Nylos wrote:Leap Gate Neterettan, Contact at Andalus—Curious Creatures

Nytokheris watched curiously as the ship entered into the hangar, landing inside of the vacuum of space on the other side while she was comfy in a chair on her little patch of protected grounds. The barrier around her was designed as an interactive surface, but more importantly it was a high durability wall between her and the aliens. Even in diplomacy there had to be safety, and especially in dealing with an alien culture which specifically selected her. Between the two options, one being Archoi and the other Kheptheros, there was an understanding that the Archoi option was a much more treacherous path. It meant that these aliens either were adventurous in their choices, or truly of a different biology altogether; so far the latter of the two had been proven based on all she'd been observing in the last twelve hours. What was more curious to her yet though was that this ship, upon landing and anchoring itself down, began to flash lights like some sort of broken flashlight. Thankfully the barrier around her responded by blocking out a good portion of the light as to not blind her with all the flashes, but it was still such a curious thing to behold.

What were they doing? Perhaps it was some sort of attempt to communicate again, maybe they just hadn't noticed her yet. Given that things were in her hands now, the first Kheptheros of all in the history of their race to reach out to beings of another world, this was no doubt a momentous occasion that couldn't be taken lightly. Looking around her space, she pondered about what she could do here. Perhaps try to get their attention? That might do the trick. Nytokheris stood up and walked around the interior of her little cell, running her hand along the surface of the glassy translucent surface, watching holden ripples form around her fingertips and gradually formed command consoles which followed her. She tapped away at them, waiting a few moments until the barrier she was inside of processed her command and followed then closely. In three bright golden bursts, the barrier flashed, shielding her on the inside but remaining luminous on the outside, and cut out once again. Hopefully that would get their attention.

Once the bursts were over, she set to work constructing the displays which they could interact with on both sides. Section by section she walked around the little space and activated different consoles and interactive images which could be moved around by touch on both ends. Naturally she held control here, being able to take away such access on command, but the point of this was to try and communicate more clearly with the aliens. So she brought up images of simple objects, star charts, the homeworld Nylos, the position of this planet on Nylosian star charts and more. Such a vast distance to cross, and yet they'd moved so far ahead in no time at all. Of course, breaking the language barrier would take a long time, and a great deal of scientific knowledge that was beyond what this ship could immediately offer. Her goal was to assess the aliens, move the process forward, and make them understand what this ship was. But those details would need to come last, so she made sure that the image of Neterettan and the corresponding picture explanation of how it created a gateway to bridge countless lightyears was hidden for now. Another thing to wait for, on command.

She sat down again, putting her hands together and looking down at them. This flesh she was wearing, it was an Archoi; with smooth mammalian flesh and a splendid sun-tanned coloration to it. How fascinating it was to think their ancestors, those odd creatures who did not survive the Lunar Rapture, were so different from them. And what was even stranger was to consider that these new creatures might be nearer the Archoi than they were to the Kheptheros. No doubt it would be astonishing. She let her eyes wander upward, looking out at the alien ship. Be calm Nytokheris, the fate of the mission rests on you. No pressure, of course.

Diplomatic Shuttle "Alpha-1"

Al-Hamdani made the final check. Giving the close-by engineer a thumbs-up, he'd signal that he was ready. The aliens had made themselves heard that they were aware of the shuttle's presence in their hangar, so now the diplomatic mission could finally shift into the most important phase of them all: direct contact. Although he didn't like to think about it, he could feel his being gain on anxiety as the shuttle's rear door began to open. There would be guidance from both the SQACOM present engineers and even the orbital station should he become confused. Most of the engineers present had experience in both biology, advanced physics and even communication, so things would have to run smoothly.

Taking in a deep breath, he took the first steps outside of the space shuttle, feeling the magnetic field in his suit's boots keep him firm and steady. Followed by two engineers in their orange suits and a single, two meter tall robot assistant, he took point in leading the small team outside of the vessel, coming to slowly face the barrier the shuttle was facing. Step by step, he could do this without complications. Military discipline and drill kicking in, he felt the emotions of fear and anxiety slowly lose ground to self-confidence and assertiveness. And if these aliens knew about facial expressions, they'd probably be able to see his smirking, lightly bearded face through the transparent, albeit thick visor of his suit.

