History:

In 1867, the Colonies of Canada, New Brunswick, and Nova Scotia, Confederated into Quebec, Ontario, Nova, Scotia, and New Brunswick and formed the Kingdom of Canada, a Semi-Autonomous Kingdom of the British Empire.

1871, following the construction of the Canadian Pacific Railway, the Colony of British Columbia would enter into Canadian Confederation joining the Kingdom of Canada.

Eventually in 1873, Prince Edward Island due to crippling debt issues was forced into Canadian Confederation as the fledgling nations 7th Province.

1914, Canada is drawn into the First World War, despite objections from Quebec, putting strain on the tenuous relationship between Quebec and the rest of the nation.

The Battle of Vimy Ridge during the first world war would be the blast furnace in which the Canadian identity would be forged.

1917, due to rising Anti-German sentiment in Canada, and across the wider Empire, as a result of the Great War, King George V would re-style the House Saxe-Coburg and Gotha to the House of Windsor.

In 1929, the Great Depression begins in Canada seeing a massive decline in the Canadian Economy and mass unemployment for the next decade.

1931, Canada passes the Statute of Westminster, attaining full control and sovereignty over almost all of it's domestic, foreign, and defensive affairs. Elevating the the fledgling state to de facto nation status.

1939, Canada formally enters the second world war, joining forces with the United Kingdom, this is the first major foreign policy decision made by the independent Canadian government since gaining control over their foreign policy in 1931.

The End of the Second World War brought economic devastation to the Dominion of Newfoundland. The Dominion no longer able to remain independent, and unable to return to it's Colonial status joined Canadian Confederation as a province after a close referendum. Newfoundland became the 10th Province in Canada's ever expanding Confederating. In addition, as per an agreement struck between the British Government, Canadian Government, and Danish Government Greenland would be purchased by the British Empire and transferred to Canada, where it remains today.

1965, The Great Canadian Flag debate comes to a close, and the Maple Leaf flag is officially adopted as Canada's national flag.

1976 the passing of the Greenland Act establishes Greenland as a distinct territory separate from the Northwest Territories, complete with a separate local government and autonomy.

1982, Pierre Trudeau, as Prime Minister of Canada, introduced the Charter of Rights and Freedoms, enshrining fundamental rights and freedoms in the Canadian Constitution.

1994, following the Charlottetown Accords and the subsequent national referendum the Canadian Constitution was amended to include a series of new amendments know as the Charlottetown Amendments which reshaped Canadian Federalism creating stronger and more independent Provinces, reformed the Senate of Canada, as well as enshrining Quebec's status as a distinct society within Canada.

2001, Canada joins the global war on terror following the September 11th attacks and invades Afghanistan along with a coalition of NATO member states.

2003, Canada joins the United States and United Kingdom in the invasion of Iraq and operations to topple the rouge regime of Saddam Hussein.

2010, following the Great Recession of 2008, Canada recovers faster and in a better position than the United States or any other Western nation, on account of the economic stewardship of the Stephen Harper Government.

2013, Iceland enters into Canadian Confederation, following negotiations between Canada and Iceland, and a local Referendum.

2015, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau comes to power in Canada on a platform of change from the last 10 years of Conservative Rule. Trudeau would bring about a far more progressive style of Centre-Left Liberal politics in Canada that would eventually be cut short. During the 2024 Election Pierre Poilievre would unseat Prime Minister Trudeau brining an end to his near decade of governance.

As of 2022, Canada's GDP is one of the fastest growing in the Western hemisphere, it has a GDP of approximately $2.5 trillion USD.

President Meral Akşener's International Women's Day Address

My noble nation, the heroic Turkish Nation,

Today, as we gather to celebrate International Women's Day, we stand on the shoulders of giants, the indomitable women of Türkiye and the Turkic world, whose valor and vision have sculpted the society we cherish today. It is a profound honor to address you as the second female President of the Republic of Türkiye, a nation that has been a beacon of women's rights and empowerment, not just regionally, but globally. Let us cast our minds back to the early 20th century, a pivotal era when Türkiye, under the enlightened leadership of our Eternal President Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, embarked on a transformative journey. A journey that redefined the role of women in society, and by doing so, the destiny of our nation itself. Atatürk's vision was clear and unequivocal: 'The world is her oyster' and that 'everything we see in the world is the creative work of women'. A vision that resonated deeply within our society, leading Türkiye to become one of the first nations in the world to grant women the right to vote and stand for election as early as 1934. This monumental achievement came at the same time that women around the world continued the struggle for basic rights, this set a precedent that prompted women around the world to question, 'Is our value less than that of Turkish women?'.

