I think that people dress up in horror story costumes so that evil spirits get mixed up and can't enter the houses.

My mum lived in Cumbira and in the 1980s they had a thing called "mischief night" or something similar, it happened on Halloween
Apparently people would carve turnips (difficult) and cause mischief, hence the name.
Apparently her village council decided to ban it because some teens would continuously remove the church gate and throw it in the tarn
every
year
for some reason

HOOOOOOHOOOOOOO

Why Turnips?

Nigeriao Kingdom wrote:HOOOOOOHOOOOOOO

Why Turnips?

It was a tiny isolated village in Cumbria
The nearest town was (and is) like 5km or so away
They didn't have pumpkins, i's not like they'd go all the way to Manchester (nearest big city) just to get a gourd
Turnips, however
were native to the region

so they used those I guess