For a few moments, him and the engineers searched for pointers of the alien presence, until all eyes fell on. . well, THEM. Or just IT. A humanoid, that could not be doubted, but it was on the level of a certain uncanniness that it made al-Hamdani think if these were just mutated countrymen from old Earth, who've lost both language and their original shape through centuries of time and a hostile universe. But he didn't skip on his step, as did neither his fellow engineers, nor especially the emotionless bot that accompanied him and the duo.

Finally, he stopped in front of the shuttle, the oxygen reserves still at a full 99,8%. Motionless but for a mere few moments of contemplation, he cast what would probably enter as Amazighkind's first physical, Human-done hail to a civilisation few would'ove considered to be out there.

Lifting up his suited-up and armored right hand in the air, he graced the creature with an empty, gloved palm, giving it a slow-paced wave, moving the delicate hand left and right, keeping his smirk on his face, even though he felt the corners of his lips tremble downwards a bit at such an uncanny, yet exotic visage that looked down upon them. The engineers remained reserved, hands by their sides, while the bot stared on with it's single, white-glowing mechanical eye at the human-like creature.

"Hail to you, spacefaring comrade," he called out, his masculine, commanding voice amplified by his suit's outward speakers.

Leap Gate Neterettan, Contact at Andalus—Curious Creatures

Nytokheris listened with astonishment at how forward and strange the sounds this creature made were. They were like the same sounds that the Archoi mouthpiece made when she spoke, which was totally alien from what she as a Kheptheros would sound like. Of course, this sound of the alien was of no use to her given that there was no way to possibly communicate the two languages at present. But still, a humble greeting maybe? She could only hope it wasn't something dramatic like a threat or a curse of some sort. Or demands, demands were also not a good thing. So what to say back to them? Assuming it was a greeting and not the myriad of other things it could be, she mulled over the thought for a few moments. They would be able to hear her just fine, but anything said here would be heard and translated by her people some day, and likewise by theirs. What an exciting moment! Maybe they'd make a divine statue after her or name her a minor divinity when she died! Patience, calm, professional. She had to stay focused. Let's see...

She waved back at the man, unsure of what it meant, but imitation was key to the Kheptheros way. "In the name of the four sisters, and on the behalf of his divine majesty, Phaaraon Mekharr-Iah, chosen of Iah, I welcome you to Neterettan and I welcome you as a friend who also travels through space."

Was that good? Ah, it had to be, but no time to ponder it. Once her little greeting was concluded, she immediately set to work bringing up images between them. The walls of the golden glowing surface became littered first with images showing how the device worked. An image of people on either side, touching the wall, and how images would change as such. Once she felt satisfied that they'd digested this information, she took the next steps toward understanding. Walking a few paces away, she opened several images which were connected to one another. The first was of the two images that had been projected initially, and a line drawn between them with glyph names beneath them both. These formed one box, and from that box a line traced outward to another which contained a rotating image of the mother world Nylos, with her four moons, and also a moving diagram of their star, Akhelia. The words and moving data wouldn't be useful to them, but the focus was for the pictures, to try and explain their story. She then showed an image of the leap gate, this massive station, and six in total which left outward from Akhelia, leaving a marked territory and venturing into the unknown before the image focused back onto one of the trails, zooming in to show the star system now were now currently in, Andalus.

She looked for some sign of understanding on the aliens, trying her best to communicate all this. With so little to worth with, part of the interactive purposes was to make understanding. She walked over to another empty part of the surface and opened several empty glowing boxes, but began to act out what she wanted. She drew lines from her side onto the empty boxes, before tapping at the box again and watching as the ripple emptied her lines. Hopefully they would understand that she wanted them to try and draw the data back to her, only in their context. Form an understanding of sorts before she could unveil what they were here to do. But how would they know what to do? Nytokheris looked back at her original data which remained on the wall, pointing to it and then pointing to the alien who seemed to be in the lead. Once she was sure she had their attention, she pointed from him to the empty data boxes. Nylos was a culture of glyphs and pictures to convey meaning, pictures being integral to their understanding of language in most cases, though not all. Surely these creatures couldn't be that different? Though perhaps they were. Such questions, but she humbly stood motionless as she observed every action the alien would now take.