This question was not merely rhetorical. It reflected the groundbreaking strides Turkish women were making, strides that were unheard of in many parts of the world at the time. Our country, embracing secularism with unwavering commitment, paved the way for women to achieve unparalleled successes in every sphere of life, from academia to politics, from the arts to the sciences, and every realm of the battlefield in defense of our beloved homeland. In the annals of history, the story of Turkish women is a testament to resilience, intelligence, and strength. It is a narrative that begins long before the establishment of our Republic, tracing back to the formidable Turkic women of the pre-republican era. These women were not just caretakers of their families but also warriors, leaders, and scholars who played pivotal roles in shaping the Turkic tribes' destiny. They were the bedrock of our society, ensuring the survival and prosperity of our people through centuries of challenges and changes. From the mythological leadership of Asena, leading the Turkic tribes to salvation, or the example that Tomris the Great would set out for Turkish women that is still followed to this day.

As we celebrate the achievements of Turkish women, we cannot overlook the contributions of Sabiha Gökçen, the world's first female fighter pilot. Her bravery and skill not only broke the glass ceiling but shattered it, demonstrating that the sky was no limit for Turkish women. Her legacy is a beacon of inspiration for generations of women in Türkiye and beyond, proving that courage and determination know no gender. Moreover, the story of Turkish women's empowerment and success is incomplete without mentioning Halide Edip Adıvar, a novelist, nationalist, and political leader who played a significant role during our Independence War. Her intellectual prowess and unwavering patriotism remind us of the power of words and ideas in the fight for freedom and equality. Alongside her, we remember Afet İnan, a pioneering historian and sociologist, who was instrumental in chronicling the evolution of Turkish society and advocating for women's rights and education. These women, among countless others, have laid the foundations upon which we continue to build a more inclusive, equitable society. In this respect, we also honor the legacy of the first female president, Tansu Çiller, a pioneer who broke the highest glass ceiling in our political landscape. Her leadership and dedication serve as a constant reminder of the heights Turkish women can reach, and the impactful roles they can play in shaping our nation's future. Their contributions across various fields have not only enriched our national heritage but have also paved the way for a future where gender equality is not just an aspiration but a reality.

As we delve deeper into our rich history, we must acknowledge the role of men and women serving side by side in our armed forces, embodying the true spirit of equality and partnership. Since 1940, both men and women have served mandatory conscription in defense of our homeland, a testament to our belief in the equal capabilities and contributions of all citizens in the defense of our nation. In defense of our sovereignty against all enemies, to defend our homeland so that the ideals of our Republic may continue to thrive. Today, as we celebrate the achievement of Turkish women, and the future set build every day for girls across our country, let us honor our Eternal President for ensuring that when the daughter of a mechanical engineer can be elected as President of our Republic. That this election no longer shatters the glass ceiling, that this is a norm in our Republic. May our ancestors take pride in our achievements, may they stand proud in continuing to bless the Turkish Nation, knowing that both the sons and daughters of the Turkish Nation together as one will continue to carry the torch we have inherited that existed before the dawn of time, and will exist along after it!

Ottawa, Ontario, Kingdom of Canada

Violent extremism and terrorism have no place in Canadian Society, North America, or around the world. The designation of terrorist entities under the Criminal Code of Canada sends a strong message that Canada will not tolerate this heinous type of activity, and will do everything in its power to counter the ongoing threat to Canada's national security and the national security of our allies.

