I think another reason that Biden is so far blowing this one out of the water is the ad campaigns against him suck. Painting him and Kamala as far-left puppets is a horrible strategy because it's not true... with Clinton, Trump literally had a kajillion things to attack her on. But with Biden, he's just good ol' Uncle Joe.

Florida, Ohio, Michigan, Wisconsin and Pennsylvania? I think you could also argue North Carolina, too.

The only ones I've seen are the outright lies (from the GOP? Shocking, I know) about Biden wanting to defund emergency services

Those ads are so childish and lame, like a "SyFy original" (oh what happened to that channel years ago, poor thing) horror movie premise

Shidei wrote:Fallacy. The polls gave Clinton high odds of winning. Not guaranteed odds.

I'd argue at this point if people aren't going to admit their vote, it's more likely to be against than for, given the amount of sh*t he's caused recently. A good chunk of people that vote R only say they are to deflect attention from the rabid actual fans

Corindia I may have just crawled past my tank under the guise of playing with one of my dogs to not get my fishes' hopes up for dinner, since today is a fasting day.

Not sure what's wrong with me

Anyone up for a Ck2 multiplayer this Friday or Saturday. Please head to Discord so we can discuss time.

We will all be vassals of one large empire; most likely the HRE.

Serious question, why do loads of Muricans say "I have Irish heritage" or "I have Italian heritage" but rarely hear anyone mentioning their German or English or Spanish heritage which I am sure is way more common?

The English-Americans were the first large immigrant group, and preferred to identify themselves as native-born "Americans" rather than as a group from the old world.

German-Americans are definitely a thing, especially in the mid-west, though for obscure reasons during the early 20th century it became less cool to proudly identify oneself as a German than it did to identify as, say, an Irishman.

There was loads of changing your German last name to more "English-ish" as well right?

Muller = Miller, Schmidt = Smith, Fischer = Fisher, etc.

Did that happen only because of WW2 or WW1 or other stuff as well?

Miklania, ICly my diaspora in your country around or Imperial War would have done the same thing right?

I'm not aware of that being a real trend, but I'm sure some people did it. What magarati diaspora in Miklania there is would do whatever you think they would do in such circumstances. The attitude of Miklanians towards immigrants is that if they accept Miklanian culture and assimilate, they are Miklanians. Race is less important than acceptance of the culture.

Because American isn’t an ethnicity and we want to connect with our ancestry I guess idk.

Nah I prefer the Green Party tbh. Not a fan of abolishing the FDA, minimum wage or corporate taxes

From what I recall animosity towards Germans in the US was strongest around Ww1, so that's actually when a lot targeted attacks were happening and most of the anglicizing of surnames occurred. There was remarcably less of that in WW2

That is pretty obvious, good sir, as it is a nationality or sometimes a term used for people of the New World. That would be like saying Indian or Asian is an ethnicity. My question was more of why people tend to rarely mention their German or English or Spanish heritage but almost everyone with Irish or Italian heritage hype that up.

Hi im new, is there anything i should be aware about

Welcome! There is mostly this. If you want to know anything else, just ask!

Spanish-American or Hispanic is the only recognized ethnicity in the US, when filling out official paper work you are asked your race and your ethnicity (either Hispanic or not Hispanic). As far as English-American or German-American, I think since those were the two largest groups at the time of the revolution (10% German), they care more about being Americans then where they came from. The first Speaker of the House, Fredrick Muhlenberg was German. There was some talk of making all official papers to be written in English and German. There was another major influx of German people in the 1850s and 1860s following the failed 1848 revolutions in Europe and the annexations of Prussia after 1866. In fact there were so many Germans living in the US that entire Corps in the Union Army spoke nothing but German. The Irish didn’t really start coming to America till the mid 1800s, and were looked down on as inferiors (Watch the movie ‘Gangs of New York’). The Italian-Americans were not very many till the 1890s and early 1900s, and once again were looked down upon by the German-English Americans. I think they maintained that pride of where they came from as a defense mechanism against the prejudices thrown against them. In Louisiana, we have the Irish Canal, dug by Irishmen living in New Orleans, the reason Irish dug it because it was through the swamp and no one cared how many of them died digging it. In the antebellum social level of New Orleans, the Irish ranked below slaves, in other areas they were the po’ white trash.

Oh because we think highly of the Irish, they are tough and fought against tyranny and can handle stupid amounts of alcohol and are proud of it.
It’s more of the idolized version of an Irishman which tends to happen when you live so far away from the old world you cling to old legends and stereotypes.

Take Nepal for example, I’ve never been there I’ve only seen pictures and heard about some events, I know of the civil war and the Gurkhas so in my mind I think the people must be strong however I know better I know they face the same problems as everyone else.

It's because americans are so desperate to not be classified as just americans that they'll take any sort of qualifier