Breaking News: 37 cases of C-7 lead to a modified quarantine in the city of New Artemis on Serenitatem

In just days since announcing the first official case, hospital and local health authorities have confirmed the amount of cases are now at a total of 37.

“Effective immediately, the neighborhoods and districts of Kallix, Concordia, Saphos, Zandarium, Reynolds, Chorus, and Koldus are under a modified quarantine by order of the city of New Artemis.” said Mayor Ozak.

Modified quarantine meaning the areas have been cordoned off by health authorities but residents in the area can continue to leave their homes and go about their day, but are not able to leave the neighborhood. Non-residents do not have access to the area.

“We are in constant communication with the CDCR.” said Ozak. “We are discussing what ways we can initiate preventative measures without inducing panic.”

So far, the first patient with C-7 has had his condition worsen over the last few days. Hospital authorities have not said anything about him dying.

We are continuing to monitor the situation.

Portus Omrinu

((Accompanying Music: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iT0MdjEt7Wc&ab_channel=SilverMaple-Topic ))

Nylos

There was a grave silence upon the command deck of the Station, as the Nylos vessels continued to approach; the hails continued but the counter response was lacking and the tension was building as this great vessel shifted ever so slowly towards the station. Ieretanaak started a billion miles from Portus Omrinu, the volley of hails drowned the space it occupied in signals, yet nothing came of them; the vessel simply moved closer now in the millions of miles. The station maintained their gun emplacements on the silent ship like hawks looking for a meal, itchy trigger fingers and tension from the ongoing battle kicking into high gear, but they did not fire; their discipline in warfare showed. Instead Omrinu sent out another saturated burst of signals, and yet the vessel still there had no response, not even an attempt to speak back with gibberish. The sensor pings continued to update the vessel's distance from the station, bit by bit, as it traversed the empty space of the void, ten million miles... one million miles... one hundred thousand miles... one thousand miles each milestone marking another set of signals. Yet none were being answered. The station's garrison looked on in confusion and anxious anticipation waiting for something to happen, but there was nothing. Were their hails being ignored or were they not understood in any capacity despite the increasing simplicity of each subsequent message? Officers on deck checked and triple checked the trajectory prediction of the Nylos Vessel expecting it to be on a collision course, but they found it was slowing down. Was this a trap? Should they fire? There was no way to know if what they faced were some third party observers or a gang of saboteurs looking to take over or annihilate the mining station.

The tension reached a metaphorical boiling point as the vessel began to approach the final 100 kilometer mark, everyone on deck was looking to the Vessel with increased attention, and then it halted entirely. No one could have expected what would occur next except for those that conducted it, the vessel's sides and front suddenly turned into giant display screens, presenting images of a world never seen by the Confederacy or the station's personnel but which was assumed to be of some sort of importance to this foreign vessel. A strange array of argumentation began, the station's ill equipped crew for such an encounter, debating what this meant. Theories ranged from the metaphorical meaning to the strangest of Sosseath ploys, even as the battle that raged in the system appeared to potentially be arriving to a decisive conclusion. Then a commanding voice broke through the cacophony, Horitus Z'veratii, the station's commanding officer suggesting that the rest of his men stop overthinking the action and taking the simplest approach. It was clear to him that the vessel was attempting to communicate with them in a way that would likely be understood by both, of course under the assumption that both species could see with eyes. Regardless he gave the order to change up the signals they were sending to the vessel to something more audio-visual in the hopes that perhaps that might be something they perhaps understood.

With that the station would begin to send a number of audio-visual information packets containing among them images of the four Core Worlds of the Confederacy; among them, Dharak the desert war world, Kauldara the industrial and political center, Idris the paradise trade world, and Argosia the technocratic marvel of engineering. Their hope was that by matching the images provided by the foreign vessel they could perhaps establish a means of communication, and determine its purpose. Of course as per the situation their approach to this action is guarded, given that they still could not determine if the vessel was in fact not of Sosseath Origin; and any wrong moves on the part of the Nylos Vessel would likely trigger an immediate and potentially not friendly response.