In accordance with the values stated above, His Majesty by the Grace of God of Canada, acting on the advice of His Majesty's Government of Canada, does so designate the following organizations as 'terrorist entities' under the Criminal Code of Canada;

(To be read as Organization [Regions of Operation])

3 Percenters [Canada, USA]

Patriot Prayer [Canada, USA]

Atomwaffen Division/National Socialist Order [Canada, USA]

Blue Awakening [Estonia]

Conservative Peoples Party of Estonia [Estonia]

Combat 18 [United Kingdom]

Nordic Resistance Movement [Nordic Realm]

Order of Nine Angels [United Kingdom, USA, Canada, Yugoslavia, and Russia]

Russian Imperial Movement [Russia]

The Base [USA, Canada, South Africa, Australia]

Greenbrigade [USA, Canada, France, Australia]

Wagner Group [Russia]

Based on their actions, each group on this list meets the legal threshold for designation as set out in the Criminal Code, which requires reasonable grounds to believe that an entity has knowingly carried out, attempted to carry out, participated in or facilitated a terrorist activity, or has knowingly acted on behalf of, at the direction of, or in association with such an entity.

The Government of Canada will continue to identify and assess whether entities meet the threshold for designation, regardless of their ideology, as a means to apply significant consequences on these individuals or groups and those that support them.

The President's State of the Union, Summarized

(WASHINGTON, D.C.) -- The State of the Union is now completed. President Kamala Harris took the podium last night before the rare joint session of Congress to deliver a primetime television address on the state of the nation, her accomplishments over the past 12 months, her plans for the next 12 months, and her re-election campaign that will culminate with the general election this November. Her speech tackled many issues, and clocked in at a record 1 hour and 15 minutes, one of the longest in SOTU history, and was generally reviewed positively by pundits who noted the speech's deeply political tone that struck hard against MAGA Republicans and set the likely tone for the 2024 election, which is likely to become the most polarizing in the country's history.

At the start, the President hit domestic issues first, boldly and hard. She discussed the cost of living and inflation, as well as unemployment at the start, making an emphasis on her signature Inflation Reduction Act and the DIGI Act as 'significant accomplishments that advanced the U.S. economy and helped to build up the American middle class and put American families first'. Her rhetoric was reflective of the Harris administration's shift towards the center on economic issues, with the President offering her influential support for Republican-backed tax credits and tax cuts for the middle class and small businesses. "Our goal is to build an economy that works for all of us; an economy that protects American workers, grows American prosperity, puts American families first, and incentivizes American innovation and exploration," Harris said.

Abortion rights and International Women's Day also came as a major priority in the speech. The entirety of the House Women's Caucus, composed entirely of female Democratic members of Congress, appeared in all-white outfits donning badges supporting reproductive healthcare access. The President appeared in the same white outfit, in a break from historic tradition of wearing "standardly formal" outfits to deliver State of the Union speeches. To their jubilation, the President made abortion rights and the "right to personal freedom" as a centerpiece of her speech, stating that "with your vote this November, we can bring in a productive Congress that will support your right to make your own personal decisions". She touted ongoing efforts by Senate Democrats to codify Roe v. Wade in federal law but said the path was going to be "long and hard, but we are going to persevere and see it through, for mothers and daughters across the nation". She also touted federal legislation passed last year that established a federal commission to tackle gender-based workplace discrimination, pay disparities and more and called on Congress to "act now" and support legislation to fund childcare and pre-K programs nationwide.

The border and immigration were tackled next. The President stood by her hard line on the border and her moderate line on immigration, praising bipartisan efforts last year to tackle the border and calling the passage of several key pieces of legislation on border security and immigration reform as a "sign that we can agree that the border needs to be secured in a humane and fair fashion that doesn't separate families and perpetrate human rights abuses at the hands of our own border personnel". She touted her consistent visits to the border in 2023 and 2024, as well as executive actions signed by her administration that empowered border security personnel, mobilized the National Guards of California, Texas and New Mexico, and allocated over $15 billion in aid to states tackling the migrant crisis. She urged Congress to pass the DREAM Act, which aims to grant a pathway to citizenship for Dreamers - immigrants who came to the U.S. illegally as children. "The America we know and love is an America that is built on love, opportunity, equality and fairness, and that extends to children of this nation who grew up here learning our culture, learning our history, and learning our nation - this is our time to offer them a spot in the American Dream as hardworking members of our great country," Harris said. She also called on Congress to back legislation to permanently boost funding for U.S. border security services and to add 3,500 new border officers to the frontline.

