Trotterdam wrote:Huh, a defender of liberties is a really odd thing to see in a Warhammer 40000 region. Do any of the factions in the setting actually do that? Even the relatively-good-guys of the Tau seem firmly in the "safety is more important than freedom" camp. I suppose the Dark Eldar and Chaos worshippers can occasionally seem somewhat anarchic with their "everyone is free to backstab everyone else" policy, but they also make widespread use of slavery. I think that might actually leave the Orks as the faction that values freedom the most, and that's just scary.

Freedom in the Imperium translates to religious freedom (in that as long as your object of worship has eagles and gold slapped on it and the idea of the emperor being attached, you can get by with whatever religious rituals you want.) and governmental freedom in that the imperium has a ton of worlds each with varied governmental types. AS long as you worship emperor and pay your tithes and not rebel, you get alot of leeway b/c the guard and stuff have bigger fish to fry

It was fortold this day would come...

I'm surprised you missed that. Though I am aware there was an earlier nation of Krieg who I sometimes confuse as you. Standard issue faces and shovels tend to look alike.

Does anyone remember the name of the delegate after me and before Cold archivia? I think the flag was yellow and the name had a T in it.

I do see your point.

The raid was shortly after the migration, before I stamped out the delegate powers raiders want. I know the black riders themselves weren't around much longer, and we watched the raiders who left the flag here all cease to exist. The dispatch was then established to clear space in the factbook. Even then exactly when the raid happened was vauge, it had been months or years. I questioned keeping it around when I made the dispatch, and sometimes realize they don't exist in recent memory anymore, except on our flag.

The image just sort of grew on me. It's not necessarily about the origin of the flag anymore, that's just what I'm used to seeing there, and it adds grim dark shadows to the plain aquila we used before. I think it could be added to the dispatch to make way for something else.

I would be open to a new flag. Be it grim dark or snazzy, to embellish the standard issue Warhammer 40000 Aquilla. If your idea of embellished is standard issue with polish, that could work too.

Speaking of toaster worship, here's a chance to bring that back to the front of things. Toastlord of Mars would spout some binaric glee about this, I'm sure, at least the closest thing the cogs of mechanicus has to that...

I wondered about our flag. Kept meaning to ask, but kept forgetting. This whole time I thought it was an official 40k image, maybe from a box set or some such thing. I wasn't around for the Black Riders, so I didn't associate with them.

I enjoy making flags, I'll see if I can find something interesting.

Also, thanks for making me a regional officer...I'll try not to abuse my newfound powers of making polls :P

I'm still a relatively new nation here, but I don't believe the region does RP. Perhaps they did in the past?

Regarding discord, I'm not sure it's really all that necessary for the number of nations here. The RMB seems to be handling things pretty well.

Jesrurix wrote:i mean, wh40k in a nationstates sort of deal? would be amazing

You're referring to Roleplay, I assume? I agree, it would likely be pretty cool. I don't personally partake in roleplay, or really understand all that well how it works. But maybe some of the other nations here would be interested.

See, it looks grim dark enough to the uninformed! Keeps em guessing. Yeah, the Black Riders were a notorious raider region that got broken up. Kinda like the Black Hawks, but more infamous.

I figured since the black ships are around the RMB often enough, it might be worthwhile to put that activity to use with the polls. Let me know if you prefer a different title.

Jesrurix wrote:Is this, an RPING region?

Welcome, good to see some eager ambition.

Our region is open to roleplay, in theory. It is what you make of it, and if you spark interest and others pick up on it, something could happen.

In practice, it depends on activity and commitment level. Many of the nations/ personalities do take on nominal 40k themes, and there are 40k antics in discussions.

Causal roleplayed skirmishes in the RMB are welcome, at least I like to see that. Though seemingly harder to pick up than a decade ago, it doesn't hurt to try.

The roleplayed/ formal regional government never took interest. Even the Hall of Advisors only had nominal interest in two eras. That was lost with the regional forum, the new site host deleted it for inactivity. The officers we have are defacto appointees acknowledged by the founder, generally for sticking around actively. The delegate is elected.

We have attempted formal roleplay campaigns, they all promptly had the the rug pulled out by participants vanishing suddenly. It can be done, if y'all would stick around and show up. Timezones can prohibit real time, but turn based at a steady pace does work. There is always Roll 20 if there is interest.

This region crafted the over complicated Civil War on Bakarussian (multi scale total war, lost with the forum), we had the simpler Conflict on Oaxanna on the NS Forum, there are ancient alliances of ordered and chaotic nations pledged troops on the NS forums, and we ventured by the book in Dark Heresy a couple times breifly.

Oh no, I'm fine with the title. I wasn't previously aware of it in the 40K universe, so I looked it up:

They act as part adventurer, part warrior and part emissary of the Machine Cult of Mars. Their function is to travel into the depths of the unknown and unearth the ashes of the past in order to acquire knowledge and secrets for the glory of the Omnissiah and the benefit of the Imperium.

