Other than water, Nagakawa’s most widely consumed drink is tea, of which the most popular variety is green tea (ocha). 1.46kg of tea is consumed annually per capita in Nagakawa, one of the highest in the world- about two thirds of this tea consumed is green tea, produced locally.

Gobōda and Yashiro Prefectures are known for their tea production; Gobōda Prefecture in particular is known as the Tea Capital, and is home to more than 40 unique blends of green tea, like the famous Ryokuji variety, which is notable for its fragrance and low bitterness.
