The Federal States of Alympian Kingdom, commonly acknowledged as Alympia, is a federal parliamentary union in Northern Columbia. It is bordered on the north by Coseco, on the south by Osserun, by the east by the Scotian Ocean, and on the west by the Ascadian Ocean. Alympia roughly covers a total area of 10,121,314km, with an estimated population of 1,248,200,311 people. The nation is comprised of twelve Federal States, which by constitutional recognition acts as independent nation-states operating under the encompassing federal government of Alympia that is headed by the Federal Chancellor. They are the nation's head of state and government, who are almost always elected every four years through the Federal Electorate. Each state has different geographies, demographics, and governments that are independent of one another, led by State-Chancellors governing through State Senates.

Alympia is a highly developed country, with a high national GDP of $1,321,564,789,010,248 trillion. The per capita GDP of $150,327 ranks highly in the world. The income equality rate is excellent; there is little difference among the poorest and richest 10%, which is helped by large government stimulus and welfare support programs. The economy is fueled by strong industries, especially in technology, tourism, manufacturing. The abundance of natural resources, as well as high rate of employment and productivity, contributed significantly to Alympia's financial prowess. The nation's mixed-market economy, while efficient, is nevertheless a source of controversy. The private sector only accounts for 48.8% of total GDP, while government-owned and state-owned businesses dominate the market. This has led to a stagnation in entrepreneurship over the last few years, with big business owners viewed with much suspicion. Although the government is trying to encourage more private-owned businesses to grow through a variety of incentives, the dominance of public-owned enterprises can't be beaten. Alympia ranks highly in civil rights, political freedom, and economic freedom; as the world's 'superpower state', the country wields immense political and financial influence on the global stage.

Etymology

Alympia is derived from the common indigenous speech Virginis, and it translates to "Great lands". The name itself is an alternate name for the ancient Astraean Empire and has been used since the 12th century to colloquially refer to the nation. The title of 'Kingdom' is an homage to the Astrian people, who still to this day continue their 'twelve monarchies' traditions; Alympia has no actual king. The standard way to refer to a citizen of Alympia is as an "Alympian."

History

Modern-day Alympia was first inhabited by indigenous peoples of Columbia before the Astrian-Migration and Wilhelmburg colonizations. In around 591 B.C, when there was still an expansive landmass connecting Caynes to Northwest Coseco, merchants of the First Gaulic Confederacy began to settle the territory before eventually moving to the present-day lands of Alympia and Coseco. The traders formed settlements, which grew to city-states and later on small kingdoms along the country's eastern corridor. In 24 B.C, the Astraean Empire was formed from 12 kingdoms and persisted through centuries of change, flourishing into an internationally renowned imperial power. In 1403, the last reigning Emperor, Marsi IV, was assassinated when Wilhelmburg forces conquered the empire to instate a colonial government. High Commissioner George Wilhelm staged a revolution against the increasingly tyrannical Imperial Government in 1689, which has successfully enslaved the indigenous population and the Astrians. After a decade of constant battles and perpetual turmoil, the Wilhelmburg Empire ceded control of the territory to George Wilhelm, who would then declare independence and become the country's first Federal Chancellor. Upon the establishment of the nation, both the Astrian natives and descendants of colonists signed the Astrian-Alympian Accords. The treaty officially recognized the unwavering right of the Astrian peoples for self-governance and autonomy within their unceded territories. In turn, the Astrians pledged their allegiance to the newfound union.
