The Islands have officially recognized Minosa as an independent nation, and have sent diplomats to Muscalanka.

(I probably take military-based RPs too seriously lmao)

The government of Osajia thanks Prime Minist Pallet for his cooperation in this matter

Great Edmundia is so far still holding back from formally opening diplomatic relations. After all, the country remains staunchly Anti-Communist, and one of PM Pallet's election promises was to keep Communism out. More to come.

The presidential election in Osajia has been called in favor of now-President Abdul al Saud. He won with 99.3% of the vote. The 0.7% who did NOT vote for him are being hunted down and arrested for sedition. The new president has immediately suspended congress, and has begun cracking down on opposing parties. In addition, he has charged democracy advocates with sedition (hey, that rhymes!), and is expediting their trial. They are expected to all be found guilty and sentenced to death by stoning within the next few days. And finally, he is cracking down on Atheism, as well as Shia Islam, proclaiming Sunni Islam as the true Islam. He has outlawed worship of any religion other than Sunni Islam, with the punishment of death by burning.

The Islandsian government has condemned this election result as riddled with fraud and is calling on the international community to call for a redo of this election with international overseers.

Upon arrival, OAINR Chief Mick Mnuchin went directly to the Gladesopolis Nation Reserve Building to discuss the effective merger of the two currencies.

"I personally believe that the road to our equal prosperity is to be forged together; in order to achieve this, we must not constantly try to one up each others currencies. To accomplish this, I would like to hereby propose that in Great Edmundia, the Wealth Token can be used interchangeably with the Great Edmundian Royal; and in the Islands, the Wealth Token can be used interchangeably with the Great Edmundian Royal."

The Governor of the Reserve Bank of Edmundia followed up this sentiment.

"Yes, with these uncertain times, this does seem to be a wise economic decision. We will need to enact legislation in the Imperial Parliament to make these changes effective, but financially it is very sound. Especially in these volatile times, with unrest engulfing some of our closer regional neighbours and a global pandemic, it makes sense."

Supreme Court Building, Room 205

The defendant's lawyer is a man named Griffin Right, who recently changed his name from Phoenix Wright but was really unimaginative.
The prosecutor's name is a woman named Mia Mar.
The Judge's is name is Grant Ulysius. He will oversee whether the case can legally go to the Supreme Court

Judge: The court is now in session. We will now hear opening statements. You're up defense.
Defense: Your Honor, the Sage had now legal authority to banish these people, especially without the approval of the country in question. Sending the traitors to the most luxurious country in the Empire is clearly cruel and unusual punishment.
Judge: And now to the prosecution.
Prosecution: Your Honor, our country doesn't have the death penalty. Under our own government's laws, banishment is the harshest punishment imaginable. Typically, we send banished people to hellholes to live out brutish lives, but these people deserved far worse. They actaully initiated a coup in which people actually died, Your Honor. They deserve what they get.
Judge: Very well. With opening statements out of the way, we can move onto witness testimony. Defense is up first once again.
Prosecution: Thank you, Your Honor. For my first witness, I call Congressional Master Sergeant Gerald Ford.
*crowd gasps*
Judge: Very well, defense. Go on.
*Gerald Ford takes his seat*
Defense: You arrested Robert Walton, the primary perpetrator of coup, correct?
Ford: Correct.
Defense: How many MPs did he kill? Personally, I mean?
Ford: He killed none.
Defense: You see, he didn't commit murder; we have precedent that treason by itself, while it might warrant banishment, does not warrant banishment to the best place in the Empire. No further questions, Your Honor.
Judge: Prosecution?
Prosecution: Thanks, Your Honor. Gerald, you do agree that several of the members of Walton's group did personally kill MPs, correct?
Ford: I agree with that statement.
Prosecution: Very well thank you. Under the Independent Prosecution Act of 1143, Section 4c clearly states that the Supreme Court, nor any court, can revoke or commute the sentence of an entire group based off of a single member's actions. As such, if this entire farce is to continue, Your Honor, the defense must proceed on an individual basis.
Judge: Well said, Mrs. Mar.
Defense: Now hold on just a hot minute. Lava Guava specifically repealed this law 9 years after they gained independence, as Section 7 aimed to disrupt the freedom and sovereignty of colonial nations. They never authored a replacement. Furthermore, under Article 2 of the Colonial Freedom Act of 1856, all freed former colonies of the Islands can be used as independent legal avenues if the defendant feels that the Islandsian Judicial Branch is being unfair to him or her. Therefore, I request that case be transferred to the Supreme Court of Lava Guava for review.
Judge: What do you say to that prosecution?
Prosecution: I agree to the defense's terms, so long as the traitors remain in Liki Islands until it is settled.
Judge: Very well. Would either of you like to call more witnesses? Or will this be the shortest determination in my entire career?
Defense and Prosecution: No more witnesses Your Honor.
Judge: Very well. The court is adjourned.
*bangs gavel*