Foreign policy came at the rear-end of the list, to the surprise of some in the audience. The President praised the "growing democratic process" in Russia and expressed U.S. support for the coming elections, and touted her administration's successful handling of the Russo-Ruthenian War and the securing of a vital ceasefire agreement that is now widely expected to morph into a larger, permanent settlement and peace agreement in the region. She touted successful efforts to bring down regional sectarian conflict in Iraq under Operation Resolute Defense, as well as U.S. involvement with France in Haiti. She expressed renewed commitments of support for the Ruthenian kingdom and called on Congress to ratify a proposed financial loan agreement that would see the U.S. support Kyiv on its path to recovery.

In wrapping up her speech, the President returned to International Women's Day and named several women trailblazers, including Admiral Lisa Franchetti, the first female Secretary of the Navy, Ketanji Brown Jackson, the first African-American female member of the Supreme Court, Kate Cox, a Texas woman whose efforts to secure an abortion in pro-life Texas hit national headlines, Margot Robbie, the lead star of the 2023 hit film Barbie, Christina Koch, who will become the first female astronaut to leave the Earth's sphere of influence on the Artemis II mission this year, and Dr. Jill Biden, the wife of former vice president Joe Biden, who was appointed to lead the Harris administration's special task force on childcare and education concerns.

"The American Spirit is strong and will not be extinguished," Harris said. "Not now, not tomorrow, not ever. Time and time again, the world has learned of the great influence and the might of the greatest country in the world, the example for democracy, liberty, freedom and prosperity. But this union is not perfect. We must continue waking up every single day, making the conscious choice to defend this union, to defend the flag behind me, and what that flag stands for. As your President, we have raised hell and high water to defend what those Stars and Stripes represent - your right to personal freedom. Your right to be safe in your own communities. Your right to an education. Your right to healthcare. These are the rights I will fight for as your President, this year and beyond."

President Harris finished her speech to chants of "Four more years!" from the Democratic side of the aisle, after which she mingled with members of Congress for a record-breaking 22 minutes before departing the chamber with Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, who recently announced his intention to step down as the Senate's longest-serving party leader.

International AFL games and their results
            March 9th

The AFL has played 9 games internationally this weekend, with many held in cities and countries the AFL has not visited before. Where the AFL has formerly visited the US, UK, China, and South Africa, this has been the first time that all teams have played overseas and the first time the AFL has ventured outside of Australia since 2012 (and the first international pre-season matches since 2008).

The international games have been a great success, with the AFL partnering with international sports broadcasters for their local games. Matches sold out in Ireland, the UK, and the United States, including the Canadian game which was forced to relocate to Texas after the Rogers Centre was not completed in time. New Caledonian and Turkish games had the lowest attendances, but the AFL has stated that the AFL International Pre-Season has 'ultimately been a great success' and that the league is 'looking forward to growing the sport overseas.'

Victorian Minister for Transport Infrastructure Danny Pearson has announced additional funding for road and rail projects in Melbourne's west after new communities and suburbs in the west criticised Labor's inattention to the outer western suburbs last election.

Two new railway stations and a freeway interchange is guaranteed in a $500 million boost in infrastructure spending for the developing suburbs between Melbourne and Melton. The new stations will be at Mount Atkinson and Thornhill Park, located on the corner of Hopkins and Greigs Road and at Paynes Road. A freeway interchange will be built at Mount Cottrell Road, saving residents from having to take a half-hour detour in the wrong direction before being able to get to the city.

The rest of the money will go towards building and upgrading arterial roads, including the connection, paving, and duplication of former dirt roads to be able to handle the influx of new residents. The City of Melton, the LGA responsible for the majority of Melbourne's new outer western suburbs, has recently overtaken the City of Casey in the outer south-east as the fastest growing LGA in the country with the population increasing by 3% each year.

The Victorian Government has also suggested either converting Melton Highway between Melton and Taylors Lake into a freeway or just duplicating the highway in an effort to 'learn from mistakes' in existing growth areas, where residents have complained Labor is waiting too long before expanding or upgrading road and rail networks.

ACT Government releases new planned townships ahead of election
            March 9th

Ahead of the ACT Election in October, the National Party of Australia has put forward a 'town template' to assist with ACT's growing population that would allow new towns to be developed quickly and efficently. The Nationals are set to advertise the cookie-cutter towns as 'a destination location' with 'all the benefits of a country town with the benefits of being within reasonable commuter distance to the city.'

