Major fighting has broken out in the far north of the country as two warlords previously part of the Military Council for National Revolution (CMRN) announced they were leaving the militia group. Clashes between forces loyal to Ahmed Dhakar, forces loyal to Ibrahim Maheed, and those still loyal to the CMRN erupted across the north. Dhakar stated that the CMRN had "lost sight of its goals", which was his reason for defecting. Maheed, Dhakar's rival, cited disagreements in regards to leadership of the northern front of the group. Each faction has fought the other, with tens being killed and thousands fleeing the clashes.