Judge: Welcome defense, prosecution. Today we will be determining whether or not it was legal to banish the perpetrators of the June Revolution to the best environment in the Empire, an unprecedentedly cruel punishment. Let's get started. Open arguments defense.
Defense: This is obviously cruel and unusual punishment. This punishment is completely unprecedented; sure, what they did was despicable, but did they honestly deserve this? In my humble opinion, death would be a better outcome then this dreadful punishment.
Prosecution: That's interesting...
Defense: What?
Prosecution: I request that we move this case into the Imperial Judicial Board; if death is a lesser punishment, than I would be happy to tell you that they NEVER just banish traitors.
Judge: Under what law do you make this motion?
Prosecution: Under the Treason Act of 1943 of the Edmundian Empire. This law states that any treason case can be transferred to the IJB if either side feels that the proceedings are unjust; I personally feel that this trial is unjust. Is that reason enough?
Judge: Yes it is. I expect you both in Gladesopolis by July 21 for the final iteration of this court case. It could very well end up with the summary executions of the traitors, which, the defense has stated, would be more humane than banishment.
Defense: Now, hold on just a minute-
*bangs gavel*
Judge: You have your verdict; carry on.

OOC; I got this TG from someone who I haven't heard of before

Hi, I would like to join your region. What is the password to join?

From a nation called Rooda.
I sent a message with the password, we should be expecting him/her soon. Or it could be a black hawk invasion. I don't really know. I do know however, is that we're low enough on members we should risk it. He/she looks clean, though.

(Yeah, sure, why not eh? We have an active Founder anyways so if it is an invasion we can just kick them out and reset the password)

YESS!!!

For this Empire Day, the Gladesopolis City Council is reportedly planning a "Salute to Edmundia" event. The event will be televised and citizens are advised to watch from home to ensure safety with the pandemic.

This has raised even more questions, especially within Imperial government circles. After all, the predominant Edmundian attitude is that if somebody does not submit to surveillance, they have something to hide...

The appeal to the Imperial Judicial Board has been noted. The Prosecution and the Defence will have the opportunity to make their respective cases in front of three IJB Commissioners at the Imperial Supreme Court Building. If the IJB rules that the court case in Lava Guava has been unjust, the Defence could win a retrial in a fairer setting. If the Prosecution win, the previous ruling of guilty will be upheld, and the defendants will be sent to the courts for re-sentencing.

Meanwhile, observers have been astounded at the proposition to appeal to Gladesopolis. It is well-known that Great Edmundian courts regularly hand out death sentences for serious crimes - 32 individuals have been executed for the offence of high treason since the formation of the Imperial Supreme Court. Rates of successful appeals against convictions in Great Edmundia alone are around 2%.

The decision has been finalized, over the objections of the defendants. The defendants have moved to drop the case, and accept their punishment, and stay in Liki Islands

President al Saud has renamed the office of president back to Sultan; furthermore, he has established a military dictatorship. He has also begun to round up atheists and religious dissidents/heretics and put them in concentration camps in a quest for "religious purity."

Of altonianic islands wrote:The decision has been finalized, over the objections of the defendants. The defendants have moved to drop the case, and accept their punishment, and stay in Liki Islands

In a closed hearing, the three IJB Commissioners today heard evidence from both the Prosecution and the Defence. The Imperial Judicial Board finally decreed after a lengthy deliberation that the Altonianic courts were sound in their judgement of the defendants being guilty beyond reasonable doubt. They have also taken the Defence's moves to drop the case, and have ordered a final retrial in the Liki Islands High Court in Lahabana to settle the matter of sentencing once and for all.

Legal experts at this point are speculating that the Liki Islands High Court will probably sentence the treasonous individuals to at the very least house confinement. As treason is a capital offence in the Liki Islands, the death penalty, unfortunately for the convicted, is still not off the table. Execution methods in the Liki Islands are renowned for being exceptionally cruel and unusual; the case study often cited is the Jersi Ripper of 1981. The criminal was convicted of the brutal knife-murders of 23 women in the Jersi City metropolitan area. He was executed on a public beach through suffocation by diving mask (with the mouth-hole sewn shut).

Legislation has been introduced into the Imperial Parliament. The Osajian Relations Act proposes to impose tough sanctions on Osajian government officials and businesses in order to force them to cease their human rights abuses. It also proposes an immediate cessation of arms and law enforcement equipment to Osajia.

BREAKING NEWS

In a press release from the Heptagon, it has been revealed that, at approximately 04:00 hours today, a New Athenian long-range strategic bombing aircraft was detected entering Imperial airspace. The aircraft approached the Great Edmundian mainland from a south-easterly direction; however, it was quickly intercepted by two Imperial Air Force F-22 Raptors and was swiftly escorted out of territorial airspace. What is concerning is that it seems the plane was launched from Minosa.

Hey Edmundia; Are you on a different time schedule? A couple days ago we were able to RP twice a day, but now we're only able to once a day. Before, I would RP early in the day, and you would respond at around 11AM Sydney time, and then again while I was asleep. Did something in your schedule change?
