6th form exams aren't piss, I thought they were as did everyone else but they are really not.

I got 90% in my chemistry exam last year and got 20% in the most recent chemistry test.

I got straight A*s in sciences as GCSE so I thought I'd carry on my favourite one for at least a year but physics is a completely different beast at A Level.

In that case you did the old GCSEs. I wish you could see how hard they are now, I looked at a 2012 maths higher paper 1 I could sit it no revision and get an A*, any idiot could, compared to how hard they are now. Ty Michael gove.

My current grades after year 10 mocks

English language: Grade 7 (A) component one, Grade 8 (A*) component 2.
English literature: Grade 9 (A**)
Maths: Grade 5 (we only did half the course at this point and the exams were all three papers covering full course.)
History: grade 8 (A*)
Spanish: Grade 7 (A) (this subject I didn't revise in year 10 and used the time to focus on English, but I still ended up getting the highest grade especially on speaking 65/70)
Physics paper 1 grade 8
Chemistry paper 1 grade 8
Biology paper 1 grade 8 2 marks off 9
Religious studies grade 8 I mark off 9

The silver lining of increased difficulty is that each exam you achieve the top grade in is significantly more valuable than it used to be. If any idiot could get an A* in whatever exam, why should anyone care about that exam? It wouldn't tell you anything at all about someone's academic capabilities if it did not discriminate A candidates against B, C and Fail candidates.

Correct, only they went to the other extreme. Also, they added grade 9 to appease the poshie private schools who said there needed to be more distinction between the highest grades, and a 9 is basically 88% and like 0.2% of everyone get a 9. It's ridiculous and decreases motivation knowing you probably won't get the highest grade. Though, I'm looking at getting a 9 in English lit, history, Religious studies and perhaps spanish.

I did new-style GCSEs in maths and English, old-style in everything else.

I do appreciate that the new GCSE's are harder. I believe you actually kind of need to be able to speak the language to do an MFL GCSE now? When I did mine it was very possible to get an A/A* without actually being able to speak the language.

Edexcel is absolutely horrible.

Why?

Just the way they design their exams. It's all about box-ticking and using their preferred structure, rather than rewarding actual skill and creativity. At least in my experience anyway.

Basically you could know everything there is to know about a subject but not do well on the exam because you didn't use the 'correct' structure.

Our exam board is very similar. 'My way or the highway' seems to be their motto.

Fairly good but slightly anxious about exams in Organic Chemistry and Spanish next week >_>

Ah, organic chemistry. I had several friends in college who were pre-pharmacy/pre-medical students that complained the most about that class. How do you approach studying for it?

And I thought College Board sucked.