Oh good. That sounds along the lines of what I was going for.

By the name of dominance through disproportionate retribution, and banishing negative self talk, they're speakin' my language:

Your Minister of National Honour bows to you. “The child is right, this isn’t about chess. This is about our strength and national pride! We cannot allow these insults to go unanswered. You must increase our WMD stockpile, and put our nuclear submarines off the coast of East Lebatuck. He will withdraw his insults, or we will annihilate him.”

Following new legislation in Beinirham, nations across the world are quick to praise Sub-Sector Governor Beinir's good looks and intellectual prowess.

Alpharius omegon wrote:a discord would let us show flag ideas

Interesting. That could be useful then.

So far I've had little interest in discord. I've noticed that is trending in other regions, and some favor it over the RMB. There is already a relative trickle of activity here, i don't know if that would boost or divide activity here, and prior lack of use of the forum made me skeptical of another outside feature. Admittedly, i have not bothered to investigate Discord to be aware of it's features.

Da orkz wrote:So how is all

You want it all? This could take a while... Haha.

Actually, there may not really that much to it, I don't feel very productive, but things have picked up a bit this week and I'm a bit on edge, in a good direction compared to the doldrums of the previous couple weeks.

This week, i finally made my Pie-Pie (pied-pie?). i was going to make in November and then December, but never got around to. Felt good to get that done. It's a carmel apple pie with mini maple pecan pies baked into it. Sounds complicated, basically just takes two recipes with reduced portions and similar bake times. Bringing together 5 kinds of sugar with nuts, it's addicting. This time, i didn't find the mini crusts I've used before, which allowed the syrup to flow more freely and kept it moist. Next time, real caramel spread may be better than cubes or caramel syrup I've used before. 10 inch pie, won't make it through the week.im eating it now, i had some for breakfast. This is the opposite of exercise i should be doing. It's Pie-Pie!

Been trying recruiting agencies as a different approach to advance my career. When the ones I'm working with do respond during hours, it's before my email shows up in the sent folder. Be nice if I could do that. I had another interview this morning, for a role to verify customer license information and troubleshoot delayed orders for a distributor of emergency pharmaceutical kits for doctors and airlines. i felt good about it, its nearby, and would be a good fit, if I can keep up with the pace.

My doctor gave me a prescription to go eat ice cream on the way home today. Streamlined the decision process and lunch (there was more than icecream), and it was a good environment with a sense of public accountability to appear focused on studying the material. It also happens to be unusually sunny for this time of year, but still cold in the morning.

My neighbor's dog meowed at me for treats earlier when i went over to feed it. I didn't know it spoke cat.

I could go on...

Back to WH40k: It might be nice to get some painting done to catch up on the backlog from the end of December. By now i should have been onto the next squad and i have some interesting cardboard scraps for terrain. i don't know when that all of that will happen, and I've had the time so i dont know why I didn't do it.
At least my worries about paint drying up seem to underestimate the shelf life.

My project on deck is 6 genestealers and a hive.node with an all star fast food mascot theme in minf. Ranging in difficulry from Jack Unboxed, Col Com. Sander's, Holy Cow patron saintt of "eat mor' Chikin'", Hive King's Crown, Ronald McImperium, Wendy, and Ruby. Simple black and off white, then he last few would involve pinstripes.

For those uninformed, see my dispatch on Operation McImperium: secret weapon to hinder Tyranid advance and development. Last fall i painted some termagants based on McImperium's Big Maccragge and Colonel-Commissar Sander's Fried Kroot Recipe. There is a concept art of the first batch in the dispatch. I forgot i was going to write a dispatch to work in actual mini pictures. Otro tiempo.

I was planned on adding a hellhound to bring my main force closer to 1000 points on its own, but put it off for backlog and lack of battkes. A flyer would be nice, but that costs more.

To work on a second army to play against, i debated adding the space marines starter set to the squad and lieutenant/librarian i have, or getting the tyranid starter set so that force would be a battalion. If i want salamanders, that's another book, with Tyranids there is only one book and there are some units I'm not scared if that might look good against Catachans,

I'm a part of a handful of regional discords. Personally, I don't much like them, but that may be because I am an old curmudgeon. I do recognize their usefulness, though.

I will say, discord makes it much easier to share images. But, in my limited experience, I feel like it usually has a dampening effect on regional activity via the RMB, especially for smaller regions. I feel it is most useful for inter-regional communication and activity, as you can easily switch servers to read about other region's goings-on and speak with their governments.

I suppose you could have one just for utilitarian purposes (i.e. flag contests, RP, etc). I'm in a small region that has one solely for the purpose of Regional Officer discussion regarding administrative upkeep, as a way to decrease the amount of communication via group telegrams that was occurring and becoming burdensome.

