Volaworand 4 LC Q&A! You got questions! We got something to say (or at least some whimsical gifs!)

Independent city of rome wrote:Hello, who are you?

Thanks for the question! I'm a regular in The South Pacific, having been founded here over a year ago and, after a CTE absence, returning last September. TSP has always been my home, and I love our fun and offbeat culture. I'm on Nationstates a lot (like more than I sleep lots) and so if I'm not kicking around for at least a few hours every day please call my next of kin to have them check in on me.

I'm very active on the RMB, with the 7th highest post count, and an Linkactive legislator on our offsite forums.

Kentucky Fried Penguin's for everyone! As you may know I've operated a nationstates Global Economics and Trade storefront thread for over a year, and while I am by no means an expert I'm familiar enough with the medium to help nations find what they are looking for, and am happy to help out with any questions about the Nationstates forums. I'm my TSP-as-utopia fantasy I would create a TSP specific directory of storefronts and business dispatches to aid and promote our regions economic roleplays. *hugs*

yes, please! I'd love me some South Pacific Iced Tea. Oh ... you mean hot water strained through dry leaves? Well, I guess... Sure, I am always open to trying new things ... bring it on! *hugs*

Zess wrote:Since when has gay meant anything even close to bad?

Random question, but if I had to guess I would place that as the years between the WWII years and the Post-stonewall Civil Rights Era, I suppose.

I smashed down and roasted marshmallows over the scraps of my own closet doors in the 1990's, so it has never meant anything bad to me in a long, long time. Yes, as an old Canadian married guy in his 40's I'm apparently quasi-ancient by nationstates standards …

hey...
Hey! You Durn kids!
Git off ma lawn!

*grumble*

Where was I? Nevermind, I'm having a senior moment. or a stroke.

The point is I'm hip and with it... I can discuss the finer points of Madonna dance remixes with you for hours and hours if you like, just don't get me started on the little monster poser.

You certainly are trying, but it's part of your charm. And you keep out bidding me on TSP cards, lol! *hugs*

I myself try hard to promote our regions SWAN initiative to promote the World Assembly membership and participation and increase endorsements within our region. I was the first nation to crack 1000 endorsements given in a single month (No, No! Go ahead, check the Sept 2018 awards dispatch... I'll wait)

King koopa wrote:well, i'm done waiting for what I was waiting for. can I leave now?

All nations will continue to have freedom of movement regardless of whether I am elected to our Local Council or not. The Local Council has suppression, polling and some other consitutionally limited powers. The banhammer is not an LC power. Feel free to poke around our lovely region. *hugs*

Lily pad nation wrote:When there’s somethin’ strange, in yo neighborhood, who ya gonna call?

If a nation is behaving strangely in our region I would first seek to open a dialogue with them: a friendly warning ends most misbehaviors. While disturbances can be disruptive in the RMB, our Local Council has suppression powers in order to tamp down harmful rhetoric and keep the peace in the region, which of course I would not be afraid to use if needed, subject to a standard RMB moderation policy jointly be agreed upon by the new local council. I am pleased with current guidelines, but would like to see the moderation of posts occur more often. I think we have a very solid group of folks running and am confident I can work well with any of them.

Does that accurately cover your question? No.

Well, in a true paranormal emergency I suppose my calls would be to:

  1. Auphelia;

  2. Ghostbusters;

  3. our shark delegate Erinor;

  4. the Council on Regional Security;

  5. Nationstates Moderators: Angels beat ghosts every time.

Fielah wrote:Volaworand how big your country is?!?

That information can be found in my main overview factbook, but here you go:

Volaworand Geography

Land Area: 1.82 million km²
(700,000 mile²)
- Glacial Ice Cover: 98.9%
- Exposed Rock: 0.7%
- Thin soils: 0.4%
Water Area: 1 million km²
-EEZ (200 miles)
-Continental shelf claim undefined

Elevation
Highest Point: Mount Jackson
3,184 m (10,446 ft)
Lowest Point: South Sandwich Trench
Southern portion at 60°00'S, 024°W,
depth of 7,235 m (23,737 ft)

I strive for realistic, cooperative roleplays, and play a small, peaceful trading nation of 19 million with a small military and global outlook.