7 new townships will be built around existing railway stations in rural areas in Cookardinia on the Gold Line, Little Billabong on the Sky Line, Kergunyah on the Maroon Line, and in Wantagong, Yarara, Coppabella, and Lankeys Creek on the Green Line. The majority of these new townships will be in the north-east of the Territory and will be slightly adjusted if needed depending on the environment surrounding the new towns.

Each town will consist of a basic grid structure with 6 blocks of 20 residential lots (amounting to 20 in total) ranging from 250 to 450 square metres (townhouses/units to houses) and 24 commercial blocks, each about 200 square metres. These may be merged or used for community or education uses as need be. Each township will have 5 roads perpendicular to the railway line and 4 parallel, with the township centred on a divided boulevard lined with shops (/commercial) and headed at either end by the railway and gardens at one end and a recreation ground at the other. Some townships may have a primary school. Each township will house up to 480 people.

Constitutional Convention approves numerous amendments to the Russian constitution in historic vote
9 March 2024

ST. PETERSBURG | The 2,600-member Constituent Assembly of the Russian Federation approved on Saturday the final draft of what will become Russia’s new constitution. Called by the Russian Council for the Reorganization of National Authorities (Sorenatov) on March 2nd, the Assembly gathered legal scholars, politicians, and representatives from Russia’s ethnic minorities along with international observers and experts to reform the existing constitution. Over the last week, the members of the assembly, led by former Saint Petersburg State University Rector and member of Sorenatov, Dmitry Medvedev gathered on the grounds of the university to deliberate on over eight dozen proposed amendments.

The constitutional convention was initially called in late February, with the Chairman of Sorenatov Grigory Yavlinsky calling for “necessary reforms” to the constitution ahead of general elections scheduled for March 11th and 12th. While some have called for the elections to be pushed back amid the convention, Sorenatov has refused to change the dates citing “legitimacy” and the “sensitivity” of the current political climate. Dmitry Peskov, the spokesperson for Sorenatov said that dates for the general election were “set in stone” and that Russians would be “able to fairly and freely elect their next government”. Elections will be occurring all across Russia, including at the Federal and local level.

With elections looming and many questions raised at the constitutional convention, both domestic and foreign media reported that delegates were holding “marathon meetings and deliberation sessions” throughout the night to cover many of the proposed changes to the constitution. According to one source cited by newspaper Kommersant, one meeting lasted “17 hours with half hour breaks” while another source cited by online news outlet Meduza stated that “overnight meetings have become a common occurrence” and that “many delegates have gotten little sleep and some are irritable.” Despite the apparent shortcomings, the President of the Constituent Assembly, Dmitry Medvedev announced Saturday that the delegates had voted on a final draft that would be released on Sunday.

However, while the full text of Russia’s new constitution remains under wraps, the Russian government published several of the approved amendments online. TASS has compiled some of the most important ones below:

  • The “Russian Federation” will now be formally known as the “Russian Federative People’s Republics''. In fact, the name change has already been officially communicated to the United Nations with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirming the fact that it had sent a letter to the UM Secretary General and other international organizations requesting that Russia’s official name be changed in all diplomatic and international exchanges.

  • New text has been added to the section dealing with individual rights and freedoms. Part of the text was adopted from the European Convention on Human Rights, with the articles written referring to the document and the international Universal Declaration of Human Rights. In addition, it also emphasizes the right for minorities to freely exercise their “language and culture”. A final article deals with exceptions which gives the Federal Government and the Federal Subjects the right to regulate or suspend certain articles during times of emergency, to protect the rights of others, the integrity or security of the state or other extraordinary circumstances.

  • An amendment re-establishes the Federal Parliament of Russia with the Congress of People’s Deputies as its upper house (consisting of delegations from the Federal Subjects) and the Supreme Soviet (consisting of representatives elected by the people).

  • The Assembly affirmed Russia’s status as a “federal democratic republic” under a “presidential system with division of powers between the executive, the legislative and judicial branches of the government.”

  • An additional amendment also lays out specific powers of the President as the head of state and government. It describes the office as the “chief executive of the Federal Government, the supreme commander of the armed forces, and the enforcer of the laws passed by parliament”

  • Additional articles outline the specific powers of each of the three branches of government.

