I have a deep dislike for the system of Barbaric 'Common Law', on which Anglosphere countries tends to establish their legislation in opposition to the Roman 'Civil Law', for two reasons: a jury is mob rule, not a fair authoritative ruling; and the legal system ends up being a jumbled complex of mutually contradictory rules, based not on the letter of the law, but on the precedents of previous cases. It's like angry mobs being rules by the angry mobs that came before them.
