I mean you could, but it would just serve to feed the gophers that have taken up residence in the trashbins around the city. It'd also serve to make them all slippery and wet.

Remember: a wet gopher is an angry gopher.

A dry gopher is an angry gopher, too. Maybe the state of the gopher has nothing to do with it.

Anyhow, how have you been?

All of you. It's been a while since I heard anything from folks around here, and I miss seeing and taking part in the interactions that used to go on.

Oh how time flies and I wish I were the kid who came across NationStates one day again...oh was that too sentimental?

Thanksgiving Break is finally here for me, although some schoolwork still needs to be done so it’s really just a very long weekend. I’m helping my friend’s social venture startup as well, I’m very excited for her.

I find myself wanting the same thing. Back when my responsibilities were so few that taking care of an online nation took up a good chunk of my time.

I sometimes find myself wishing I had been introduced to it earlier.

That is cool. I've always been interested in those sorts of things. What's the focus of hers?

Been alright. Working in a bakery in a grocery store during the holidays is a bit hectic, but the overtime pay doesn't hurt. Just wish I had more time for schoolwork.

I've been trying to practice art again, too. I forgot how much I enjoy it.

How early are we talking? I think I was introduced to NationStates when I was around 14 (not with Iescech, with another nation currently in the Boneyard). I can't imagine being introduced to NS earlier than that

It's helping Guatemalan moms in the Guatemala City Garbage Dump make a sustainable living that doesn't involve needing to go through hazardous waste. So we work with an NGO already in the area to employ them as Spanish conversation partners. I'll shamelessly plug the NGO's website here: creamosfuturos.com and ours: projectolas.com (is this breaking the veil of anonymity we so enjoy on NS?)

Even without working, my motivation to do schoolwork has plummeted, so what you're doing is just amazing.

You guys do stuff? lol

I basically live in isolation, remote everything.

I wish people would do that more often...alas, I look on my Instagram feed and wonder why I shut myself in my home when there are people living their best life in a pandemic? Questions to consider.

I was only introduced about a year an a half ago. At the time I was 17. Just wish that I would have had more time to better get to know people before the current lull hit.

Though, had I come earlier than I did, I may not have ran into Mole. He's the reason I didn't leave after the initial excitement of solving issues wore off. Had I never met him, I wouldn't have stuck around.

Its really nice to hear about some of the good things that people are working for.

As for anonymity, personally I wouldn't be too concerned. As long as you feel comfortable sharing, I doubt it will bother anyone.

Iescech wrote:Even without working, my motivation to do schoolwork has plummeted, so what you're doing is just amazing.

I think my pursuit of art is a bit easier because it's something I enjoy. My motivation for schoolwork has left me as well. Apathy is a nasty thing.

Magloire has been in quarantine, nothing to be concerned about since we learned to 3D print masaman curry, a secret we'll be happy to share with the world once we actually remember where we... put the instruction manual for the dern thing.

...as for Magloire the player, my brain has just shut down for most of this year and my progress towards writing or anything else productive turned nil but slowly and surely I shall return to life, maybe, perhaps. It's good to see activity on here again, though.

I hope he's doing well, Mole deserves so much for everything he's been through on NS and this community he's built. And like he said, Agora exists when we want it to and wherever we want it to. And there's still some of us gathered together here.

I had to Google "masaman curry", perhaps that's shameful of me...

Hardly! Though it's an excellent dish if you ever spot a decent Thai place to try out. Also, I am currently laughing that I spend more than 3x as much on welfare as the next closest country does in Agora.

Of course not! Who doesn't like gravy?

Iescech wrote:I had to Google "masaman curry", perhaps that's shameful of me...

And who doesn't like a good masaman curry? Now, a masaman curry used as gravy ... Yum!

I do too. I think about how lucky I am, and everyone in Agora is to have been friends and have been able to interact so closely with him.

I've unilaterally given the "Agoran Calendar and Holidays" dispatch a revamp with new names for the months I'm sure all of us will enjoy and have kept only the most important holidays that actually mean something to us (I seem to have forgotten how to add a dispatch in a message...my my, it's been too long)

A great Brock-oli 25th to you all.

That can be hard, especially if you are used to/ enjoyed social interaction.

Before I started working that's how it was for me, too. I found myself doing a lot of walking around. I guess it gave me something to do. I don't know if you like or have any inclination to go on walks, but they helped me.

It also just occurred to me that it is likely much colder wherever you are, so walking around might not be enjoyable, lol.

Magloire wrote:Hardly! Though it's an excellent dish if you ever spot a decent Thai place to try out.

With curry paste, it's pretty easy to make at home, too. Curry is one of my favorite dishes and I'll share my recipes if anyone wants them.

Sort of unrelated, but on a similar note, does Agora have a language? I believe I may have seen something about it in a dispatch somewhere, and Janis mentioned it while we were chatting on discord.

We do! It's a bit...unfinished, I must say, and it's been a long time since the last time any of us have worked on it, but I can share the folder with you on Google Drive if you want.

I've found myself enjoying this little corner of the internet more than almost any other since I was invited here. I'm glad to have had the opportunity to interact and get to know those around Agora.
Happy Thanksgiving!

It's always embarrassing when you realize you made your proposed changes to the calendar and all and forget to hit the "Save Edits"...
