Political Parties

There is currently not any party that favors the recreation of the military, and nativism does not influence any active party. All active parties have majorities in favor of anti-Zionism. Elections are held once every five years. Candidates ran in districts until the country began using proportional representation in 1925. The following list of political parties is exhaustive.

Current Parties

Biblical Law Party
Founded: 1884
Ideology: Dominionism, Distributism, Environmentalism, Alter-Globalization
The BLP is a dominionist political party founded during the Victorian Era that supports strict Biblical morality, and as such is the most socially conservative party. While they are a rightist party, they are not the most pro-market party. It has always been a minor party, as its base, consisting entirely of religious fundamentalists, is small, and it's the only active party to have never been the largest in a legislative chamber. The party has never participated in a governing coalition, either.

Liberal Party
Founded: 1844
Ideology: Fusionism, Classical Liberalism, Minarchism, Souverainism
The Liberal Party was founded as the nation's first political party. While the nation had held elections prior to its formation, the Second Party System of the United States of America had influenced liberal candidates to submit a short list of common goals to various newspapers. There were no other parties until its second contested election, by which time the Labor Party had been founded. The party has always been the champion of free markets, usually to an extreme. It is also the strongest supporter of free trade of all the parties. However, due to the nation's broad acceptance of social conservatism, the party is generally not an advocate for liberal social policies. Despite this, it does have a very small wing consisting of Libertarians, Minarchists, and quite rarely, Anarchists, most commonly Paleolibertarian in outlook. It is most popular with businesspeople, particularly urban ones; farmers also tend to support the party, but to a lesser degree. The Liberal Party had a monopoly on power until the 1970s. Following the party’s mismanagement of the economy and subsequent loss of support, most Boringlanders would suggest that a good businessman and a good politician are rarely the same thing.

Labor Party
Founded: 1846
Ideology: Democratic Socialism, Eco-Socialism, Alter-Globalization
Founded in response to the rise of the Liberal Party, the Labor Party originally advocated what is now known as social democracy, but eventually accepted socialism during the 1930s. The Liberal and Labor parties are mostly differentiated by their economic stances; the Labor Party is particularly popular in the lower classes, with a wide geographic distribution. It is also the most popular party amongst the few remaining indigenous Boringlanders that are not fully or mostly integrated into the wider society. Voters are sometimes stereotyped as longshoremen, lumberjacks and fishermen, although that is far from the whole story.

National Communist Party
Founded: 1932
Ideology: National Communism, Environmentalism, Alter-Globalization
Although some abroad assume it sympathetic to the Soviet Union, or some other communist regime, the NCP never had any connections to any communist regime, nor was there ever advocacy for centralized authoritarianism. The party is interested in the nation's well-being in contrast to foreign multinational corporations, subscribing to the idea of alter-globalization. The party softened its economic stances to a degree in the latter half of the 1980s. While it is the party furthest to the left on social issues, it is not socially progressive due to the nation's comparative uptightness. The party mainly competes for votes with the Labor Party, and has a similar base. Its popularity with indigenous Boringlanders rises with integration level, although it still lags behind the Labor Party amongst the integrated. It served as the junior party in the legislative majority coalition beginning with the 2020 election, and after the 2025 election, it became the senior party in the coalition.

Past Parties

Conservative Party
Existence:1854-1870
Ideology:Traditional Conservatism, Nativism, National Mysticism
The Conservative Party was a fairly short-lived party that existed around the time of the United States Civil War. Its influence grew moderately until early 1861, when it came out in support of the Confederate States of America, which fully marginalized and partly fractured it. The party did not die off overnight, however, and was only disbanded once it failed to win any offices in 1870.

Pink Uprising Party
Existence:1969-2021
Ideology:Social Liberalism, Liberal Feminism, Queer Liberationism, Environmentalism
The PUP was a minuscule, urban-centered political party advocating feminism and liberalization in regards to laws on homosexuality. It was founded after a small number of Boringlanders were influenced by far-left groups in the United States. Its economic stances were, despite their obvious differences on other issues, most similar to those of the Biblical Law Party, but slightly more business-friendly. Faced with a lack of headway over several decades, membership began emigrating en masse to friendlier political climates, particularly Canada, beginning in 2011, which led to its eventual demise. Those who remained became a tiny fraction of the National Communist Party. Electoral success at any level was exceedingly rare.
