The Democratic Party was formed on May 23, 2020 from a merge of two former parties: the Alliance for the Greater Good and the Centrist-Conservative Party. This new party stands for the combined ideals of both of these former parties.
In national politics, the Democratic Party is mainly interested in having good Political Freedom. We believe that nations should strive to allow their citizens freedom to select a government that best suits their needs. In regional politics, our party believes in keeping the FNF mostly the way it is today: active and happy. We believe in making small, cautious changes to help make the Federation a better place. We will always consult the citizens before making any changes to ensure maximum benefit.
The Democratic Party has two main colours: Azure and Sky Blue. These colours not only compliment each other, but they’re also very similar to the colours of the Free Nations Federation. This represents our party’s commitment to making the Federation the best place it can be, and keeping it that way.
The Democratic Party’s 
flag is composed of a two-colour background and a black globe with grey olive branches around it. The flag’s background is made up of two horizontal stripes, one in each party colour. The globe represents that our party welcomes everyone who would like to join us. The olive branches represent that our party stands for peace, justice, and political freedom.
The Democratic Party is partnered with the Progressive Party, led by Porto Verde in The Democratic Republic.

Our party welcomes all members who wish to join, however party members must respect the party’s code of conduct. This is essentially the same as that of the Free Nations Federation:
Meanness and rudeness are not tolerated. Always be respectful towards members of this party, members of other parties, and everyone on NationStates.
Be fair and courteous. It’s appreciated, and it will help to keep our party safe and friendly for everyone.
Speak up if you believe something is unfair. We listen to everyone’s opinions, and will always take them into account.
All members of the party are allowed to have their own beliefs, and those beliefs cannot be restricted by the party or anyone in it.
Members of the party are not obligated to support other members in government or in belief, but are welcome to do so if they want.
If you want, participate in regional government! It’s a lot of fun, helpful to the Federation, and our party encourages it!
The party’s Chair reserves the right to warn and then kick nations from the party if they violate this agreement.
Follow these simple steps if you would like to join the Democratic Party:
Become a citizen of the Free Nations Federation, if you are not one already.
Send a telegram to the Chair requesting to join the party.
If your request is accepted, you will be added to the list of party members.
If you are on Discord, please join our party’s Discord server in order to participate in official party discussion.
Post a message on any of the FNF’s RMBs stating that you have joined the party!
Please note that party members who CTE or move out of the Free Nations Federation will be removed from the party.
There are a total of five roles available to members of the party. Any member of the party who holds at least one of these roles is considered a member of the party's Leadership Team. See the description of each role below:
Chair: Reserved for the founders of the party; serves as the head of the party; receives membership and leadership requests.
President: Head of the Leadership Team; makes executive decisions within the party along with the Chair.
Speaker: Works to represent all members of the party on a party leadership level; opens up all votes within the party.
Political Strategist: Helps the party plan for regional elections; helps interested members choose what regional government position they should run for.
Regional Government: The role given to members of the party who currently hold a position in the government of the FNF.
Want to hold a leadership position?
Follow these simple steps to become a member of our party’s Leadership Team:
If there is an unfilled role in the party, and you do not hold any other role in the party (apart from Regional Government), ask the Chair if you may become a candidate for the role. An unfilled role occurs if nobody has ever held the role before, or if the previous holder is deemed inactive, resigns, or leaves the party.
If the Chair approves your request:
In the case of the party being unofficial (having fewer than three members), you gain the position!
In the case of the party being official (having three members or more), the Speaker will put up a vote following the guidelines in the next section. If there is no Speaker, then the Chair will do so.
If the candidate receives a two-thirds supermajority of the vote, they win the position.
A vote may be held within the party for one of two reasons: to approve a candidate as a member of the party’s leadership team, or to approve a proposal for changes to the party. In either case, votes must follow the rules highlighted below. These are similar to those of the Free Nations Federation:
All official party votes will be held on the party Discord server in the #voting channel. The party’s Speaker is responsible for managing votes. If there is no Speaker, then this responsibility goes to the Chair.
Votes will run for exactly 72 hours before the vote closes and the results are announced.
To vote, you must be a member of the party, and you must react to the message containing the vote with ✅ for aye, ❎ for nay, or 🆎 for abstain.
If you react with more than one emoji or with an emoji that is not listed above, your vote will be turned invalid.
In order for the subject being voted on to be approved, it must receive a majority of the vote if it is a proposal, or a two-thirds supermajority if it is a candidate for a leadership position.
