December 31, 2147. Soon to be January 2148.
After everyone had said their parts, the countdown began. What made this hotel unique was that the top floor was like a glass dome, overlooking the Atlantic Ocean and the beach. This meant that the world leaders had the best view possible of the oceanic fireworks, that were to be launched at midnight.
Ariana listened carefully to the words of Chancellor Lysitheia, and King Nicola. Ariana didn't expect the parting words of 2147 to be war plans, and evidently neither did the other guests. However, Ariana smiled, internally promising to keep the thoughts of Kunkenga in mind.
Various other people spoke. Some emotional statements, while some were generic and sappy. Yet they were all much appreciated. From leaders to diplomats to normal guests. Before they knew it, the final minute was upon them, and everyone began counting down.
"Here's to a new year," Ariana told her family, as they looked upon the coast of their country. They could see hundreds of onlookers on the beach, drinking and partying just as they were on the roof. Righteous stared blankly at the dark skies before asking: "Mom. Are we going to war?" The question took Ariana by surprise.
"I'm not sure," Ariana said. She really wasn't sure. She didn't think the Carolinas should get involved in this situation, especially considering how powerful a nation like Ventus Prime really is. But... if push came to shove.
"I hope not." Righteous sighed.
"HAPPY NEW YEAR!" The room roared. Immediately afterward, fireworks shot from the floating boats, filling the sky with hundreds of bright colors. Glasses clinked together in celebration and unity. Though, there was a feeling of uncertainty that clouded Ariana's mind, and what she assumed to be the minds of other leaders as well.
Yet, Ariana took a deep breath, and sighed. She didn't want these feelings to cloud her judgment this year. She turned to the party guests. People she had known for years, or she had just gotten acquainted with.
She wasn't a fortune teller, so she wasn't certain what was going to happen. But if anything, she wanted to make sure she maintained relations with the countries NUC was close with.
