Where are you drawing the idea that I'm arguing for tradition as a reason to preserve religion from? Tradition is neither inherently good nor inherently bad--it's just a habit. If I unintentionally implied that tradition for tradition's sake can be used to justify ideas, I'd like to rephrase.

Maduro isn’t as good a leader as chavez, but they made concessions upon coming to power years ago, and those concessions are hurting them today, much of Venezuela’s elite backed the opposition in the elections and have consistently supported attempted coups against chavezism. Definitely a mistake to tie so much of their economy to oil but they did what they could. The problems in Venezuela’s today have been exacerbated by the criminal sanctions imposed by the bourgeois west

Tying the economy to oil is not a mistake of the Chavez or Maduro administrations, but of the disastrous right-wing junta dictatorship of Marcos Pérez Jiménez and others. Western media definitely love saying that Chavez was a dictator or that he ruined the economy, while he overwhelming won the elections and defended the country against capitalist western coups, and while it was the previous right-wing dictatorship that left the economy in ruins and left Chavez to try to fix it.

I disagree with you wholeheartedly. But beyond my personal disagreement, doesn't that contradict with your very own idea of "keeping the libertarian aspects of individualism"?

Im aware that Chavez didnt start the problem of an oil backed economy, rather that it was a preexisting issue that Chavez didnt properly tackle. However they were in an incredibly difficult position as a revolutionary country in Americas own backyard and despite its issues the life of the working class has been improved,

I feel like developping on what I said earlier a bit so why not.

I will add that there are ways for a collectivist society to give its own answers to questions of libertarian progress if you don't try to take that power from them. Thing is, nothing in itself makes individualistic societies inherently more accepting than collectivist ones. Pre-colonial Corsica (eighteenth century) was already figuring out a way to be inclusive of homosexuality while being a fiercely collectivist nation, and before that, was the first European nation to integrate Jews or let women vote on the national scale before France colonised the hell out of it.

As 503 already mentioned, religion in itself isn't more evil than the means of production, the issue comes with imposing private control over it, then it can be used as a tool to serve the interests of the few. Many clergies have been democratically owned at different times in history, even old school Roman Catholicism had its clergymen elected by members of their parish back in early modern western Europe with things such as the civil constitution of the clergy.

And Ibn Rushd, in my opinion one of the greatest islamic theologian, considered that science or progress was a way to better understand the word / world of God and that refusing to reinterpret our idea of it in this light led to fundamentalism and was in essence a crime of the same nature as apostasy, considering that when facing an apparent problem with religion, our own interpretation were more important's than God's true will, that is expressed in both the state of nature and the texts. Note that "apostasy" here is not simpy renouncing one's religion as fundamentalists would have it be, but renouncing one's religion because of a fundamentalist interpretation of it (there is indeed nothing wrong with becoming an atheist out of conviction).

I guess what I'm trying to say here is just that we have to be careful with the idea that there is one evil thing to target, history might point towards one but it does not mean that its very nature or existance is the problem, because in doing so you will always alienate people who are part of that evil thing and yet mean nothing wrong, and you will end up turning yourself into the new oppressor.

Discarding however one might feel about him, even if he won, he could have done anything. Some minor executive actions that would have been overturned by the archconservative Supreme Court, maybe.

Even if it doesn't technically matter what your stats are, managing them can be half the fun of the game, so there's nothing unusual about wanting to change your classification.

https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/7/72/Updated_NS_Graph.png

Your classification depends on your stats, which is shown in this chart. For example, New Astri has a government-planned economy, but high personal and political freedoms, so it's classified as a Leftwing Utopia.

Guide to Issue Results

How to Improve your National Statistics, Earn Badges, and improve the Bloc!

How to Use the Issue Guide!

Greetings Comrades, and congratulations on taking the first steps to developing not only your nation, but the Bloc as a whole!

This guide will show you the basics of the issue results guide and explain how to look for statistics to improve!

Step One: Load the following link in a new tab in your browser. LinkIssue Results. You should arrive at a page that looks like this:

Step Two: Go to your nation's Issues Page. You will see all the issues currently available to your nation. Each issue will have a name, as well as a number. We'll use this number in the next step.

Step Three: Choose an issue you'd like to see the results and statistics for. In this example, we're gonna pick the first issue available, "Bait and Switch." Now find the issue number for lookup. It can be found to the right of an issue name and looks like "Vol 32, No. 591." For our purposes, only the number is important.

Step Four: Jump back over to the tab with the Issues Results site, and scroll down the list until you find the name and number that matches the issue you've chosen. Click that link. You can also use Ctrl (or Cmd) + F to search for the issue name and number to make it easier on the eyes, and cut down on scrolling!

Step Five: You should now see a page with three columns. The first column contains each of the possible responses to the issue. The second column details the range of statistics change from choosing that response. This is presented as a range of possible value changes, alongside an average. The third column contains how many times that response has changed a particular stat. Higher response numbers indicate generally more accurate average statistics changes.

Step Six: Choose a statistic you'd like to improve. This can either be your own preference, or a target set by the Regional Development Program. In this example, we're aiming to improve our nations Agriculture stat. Scroll down the list of statistics changes for the first response to find the effects on agriculture. In this example, the result from the first option is seen in the picture below!

Step Seven: Repeat Step Six for each possible response for the issue. In this example, we can see that the other option is likely to reduce the Agriculture score.

Step Eight: Choose the issue response that is likely to give the effect you want, and take a look at the results! In this example, it's the first response! However when examining the statistics changes, we can see our Agriculture stat was actually unaffected, but our Trout Fishing Industry grew by 35%!

Some Notes: As we've just seen, the guide isn't 100% accurate and only presents a general view of how different responses will change your nation. As a result, the effects of any one result may not be what you were hoping for. Don't lose hope! Any losses can be recovered, and the guide presents a useful tool for comrades to start shaping their nations!
Additionally, NationStates Issues have an overall normalising effect on statistics, generally bringing them closer to average. This means nations with high scores in a particular statistic are likely to suffer greater declines in score values than rises, and vice-versa for nations with low scores. Keep this in mind when choosing your options!

That's the guide! Thanks so much for reading, and hopefully this was of some help to you! Keep your eyes out for news related to Regional Development, and if you have any questions, please feel free to get in touch!

Read dispatch

You can use this tool to determine how an issue will statistically affect your nation. It's honestly kinda indispensable for trying to get some serious stat change.

Select the options that line up with your desired stats, and you'll get back to a more leftist classification in no time.