New Tariff Hikes - Retribution for Den Fulkrum?

In a surprising turn of solidarity from the vulpine within the Alpha Centauri system, many of the Duchies on Sperenza have elected to heavily increase the tariffs on Stekarian goods within their borders, as well as onboard stations under their respective governance. This isn't expected to affect local markets too much, given the prevalence of other goods and services either routing from Sol or deeper within Silberflussian space. Duchies involved have stated their intention to use the income gained off of the increased tariffs to help Fulkrum charities, with their desire to enforce some kind of consequence for the unlawful attack the Stekarian Navy made during the Ch'I War against the city. Citing the Konigin's lack of action against the Nords for their transgressions, they have elected to take matters into their own hands.

Amnesty Parking for Sol Refugees

Due to the ongoing conflict within the Sol System, the Konigin has waived the usual docking fees for vessels fleeing the war zone, and offered any who wishes it temporary asylum until the conflict is over. While much of the planet's defensive network has been reinforced and kept on ready, the majority of Sperenza's efforts are presently preparing for mass aid and support for Post War efforts, as well as getting ready to ship out food to regions who have been cut off from the usual supply chains. Local vessels are advised either to park on the planet below, or to avoid more public stations as refugees flood in. Newcomers are also advised to avoid the radiation belts of Sperenza, as well as to remain within the planet's shadow whenever possible to avoid the solar flares from Proxima Centauri.

Altair, Northern Pole of Vermell, Capitol World of the Technocracy

"My Queens, presiders over all, I come bearing news. News that will change our view of the Universe." said Major Kal'Sho.

The Court of Queens had convened to hear, a quote on quote, "discovery of great importance" from the Ministry of Science, one of the 9 great organizations which held together the Technocracy, bringing new knowledge to the kin of Vermell. Now the six great mothers of the Silonians sat in a semi-circle. As if their great stature wasn't enough, their red glowing eyes made their presence all the more controlling and authoritative.

"Our work upon Volrom has revealed a new clue to the evolution of intelligent life in the universe. Where one we believed that only Silicon-based life could allow the evolution of higher thought, Evidence produced by my research has shown that carbon-forms may be capable of the same feat."

The Queens' eyes glowed slightly brighter. While not evident through their crystalline faces, the Queens felt a collective emotion of equal parts intrigue at the prospect and offense at the suggestion that such lowly life could evolve to think as they do.

"Over the past 300 Kel, the Ministry has devoted itself to attempting to re-create intelligence in a carbon-form organism. Taking several of the life forms from the water world of Volrom, and subjecting them to arduous cognitive and resoning tests. Through accelerated breeding, and the subjection of the young to similar tests, our expirenment has produced a rise in situational logic, cognitive abilities, and reasoning speed of upwards of 27.89 percent."

"HOW DO YOU KNOW SUCH RISE IN APPARENT INTELLIGENCE IS NOT A RESULT OF DORMANT REACTIONARY BIOLOGY IN EACH GENERATION? came a question from Queen Arl'Maloc, her booming voice resonating through the chamber.

"Well, my Queen, such reactionary biology did not exist. Our genetic mappings of the multiple organisms we tested showed no signs of dormant genetics related to intelligence in the creatures." Kal'Sho, with this stopped, waiting for the Queens' response.

A period of quiet passed before the Queens responded. "CONTINUE." said the Queens in unison, growing tired of the dramatic style that Kal'Sho was conducting he speech in. their combined vocals enough to shake the poor Kal'Sho.

"Understood. It is my recommendation that such findings be published. With this, we can finally prove that other forms of intelligence might exist in the universe, some that might not be Silicon-based. If we are simply given the go-ahead to start new trials with Volrom's creatures, we might be able to create actually intelligence within the two Ke-"

"NO." came the voices of the Queens again.

"THIS WILL NOT BE PUBLISHED, NOT IN ANY WAY." they said again in Unison.

"But my Queens, this is the finding of-"

"YOU DARE QUESTION OUR AUTHORITY?" they said together again

"I-uh, of course not."

"THEN IT IS DECIDED. WHILE YOUR FINDINGS ARE GREAT, WE CAN NOT RELEASE THEM TO THE TECHNOCRACY AT LARGE."

