"Commander Parsio sir, here are today's inventory reports. Is there anything else I can assist you with?"

"No thank you Private. Dismissed."

The private saluted the base commander and leaves the room. Parsio looked over the top of the inventory report. He placed them on the side of the desk, decided to go eat lunch and grab a coffee from the cafeteria before looking through it. He exits his office, goes to the cafeteria and orders lunch. Parsio make his coffee before grabbing his order and returns to his office. He sits down in his office chair about to eat his food when-

ring ring ring

The office phone started ringing. Parsio sighed and placed his sandwich down. He picks up the phone.

"Commander Parsio speaking."

"Commander, please report to the Green Room."

The Commander was confused. The Green Room? That was for emergency communications only. Parsio quickly took a sip from his coffee, scarfed down half his sandwich and made his way to the Green Room. He enters and locks the door behind him. The Green Room isn't anything high tech or special. It was a conference room with a large computer monitor on the wall. As soon as he sits down, a video call comes in on the computer. Parsio answers.

"Commander Parsio speaking."

A man on the screen takes off his coat in a hurry. "Hello Commander, I apologize for the sudden call, but it is urgent."

"What is your name?"

"My name is Raffaele Urso, radiologist at the Terieti Radiology Research Center. Two hours ago, we had detected a major spike in radiation levels. We had assumed it might have been a standard nuclear test, but we triangulated the source of the detonation. It appears a nuclear device was detonated somewhere 50 miles from the Kurzak city of Verdantia. There is now a possibility that North Vapia will be hit with fallout being spread via weather patterns in the next few hours."

"Does the capital know about this?"

"They knew something happened, but they had contacted me first to get more accurate readings. I am calling them after we hang up, but I called you first to warn you."

"Thank you Mr Urso, please inform the capital now. I will do what I can from here."

Parsio hangs up the phone and immediately rushes too the Base Control.

30 minutes later

Sirens across Lapadua suddenly start to wail, as the Vapian Nuclear Forces began to deploy to the northern border. Their task was the prepare the local population to deal with radioactivity, or to evacuate the civilians from the area. In the capital, the Royal Government was already issuing statements, and the news had begun reporting.

"The Vapian Government has issued a statement condemning the Kurzakstan Commonwealth government for its usage of a nuclear device in its offensive against rebel factions, stating that resorting to nuclear attacks endangered Vapian civilians who lived in the northern frontier. Nuclear disaster forces were deployed to North Vapia soon after the detonation, along with Itallitopian and Danyergian advisors. Weather analysts are determining the course of the nuclear fallout and should have information soon."