  • The Assembly removed several amendments passed during the era of the Putin presidency, including reducing the presidential term from 6 years back to 4 years, ending post-presidential immunity, and the resumption of the Federal Government’s ability to negotiate the status of territories within Russia.

Other amendments include guarantees ensuring the independence of the judiciary, the abolishment of the State Council (adopted during the Putin presidency and later enshrined within the constitution as an organ of the executive branch), the establishment of the Council of National Development, and the formalization of the Council for the Reorganization of National Authorities. An amendment establishes the latter body as a “provisional governmental body to be formed during times of emergency, war or other extraordinary circumstances”. Currently, the Assembly is considering additional articles concerning the role of the Federal Subjects and the power of the Federal Government, both of which have been contentious issues during the Constitutional Convention.

Despite the issues, the President of the Assembly confirmed that the constitution would be formally completed by the end of the weekend and that following the elections, the elected parliament would be responsible for formally adopting the new document.

Ministry of Agriculture, Land Reform and Rural Development

In recognition of the critical importance of preserving our planet's natural resources and respecting the rights and traditions of indigenous communities, we hereby introduce a comprehensive suite of laws aimed at safeguarding forestation land and tribal lands. These laws are designed to address the urgent need for sustainable management practices, biodiversity conservation, and the protection of indigenous rights in the face of escalating threats such as deforestation, habitat destruction, and encroachment. By enacting these measures, we affirm our commitment to environmental stewardship, social justice, and the well-being of present and future generations."

Forest Protection Act: This law establishes strict regulations on logging, mining, and other extractive activities within designated forestation areas. It includes provisions for sustainable management practices, reforestation efforts, and penalties for illegal deforestation.

Tribal Land Rights Act: This legislation recognizes the ancestral rights of indigenous tribes over their traditional lands. It grants legal title to these lands, protects them from encroachment by outside parties, and ensures the tribes' participation in decision-making processes regarding land use and development projects.

Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) Act: This law mandates comprehensive assessments of the environmental impacts of proposed projects in forestation and tribal areas. It requires consultation with affected indigenous communities and mitigation measures to minimize adverse effects on the environment and local livelihoods.

Conservation and Biodiversity Protection Act: This legislation aims to preserve biodiversity in forestation and tribal lands by establishing protected areas, wildlife corridors, and habitat restoration programs. It prohibits activities that threaten endangered species and their habitats and promotes sustainable ecotourism initiatives.

Community Forest Management Act: This law empowers local communities, including indigenous tribes, to manage and conserve forests within their territories. It provides technical and financial support for community-based forestry initiatives, encourages sustainable harvesting practices, and recognizes the role of traditional knowledge in forest conservation.

NEW FIVE YEAR PLAN ANNOUNCED
11 March 2023
Comisia de Stat pentru Planificare (State Planning Committee)

The Government of Romania has announced a new Five Year Plan for 2024-2028, with a summarizing speech delivered by President Dumitru Ceausescu on the state TV channel TVR. The industrial development plans include setting up new factories to build more and better quality basic commodities for Romania - relying less on imports. Infrastructurally, notable plans were outlined for expanding the Port of Constanta, building more high speed rail with cooperation from the People's Republic of China, and increasing the availability and quality of public transit systems.

Energy policies will focus on the expansion of nuclear energy, with the goal of ensuring the majority of Romania's power is operated by nuclear. Currently supplying 40% of Romania's energy, the new five year plan seeks to make nuclear energy its predominant energy source.

Agriculture policies included are oriented towards collective farming and investments into rural infrastructure and schooling, and more attention paid "to the neglected areas of the Romanian countryside." The affordability and accessibility of countryside homes has been expanded, further undoing the impact of the rural systematization program under Nicholai Ceausescu.

Real estate standards and quality were upgraded. As Romania has nearly eradicated homelessness through its socialist housing policy, standards of living will continue to rise as new more luxurious units are built. Even more generous real estate properties will be granted to larger families to promote its population growth and birthrates - continuing Ceausescu era natalist policies. Neoclassical facades and renovations will be built upon more apartments in the city of Bucharest.

