Practitioners of Vodou are called “Vodouisants”.

Vodouisants believe in an omnipotent but unknowable Supreme Creator, Bondye. Because Bondye is so distant, Vodouisants love him, but they direct their worship towards spirits—called Loa—who serve Bondye and act as protectors and helpers to humans. Every Loa oversees a certain part of existence. To gain the blessings of the spirits, Vodouisants present offerings to them, as well as engaging in elaborate rituals of music, dance, and spirit possession. Vodou can often be seen in many aspects of Fuseana culture, particularly in the nation’s legendary music and many national festivals, including the Carnival season of Mardi Gras.

Vodou is closely related to other forms found in the African Diaspora on Strangereal. Although popularly categorized as a cult revolving around black magic and demonic worship, particularly in right-wing circles, Vodou is in reality a religion like Christianity or Judaism, and should be regarded as such.

Fuseana Vodou originated among the Kifou People—descendants of the Africans who migrated to Fuseana in search of a new home. It originated in the famous capital city of Capesterre, and has since spread to the rural sugar-producing communes. While originally an exclusively African religion, Vodou is now dominantly practiced by both the African Kifou majority and the French Kadien minority.
