February 7th, 1969. Prosperous, Greatly

The General scratched his chin as he walked down the lane to the car, however despite all the welcomes and most notably the surprise that it's no bureaucrat this time - he then opened his mouth to speak "Well, the troops can't do much outside of manual labour and some engineering work of course. And uh.. I can see your government is trying to force modernization, albeit a bit questionable in terms of methods." he scratched his head as to how he should respond to him, being a formal representation of the nation and all "As for kicking modernization to high gear, well that's the task of the companies. Not really me, I'm just an old war veteran who somehow ended up in this tropical land." he took a moment to take in the sights as he looked around in front of the car, "And as for er, my feats. Of course, they're great at least to those who do their research and read but.. let's not get into that, shall we?"

He'd sigh as he thought of the world around him again, before snapping back to the word Lieutenant General and asked "Wait, you said you were a.. uh.. Lieutenant General, yes?" he asked with a curious expression, obviously intrigued due to his lack of knowledge that Greatly even had a standing force. "So you lead.. what, 30,000 to 50,000 men I assume? Sorry for the lack of information, I didn't know that Greatly has a standing army. Let alone my superiors, we were told they had none."

"And military experience, you said?" he asked, even more curious from every word that came out of his mouth as he basked at the sight of a fellow military man "I'm curious as to what sort of engagements and the sort of military education your nation has provided. But nevermind that, we should be focusing on giving the brass above and the government a good first impression." as he approached the car, slowly opening the door to let himself in before then saying "And er, just so you know. Yes, I also find it weird they had someone from the military be responsible for first judging impressions."

February 7th, 1969, Prosperous, Greatly

The vehicle begins driving down the winding, recently-maintained road from the helicopter’s landing site to the city of Prosperous. Marsha ponders Yu’s words as the car enters the streets of Prosperous to the bustling hubbub inside, with many of the residents pausing and staring at the smooth, sleek vehicle as it drives by.

“Well, you must understand that I don’t mean modernization in the standard sense,” he begins, gesturing past the window to a smartly-dressed man arguing with a pale monk handing out anti-Yingguo occupation pamphlets to passerby. “The government’s main focus is on preparing these people for warfare, a concept which to so many of them has always seemed distant and unthinkable. Having a proper military presence nearby should assist in acclimating them to modern conditions, namely, those of war. Also, my apologies if I’m simply a bit overexcited to meet another military-minded man... there’s a bit of a shortage of those types here in this nation.

“And as for my rank, as well as the whole ‘standing army’ thing, it’s honestly a bit of a national embarrassment. Sure, the folks in charge have been doing their best to establish an actual military force, but every attempt to do so thus far has failed rather miserably, and they’ve only managed to scrape together a hodgepodge force of a few thousand. To save face, they’ve decided to scale the standard military ranks down to one-hundredth of their proper power, to keep up the illusion that they’re competent at running an army. In reality, I only control a few hundred troops at best, if even that.

“I’ve only learned what I know from a series of imported textbooks and summers spent with an uncle who used to be a military commander - in Yingguo, actually! In the end, I do hope you’ll be able to normalize the idea of a military presence in Greatly, and who knows? Maybe some day I’ll be more than just a shadow of what my rank truly entails.”

Even though she didn’t have the same friendship as King Oscar III had to Haymitch she couldn’t stop thinking about when she first met him. The thought occupied her mind whilst she finally reached the building and was about to phone Agno that she had arrived.

However just as she phoned Agno, she felt that she had been hit by something on her right arm. She saw a dart which had gone into her arm and she suddenly started to feel ill. A couple of people sprinted to her but instead of helping her they managed to put her in a big, black van. She couldn’t fight back or scream; the dart had injected her with something She knew she was going to go unconscious but she also heard someone speak through the phone. Was it Agno who answered her call? She quietly grabbed her phone and looked at the screen. If it was Agno maybe he could save her...

Agno sighed as the Minister of International Relations reported yet another long-distance call coming in. “Just let it go to voicemail,” they remarked irritatedly, but the Minister had doubts, voicing their concerns and reminding Agno that they had to stay active in international communications in order to rebuild Greatly’s reputation. Agno sighed once again, with great annoyance, but picked up the phone. “Hello?” They remarked, attempting to sound as cheerful as they could.

If it does make the RMB momentarily fall apart, we can simply continue on without notices, and find the posts ourselves.
