Yeah, they fell after 2200 years. Also, I was talking about the roman republic, that never fell. When Octavian took the imperium, he didn't replace the republican institutions. They slowly got reformed to something else, and they survived until today, with Charlemagne, Frederick Barbarossa, the French Revolution, USA, Fascism, and modern democracies being inspired by the Roman Republic.
However, the consuls weren't absolute leaders, there were the senate and other assemblies, and the consuls only ruled for some years, so it's not like having two kings.
Switzerland, Bosnia and the Republic of San Marino have collective presidencies. The head of state is collegial.
Well we do have a parliament with many parties because a 2 party system is for suckers
