"Your holiness."
Sun-priest Nur-Ayya na Sibri bowed on one knee, his traditional red garbs dancing across the uncharacteristically dusty floor.
"Rise, Nur-Ayya."
High Priest Zikar-sin's voice thundered through the chamber. The headdress that resembled the Sun shone down on Nur-ayya, but the light was warm and calming. Still, the young Sun-Priest's hands shook.
"I have come with news from the Oracles. The Sun has revealed its will."
Zikar-Sin was unfazed. Nur-ayya had not once seen the High Priest as much as shift in his seat. The only thing that ever moved was his hands-of which even then he never saw them shift.
"Speak, then. Tell me what the Commands of the Sun are."
Nur-Ayya's voice faltered, ridden with anxiety. The headdress began to feel like it was burning a hole in his head. Maybe that was just him.
"You are to take command of the Freehold."
There was more to it than that, but Nur-Ayya couldn't bring himself to finish.
"And this was said by all of the oracles?"
His face felt like it was on fire. Tears welled up in his eyes and he sank to his bow again.
"Yes, your holiness. All the oracles. The Sun demands that we purify the realm and that the Clergy of the Sun oversee it all, with you in charge your holiness."
A single, shimmering tear fell to the stone floor.
"Approach the Throne of the Sun, Nur-Ayya."
He could hardly get his legs to rise, coming up in shaky and ungraceful twitches and jerks. He slowly drifted forward to the Throne, and bowed his head before the High Priest. He was somehow far more comfortable now.
The High Priest rose from his seat effortlessly. Nur-Ayya felt frozen in place.
"Look to the Sun, Nur-Ayya. This is the new dawn we have awaited. You may go."
Nur-Ayya quickly turned and rushed from the room.

"PEOPLE OF THE FREEHOLD!"
From the steps of the Capitol Building, a legion of Sun-Priests stood in perfect uniform lines. The High Priest stood at the summit of the stairs, wearing the ceremonial headdress and donning bright robes of yellow and crimson. Millions crowded at the feet of the stairs in awe as police kept a roadblock border between the Clergy and the people.
"I come before you in the name of the Sun. Your Government has failed you. Your leadership has failed you. Your God has failed you."
The crowd was completely silent. It was a cloudy, cold day, and the wind carried the High-Priests words like airborne seeds, spreading equal parts terror and hope.
"It is time that we embrace the truth. The true light of the Sun!"
The priests began to chant, and the clouds parted in an otherworldly, biblical scene, revealing the great Sun over Nehidu.
"Bow before the one true God! Bow before the Sun!"
The people unwillingly took a knee, fearful of the consequences of refusal.
As the last of the witnesses took to the ground, great banners were unfurled between the high pillars of the Capitol. It was a new dawn indeed.
