The strikes were a heavy blow to Ospu, with the town hall, having stood for over 300 years, now a pile of nothing but rubble. The nearby Tower of Izern, constructed shortly after the Izernian civil war a century ago to commemorate the end of the war, and bring hope to all that such conflict would not be brought to the mainland again, suffered major damage to its infrastructure, with windows smashed, concrete broken, and Akawi memorabilia/artifacts destroyed. Including the strikes at Ospu Airport and the main industrial sectors, 270 civilians were killed as a result, another 1,200 injured. Thankfully, the mayor of Ospu survived the strike, but was hurt pretty badly, with 3 broken ribs and a fractured leg.
Hermade was furious. Very furious. This was an attack on, not just the army, but on its history. He couldn't bear to let Oskland get away with attacking the very first Izernian settlement, and causing a major loss of civilian life. He ordered 6,000 men to defend Ospu, including APCs, Tanks and 5 Helicopters. Furthermore, a mass evacuation plan was put in place, ordering the million civilians of Ospu to leave the city for safety reasons, as the city was now under military governing. All Osklandic resistance within the city was to be wiped out before Oskland could send more men and threaten Izern City.
4 Jakors flew over the Ospu skyline, trying to find any Oskalndic soldiers and fire DIRECT Air-Ground Missiles at them, but before one of them could lock onto a target, a SAM missile locked onto one of the Jakors. Not expecting this, flares were not brought with them, so the pilot attempted to avoid the incoming missile, but to no avail. It struck the left wing and detonated, causing the DIRECT missile attached to the left wing to explode in a chain reaction. The Jakor, exploded in a scene of horror, and the pilot was killed instantly, unable to eject in time. Mere milliseconds later, one of the other Jakors locked onto a group of Osklandic soldiers, and fired a DIRECT missile. It was a perfect hit, as the group if soldiers were eliminated, though the resultant strike caused major damage to the surrounding buildings. Another strike from a missile claimed the lives of 7 more Osklandoc soldiers, and after 4 more misses, the Jakors left to resupply their fuel and missiles.
Moments later, Izernian reinforcements finally arrived, with 6,000 men entering the city, and a huge firefight broke out in the city. It was utter bloodshed, with both sides fighting to reclaim mere streets, and heavy casualties being inflicted. But the Izernian counter offensive wasnt done for nothing, as ground slowly was made, pushing the Osklandics to the ports of Ospu. 900 men left, they surrendered. The IAF captured 130 of them as POWs, and let the rest go free.
The battle left a major scar in Ospu. Bullet holes were littered almost everywhere, and some buildings reduced to rubble. In total, 2,000 soldiers were killed, and another 1,300 civilians caught in the gunfire were also killed. To ensure such a thing would never happen again, Hermade ordered an increased military presence in all cities and coastal towns. Also, there will be heightened naval presence in the waters surrounding the Main Island. To ensure any air strikes would be intercepted, more Izernian SAM missile systems will be set up across the country, allowing for 24/7 defence from Osklandic rockets, which, as seen, are impressively effective and deadly. This will hopefully show that, whilst Izern is a fairly small country, It will fight back.