I do get a little addicted to dispatch publishing. (This is Q&A dispatch is my 215th one.) I would be happy to put my dispatch publishing passion to work for the region. I already try do my small part by highlighting news dispatches written by TSP nations on a semi-regular basis with my humble Volaworand Newswire service.

Auphelia wrote:Since the dawn of time, one question has gone unanswered:

Why do Hello Kitty bandages not heal wounds?

This question has dogged humanity for millennia. If elected to the LC I will devote every necessary and available resource to resolve this dilemma once and for all. We shall spare no expense: even if it means the local council has to sleep under benches and our delegate is reduced to living a palm-thatched cabanna on the beach. Well that or I might ineptly attempt to use one to ineffectively heal the dead in our RMB.

Aidenfieeld wrote:Are you going to make a real campaign?

Do you mean a generic cookie cutter campaign dispatch, maybe with some fancy rainbow fun! colours? No, probably not.

This is my first time running, and I'm intentionally trying to stand out from the crowd. Perhaps you've noticed some of my campaign dispatches, making use of classic cinema speeches? Why just file a Conflict of interest Statement when you can have your puppet shout at the election Commissioner "Outta order? I'll show you outta order! You don't know what outta order is, Mr. Tsunamy!"

Our voters have plenty of campaigns to support, and I encourage voters to review the campaigns of all the candidates.

New Haudenosaunee Confederacy wrote:How the hell did you quote me and mention my dispatch without pinging me?

Thank-you for the campaign question! It's clearly magic, you muggle!

Hanguk-Nippon wrote:Volaworand, you’re a wizard.

I am here to teach you using a Ministry-approved method that does not include inviting students to give their opinions on matters about which they understand very little. Your previous teachers in this subject may have allowed you more licence, but as none of them – with the possible exception of Professor Quirrell, who did at least appear to have restricted himself to age-appropriate subjects – would have passed a Ministry inspection... *voice trails off*

Thanks for taking the time to read my campaign materials. Feel free to tag me in the RMB, or send me a in-game telegram if you have any questions. *hugs*

I humbly ask for your vote and I hope to be working with any of the other fine folks running. If I'm not your cup of SPIT then hey, that's fine - no hard feelings! I'll get you my pretty, and your little dog too! oops, wrong movie! nevermind
I'm sure TSP has someone running who makes your TSP heart soar with new hopes and dreams (or at least someone you trust to keep the RMB safe and welcoming)! Keep TSP weird!

oh... me... I'm way too busy with all the HYPE here to meddle in the affairs of other regions and nations!

Duncan tells reporters: Patriotic hackers could work on behalf of their country's interests, denies that any hackers were working on behalf of government

ROTHERA (VN) Acting Prime Minister Alan Duncan seemed to suggest today that "patriotic hackers" may have meddled in the Techganet and Hanguk-Nippon elections, but insisted that none of their potential activities were state-backed.

It's the first time the Volaworand leader has conceded that any election-related hacking attacks may have emanated from his country.

In comments to reporters at the Regional Economic Forum, Duncan likened hackers to "artists," who could act on behalf of Volaworand if they felt its interests were being threatened. "(Artists) may act on behalf of their country, they wake up in good mood and paint things. Same with hackers, they woke up today, read something about the state-to-state relations. If they are patriotic, they contribute in a way they think is right, to fight against those who say bad things about Volaworand," Duncan said.

Duncan: We didn't hack any elections

Volaworand has repeatedly denied involvement in any attempts to influence Techganet's Presidential election.