"But my Queens, please. Is knowledge not our value, our greatest treasure."

The Queen's however would not answer the question, they instead stood up from their seats, their hands folded together in front of them. They leaned over, faces all staring at Kal'Sho.

"WE," said Kila'Shilon
"ARE," said Lesha'Tatu
"CONSONANT," they said, speaking one last time in unity before their huge forms leaft the room and a disappointed Kal'Sho behind.

Breaking News: Neo-Pandora, Tranquillum reporting cases of C-7, DHHS and CDCR begin discussions of possible systems quarantine

Sad news from the homeworld today as Neo-Pandora health authorities report that there are a total of 74 cases of C-7 on Neo-Pandora.

“Today alone, we’ve seen a total of 62 cases. All female Eucadians. Yesterday, we only had 12 cases.” said Director Thomas Long of the Neo-Pandora Department of Public Health. “We are now at a total of 74.” The department is expecting cases to begin trending upward. In the city of Newmania, where all the cases are, the mayor and city council are having an emergency meeting tonight to discuss a possible modified quarantine, just like the one in New Artemis on Serenitatem.

“C-7 is a dangerous disease and we’re worried that we are in the beginning stages of a pandemic.” said Director Sancta at the CDCR. “We’ve reported three new mutations and we’re not even a month into this health emergency.”

The situation is just getting started on Tranquillum as well. “Today, we are officially confirming that Tranquillum has approximately 17 cases of C-7.” said Doctor Michael Kennedy of the Tranquillum Planetary Health Council. “We expect these numbers to increase. In the meantime, however, we are hopeful of the recovery of our patients.”

Director Sancta reported today at a press briefing at the Eucadian Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) that the Center for Disease Control and Response (CDCR) are working with government officials to begin a possible modified quarantine for the entirety of Eucadian space.

“It’s only a matter of time before the planets of Unitas and New Al’Terra also report cases. We need to have an appropriate and levelled response to this public health emergency. We’re looking at all the options right now and are in communication with President Brooks and Systems Council members, alongside the Queen and others in the Royal Institution.” said Secretary Carlson.

When asked what Eucadians could do to help prevent the spread of disease, Director Sancta said “Our research on C-7 is limited. Most of the information comes from the old world back in the 1980s. What we know based on this limited information is that it’s important to wash your hands for a full minute with warm water and soap and disinfect high-touch surfaces.”

“There is no information on the importance of wearing face masks or gloves or how long of a distance this disease can spread when one is talking and expelling small droplets from the mouth. We saw with Cor-2089 back on Al’Terra that wearing face masks was important alongside maintaining a social distance of 1 meter.” said Sancta. “But that outbreak lasted three months and was barely an issue.”

“We’re continuing to research and learn more about this disease. We expect to have proper methods of prevention here within the next few weeks.” says Sancta.

Lipton Colony Attacked!

Within the developing City of Walkerton, tanks and soldiers entered the capital and opened fire, after 30 minutes of a firefight, the Soldiers withdrew and left a letter on Capitol Hall stating "This world is not a colony of the United Federation, we are an independent world with many nations and peoples. The Independent States of Allied Republics (ISAR) will repel any further attempts at colonization." In response to the aggression President Garrett Walker deployed Federation Fleets Beta and Delta to orbit the planet, along with send a peace emissary to work out a compromise. Federation Military Experts have attempted to search for documents that may be related to early colonization attempts on the Lipton, so two theories have emerged: Lipton naturally produced human evolution or the residents were from Federation Citizens attempting to escape the nation.

As a result of the Attack on Walkerton and the Deployment of Military Forces, Anti-War Protests have erupted outside the Presidential Mansion, the Lead Activist gave a statement to FNN "These people wanted to go and form their own identity, society, and President Walker and the leaders of Confederate Imperium respond with violent repression. We say no to war and we say no to Imperialism. We should leave them alone or conclude some form of relationship with them."

According to sources close to the President, the Peace Emissary is going to unveil 3 options: Full Integration into the Federation, Commonwealth status within the Federation, or Association Status. The 3rd would allow for independence, but would allow the Federation to provide extra-galactic protection, along with managing the nations foreign affairs with our planetary leaders.
