Not by any stretch of the imagination.”

Harold pondered her words for a minute. Maybe she was right. Then again, Harold had never seen any combat, so what did he know? Fresh outta highschool, he had decided to do his patriotic duty after reading about the current tensions on some online forums. They had made some pretty good points, at least he seemed to think so, so he had decided that he to, wanted to fight the evil Jenovachi. His parents were less then thrilled, to say the least, but they weren’t able to stop him. And so here he was now, wondering if he had made the right decision after all.

His quiet musing were cut short as the watchtower’s radio came to life. After a brief bit of static, a message began to be emitted through the radio’s receiver:

…landfall, repeat, Jenovachi troops have made landfall. All units are to report to their section commanders for deployment orders, effective immediately. May Kek help us all, ladies and gentleman, for we are about to start this war.

Harold and Sally nodded at one another, as the pair began to make their way down the watchtower’s ladder. Soon enough, Harold would have the answer to the questions he had wondered about. For the calm before the storm was over, and the waiting had finished. The Supple-Jenovachi war was about to get on, and soon, all the suffering and destruction it would bring would be felt firsthand…

German-russian empire

The naval task force that had intended to invade Beleghata had been re-routed towards the Fusean nation primarily because a response failed to reach Guyomartand. High Command had been irritated by the unfortunate circumstances they were in, but a new target was quickly chosen. The German-Russian Empire was chosen. It was deemed close enough to the original invasion target and isolated enough in global politics to not cause a coalition against the Empire itself.

The first combat patrols from the aircraft carriers were sent out. Their primary goals were reconnaissance and preventing any pre-emptive strikes if they decided to retaliate against the Imperial Fleet. The first bombers were being prepared for the bombardment of enemy fortifications and positions. The Fleet was preparing to enact a blockade against their ports to strangle their supply of goods, aid and any potential weaponry sent their way. The transports carrying soldiers were preparing to enter the landing vessels to begin the actual invasion while the fleet provided fire support. Although the weather wasn't ideal for an invasion, the land forces needed to arrive on the beach as quickly as possible while they hadn't been detected.

However, before the invasion could begin. An ultimatum was issued towards the German-Russian government from the flagship of the Imperial Fleet, the HHS Sanctus Victoria.

The Ultimatum of the Sanctus Victoria:
First Demand: The German-Russian Empire will concede the territory demanded by the Imperial Government. The GRE will not try to influence groups which wish to rejoin their homeland. The GRE will also recognise the Holy Empire's territory as Guyomartandian.

Second Demand: The GRE will also accept any refugees coming from the new territory if they wish to move.

Third Demand: The GRE will also pay for any damage caused to the territory if anarchy breaks out due to government support before it is annexed by the Holy Empire.

Fourth Demand: The GRE will allow Guyomartandian companies to freely operate inside their nation.

We are being merciful towards your people and country. Failure to comply with these demands will result in a declaration of war upon the GRE and we will cease our mercy upon you.

The Imperial Fleet awaited a response...
