I just witnessed a car accident. So tragic. The grandfather fell asleep at the wheel and the grandson jumped out before the crash. Iím a little shook but thatís how my morning is going

Hey, now...we borrow from Almorea as well.

Anyone's nation have a university with good technology-based programs? It's for a news article about a Martenyikan lad who studied abroad.

It's not something I've specifically fleshed out but it's something that would exist in Corindia. That and internships at tech startups

Perfect

Hallo, I joined since it seemed like a good RPing region and seems active as well.

I'm still reading the dispatches and stuff, but hopefully I can join the map today or tomorrow along with the forums.

Hello! Welcome to the region my dude! Glad youíre reading up on dispatches, thatíll do you well! Iím Aizcona, the regionís SoRP. If you have questions feel free to ask

Shidei and Corindia, my boyfriend wants to set up a ten gallon tank for his dorm and I donít know enough about what kind of stuff he should get. How many fish can he have? Does he need the shrimp and snails? What do you guys suggest?

The amount of fish varies significantly by the type, that could be quite a few neon tetras or a single betta. Snails and shrimp aren't technically necessary, and honestly only really "clean" the tank in a minority of circumstances, but they're a lot of fun and (shrimp at least) don't produce too much waste. Do you have a sense of how willing to take care of it they are? That's the biggest variable imo. If they want it to be very low maintenance, they could just do plants, shrimp and a nerite snail. If they don't mind cleaning and doing water changes, mystery snails and some fish. They'd have to do some of their own research on their water quality and what would work best with their pH too.

one thing to keep in mind too is that a smaller tank is not easier to take care of, it's going to be much more sensitive to changes in water parameters than a larger tank

Thank you Corindia weíre looking at stuff

In all seriousness, I'm thinking of joining only as an observer state. Or a full member but we can't really give much in terms of defense. We would feel uneasy with the whole mutual defense and 'military alliance' thing. But we do want to hang out.

We would love to have you even as an associate member.

You asked for input, you're getting input

I assume 10 gallons is the max size the dorm room will allow?
First time keeping fish or does he have prior experience?

How many fish you can keep is dependent on the adult size of the fish. For a 10 gallon tank you can't comfortably stock a huge amount of stuff, but there's still a ton of options.

I highly recommend snails. They're detritivores who will clean up missed food particles, algae (though don't rely on them in lieu of cleaning the tank walls), and the biofilm that builds up over time. And they're kinda fun to watch derp around. Put a Nerite snail in there or you could (intentionally or not) have some of the smaller ones like bladder or malaysian trumpet snails. Unlike the latter two, the nerite doesn't really breed out of control since they don't breed asexually and require brackish water

I personally think live plants are almost mandatory as well (assuming you don't get fish that eat plants), as they do a ton for your tank. Fish waste gets broken down into nutrients for the plants, and they also help keep your ammonia/nitrites/nitrates under control to a pretty significant degree. Some plants are super easy to take care of and are pretty darn bulletproof and they barely require anything other than being put in the tank and occasionally fertilized. They'll make the tank look better, your fish will be more comfortable with the added hiding places they provide, and they keep your ecosystem running smoothly.

Unlike Corindia I actually wouldn't recommend shrimp (at least to start). They do far better in established tanks where there's a ton of particulate matter, biofilm, microorganisms, and proteins that build up on everything as the tank's ecosystem gets going. If he definitely wanted fish, I think 10g is too small to get enough fish yet have the shrimp comfortable in such a small area. Bigger tanks give more room for everyone to spread out and do their own thing.

I also agree with my coworker. Smaller tanks are, surprisingly, more maintenance than larger ones. They're more sensitive to changes in water parameters. It's definitely not prohibitively difficult, but there's a reason my 29g tank only gets a 20% water change every month but I'd be changing weekly on a 10g. But again, plants will help with this to an extent. No matter what, you'll have to do work to keep your tank clean and healthy, and a shocking amount of people don't understand that.

keep us posted on what you're considering.

honestly I found it sort of hard to give a satisfying answer for 10 gallon stocking suggestions since I compulsively understock tanks because I worry about overcrowding

This stuff is great. Itís his first time as an adult keeping fish, he hasnít in awhile. This is good stuff to think about. Iím definetly gonna push him to get a snail

Hey same.

I'm sitting here like "can I put more cories in my tank?" and meanwhile people have a hundred neons in a 55 in addition to several other species

I wouldn't have them dump shrimp in at the start, and if they did add them it should really only be after putting a bunch of plants in for a while (a few months at least) just to see if they really want the tank in the first place. Lets them back out without even getting animals if they're not really into it, and in college people are sort of transient/busy and it may turn out to be a burden so best figure that out before they have animals.