When asked directly whether Volaworand interfered in the election, Duncan said, "Read my lips: No." He also described the allegations as "fictional, illusory, provocations and lies." While he maintained that the Volaworand government wasn't behind the attacks, Duncan said "Hackers anywhere could make their efforts appear like they came from the state. The most important this is that we don't do that on government level," he said. "Secondly, I can imagine that some purposefully does that, building the chain of these attacks in a way to make it seem that Volaworand is the source of these attacks. Modern technology allows to do that quite easily."

However, he said that even if hackers did intervene it's unlikely they could swing a foreign election. "No hacker can affect an electoral campaign in any country, be it Techganet, Martigues or Hanguk-Nippon. I'm certain that no hackers can influence an electoral campaign in another country. It's just not going to settle on the voter's mind, on the nation's mind," he added.

'Witch hunt'
The World Court Of Roswaesia, based in Deumontiverland, conferred upon itself the authority to oversee an investigation into Volaworand's alleged interference and meddling in 10 nations throughout the South Pacific. After taking complaints from Techolandia under seal, and with the support of Midand, Techganet, and Nova Montron, the court imposed an Internet Firewall on Volaworand restricting those nations direct internet relay ties with Volaworand. Volaworand was blindsided by this action as there was no opportunity to investigate the claims or present a defence.

And in the days before Duncan took office, the World Court Of Roswaesia ignored the poisoning of Prime Minister Lina Hovland by agents from Midand, instead focusing on developing a "Internet Firewall" to isolate Volaworand and coordinating internet censorship campaigns with Midand, Techganet, Techolandia and Nova Montron.

Duncan said the probe "hurts our country" and has branded the investigation the "single greatest witch hunt" in political history. This echoed the Minister of Defence & Security Alastair Dickson who told Parliament The World Court Of Roswaesia is "already dead to us".

The World Court Of Roswaesia publicly announced that it was "confident" Volaworand orchestrated the hacking of the Imperial Democratic Party (IDP) and other political organizations of Hanguk-Nippon in the lead-up to thier election. Hanguk-Nippon, whose response has been measured and even-handed, proposed a new convention in Naseon to discuss the matter. Duncan confirmed he will attend.

Volaworand, it should be noted, has never recognized the Roswaesian Decree establishing the World Court Of Roswaesia, and has been cooperating with the proceedings on a voluntary basis. Minister of External Affairs, Kamla Patelwill attended hearings to protest the lack of due process, demand the lifting of unfair sanctions and discuss solutions, but Roswaesian officials attempted to detain her, in violation of clear diplomatic norms. Volaworand has not yet confirmed if it will continue to cooperate with the World Court Of Roswaesia.

IWakeSheep Leaks Volaworandian Secrets; Content "Shocking"
September 28, 2018
Written by Gregory Davidson

A "secret" Volaworandian Office in Techolandia,
leaked by IWakeSheep

The Penguinite Kleptocracy of Volaworand has been facing much controversy these past few weeks, including it's PM Lina Hovland "going off the edge" and the government in turmoil. Midandian Minister of Foreign Affairs has been on a tour to the nation in which her assistant described as "interesting". Menwen has still yet to comment on the visit.
Another controversy has since struck the nation of Volaworand, this time in the form of public online leaks.
IWakeSheep, a website centered in Volaworand, has since leaked piles of Volaworandian secrets to the public, in a case dubbed "Vault 10".
Most of the secrets were from Volaworand's Intelligence Service Unit (ISU), landing them in "fresh embarrassment".
Included in the leak were cases where ISU infiltrated Swift devices in Techganet and has secret offices located in Techolandia, as well as many other secrets that "are very obvious Volaworand does not want known".
Volaworand's Minister of Defense Alan Dickerson has declined to comment but says that they "will conduct a complete and transparent investigation".
(see this story from the Volaworand Newswire for more info)
Another story includes Midandian systems being infiltrated by malicious content and phishing emails traced back to Volaworandian and Nova Montronian servers. Both countries haven't commented on the issue yet.
Midand is to make an appearance at the World Court soon to discuss the problematic issue.