With regards to employment and education, the government is seeking to modernize several of its industries - incorporating more use of automation and AI whilst ensuring the efficient replacement of workers to prevent unemployment and continue development of productive forces. University programs, in coordination with state industry, with full payment are being offered to retransition workers in new industries when necessary. Many investments and expansions are being directed towards Romania's primary and state owned tech company - XC Electronics. Artificial Intelligence capabilities are among one of the things that will be expanded with. Investments will also be made into cybersecurity, both in offensive and defensive capabilities.

Omtzigt unveils new government programs to tackle cost-of-living amid progressive pushback. Will the PM secure the VVD votes needed to pass his agenda?

(THE HAGUE, NETHERLANDS) -- Addressing the Tweede Kamer, Prime Minister Pieter Omtzigt announced a waft of new government programs aimed at tackling the cost-of-living crisis and increasing cost of housing especially in urban communities across the country. The new programs were unveiled by the Omtzigt government, who had reportedly worked with the BBB to draft the legislation. The bill was introduced to immediate pushback from the center-left GL/PvdA of Frans Timmermans, and from the left-wing Socialist Party, both of whom criticized the legislation as being overly conservative and taking the wrong pathways to resolving the cost of living crisis. The PM responded to these criticisms from the progressive wing of his government, calling the proposed programs "common sense" and urging MPs to "vote on their will".

With Frans Timmermans, Dutch Minister for Economic Affairs and Climate Policy, expressing his skepticism that the GL/PvdA will support the legislation, the Prime Minister faces a potential crisis on his hands as he seeks to legitimize his government and prove the integrity of a working majority that backs him as the Netherlands's head of state. The only pathway, pundits say, for the PM to pass his cost-of-living package will be to secure the support of Dilan Yesilgoz-Zegerius's VVD party, formerly led by Mark Rutte and now relegated to the opposition. Yesilgoz has worked closely with Omtzigt on tax bills in the past, and in early January the VVD voted in favor of a series of political transparency reforms aimed at requiring frequent, transparent and total financial discloures by cabinet ministers and the prime minister in a vote for transparency in governance.

Yesilgoz commented on these affairs this morning, telling NOS that she believed there was a "pathway to achieving something here" but said there was "more to be done". NOS later exclusively reported that Yesilgoz had visited Omtzigt at his residence for meetings.

After facing down a possible governmental crisis in mid-February over advancing a pension reform bill out of the exploratory committee stage, Omtzigt's government now faces yet another crisis as they seek to begin implementing their reform agenda, especially on issues like good governance and restablizing the economy.

NEW LOK SABHA BILL INTRODUCED ON THE STATUS OF TWO UNION TERRITORIES

The Union Territories of Puducherry and Dadra & Nagar Haveli & Daman & Diu (commonly called DNHDD) have been a part of India since the former's inclusion in 1963 and the latter in 1961. Both UTs were once part of former colonial nations, the former from France and the latter from Portugal as a part of Goa. However, both UTs are disconnected in their administration, with Puducherry consisting of 4 enclaves (Puducherry, Karaikal, Mahé, and Yanam) and DNHDD consisting of 4 enclaves as well (see the UT name). Such disconnection of both UTs, in the eyes of many legislators, results in unnecessary administrative costs which are passed on to the taxpayer. Additionally, the administrative divisions separating the UTs from the states make administration, commerce, and tax collecting more difficult to do.

While many MPs, even those representating the UTs in question, support such mergers of the UTs into their states, disputes have arisen particularly over how DNHDD should be divided up and merged. For Puducherry, the merger of the UT into its states is simple, with all 4 exclaves being bordered fully by a state: the city of Puducherry itself and Karaikal are to be merged with Tamil Nadu, Yanam with Andra Pradesh, and Mahé with Kerala. For most of DNHDD, some mergers have been approved by MPs as part of the official bill, with the towns of Dadra, Daman, and Diu to be merged as a part of Gujarat. However, the large territory of Nagar Haveli has been in dispute over the states of Gujarat and Maharashtra over which state should annex the territory.

Some MPs have proposed a division of Nagar Haveli between Gujarat and Maharashtra based on linguistic and ethnic divisions, with the primarily Gujarati divisions given to Gujarat, and the Bhili, Marathi, and Hindi districts to Maharashtra. A vote of 1/2 among the MPs of the Lok Sabha is needed for the bill to pass and become law. Should the bill pass, the UTs are to be dissolved and merged into their respective states.