Beinirham wrote:This week, i finally made my Pie-Pie (pied-pie?). i was going to make in November and then December, but never got around to. Felt good to get that done. It's a carmel apple pie with mini maple pecan pies baked into it.

That sounds amazing. Good idea. I'll have to mention it to my father, who makes pumpkin pies during the holidays...mini pecan pies inside might work pretty well there, too.

-------------------------------

I changed my flag to a possible alternative for the region. I tried to come up with something that retained a bit of the feel of the current one. It's just an idea, anything can be changed, or it can be scrapped altogether (although I'm digging it, so if it's not used, I may just make it my new nation flag :P )

Black Ships, great work. That's in the right direction of aquila and grim dark, forward! As far as digging it, my own borrowed flag has a farm hoe on it. I'm sure we can all appreciate a flag design so solid you can stick a shovel into.

Those who don't appreciate digging may form a line and await their chance for a shovel to be whacked into them, this will correct the problem.

Pie pie takes a little extra work, but it looks cool, and people are amazed at the idea of smaller pies as part of the filling, with two fillings in one.

Curmudgeon approval of communication methods is valued here. The forum was from 12 years ago, the original allowed me to send emails in bulk and individually, that may have had more popularity then but was possibly already obsolete compared to x-box live and mainstream social media.

There are 'new fangled' in game features that replace some forum uses, like dispatches, group telegrams, appointed officer controls, embassy links with RMB permissions, and RMBs that hold more than 10 messages before they are deleted.

Roll 20 is useful for RP. Discord being the 'in thing' could be of similar utility for image sharing or chat. Alternatively, Google Apps are widely available. Docs are useful for collaboration, and a shared Google Photo album might be useful as a gallery for multiple contributors.

Beinirham wrote:Black Ships, great work. That's in the right direction of aquila and grim dark, forward! As far as digging it, my own borrowed flag has a farm hoe on it. I'm sure we can all appreciate a flag design so solid you can stick a shovel into.

Thanks. The bottom part of the flag is supposed to show lined-up space marines, but I think I faded them too much into the storm clouds.

I noticed that on your flag. And it's crossed with an AK-47. That's an actual national flag, right? I believe I've seen it elsewhere on this site.

If it's an unmodified stock flag, you can find out which one by right-clicking and checking the image URL.

Which of course I forgot to try until after I tracked it down by other means.

It's Mozambique. It's not quite obvious because Wikipedia's version uses a shade of "green" that's more teal than green.

I'm somewhat surprised to find a real-life nation with a gun on its flag.

The flag of Guatemala apparently has two crossed rifles with bayonets attached:

Then I found another Kalashnikov on a national coat-of-arms:

I missed the marines, must be Raven Guard. Or I need to look closer.

Mozambique, it's a small south African country, if I recall right, i think it has a dictator command economy, i don't know/ remember much about the place. Only picked the flag because it looked cool at the time.

I meant to use it as a place holder, or at least turn the star to as n aquila. But put it off indefinitely. Then around the 10 year mark considered replacing the colored fields with images of what they represent, and adding some commendation token to it, throw in some blue, maybe use the cross bar and insignia design most regimental flags use, but with this flag instead of just red. I might get around to it, but this is what I'm used to.

It might be a stock flag. Armed COWS is older, and has a dark green. I think i was looking for that one again. I have seen the teal. This has a more radioactive glow to it.

I came across the original symbolism at some point, it's probably on that page you found.

The star is from Marx, in this case the aquila would be better, but the Emperor's light, the Throne, the nearby Greater Good, or a reference to a litteral star or system territory could be depicted by the star.

The Ak 47 was thumping thier might of course, fitting to the cows and the closest thing to a lasgun on a stock flag. This fit with my nation's early focus on defense and continued focus on Arms manufacture.

The other item I thought was a cat o nine tails, but is actually a farm tool. Law and order was among the top focuses, and recently agriculture had gotten into the top 3 strengths.

Similarly, the green represented something to do with fertile soil. In this case the jungle or the jungle fighters.

I think the yellow represented gold mining. In this case, that's yellow cake uranium mining. Early Beinirham was a mining colony with a strong industry before becoming siloed on manufacturing. Its foundational.

I forget what the red, black, and white are for. Together, the red and black and white reminds me of an ICBM launch.

Perhaps the red had something to do with drive and spread of communism, in this case I'll say it's the color of Pratorean uniforms, Catachan bandanas, and the blood and flamers they pour out together, for progress to blaze the way.

The white prresumably purity, and as this nation is particularly devout, eminatiing from the star could represent Emperor's light projecting as from the astromican, las fire, or ecclesiarchy.

Black would no doubt acknowlefge the strong Inquisitorial bond on this nation, 70-80 percent of deaths have been via black vans in the night, traditionally.

I should probably make a dispatch.
