I think it’s just easier to portray an evil church with the Catholics and the fanaticism they display in popular culture.

(It's...not entirely historically accurate, with vampires, demons and magic. Also, Dracula having electricity in his castle that can teleport while the common folk haven't even heard of toilet paper. When people think Religious Eastern European Church, they think Catholics with their titles and robes and corruption, for that time period.

And yeah, but it's pretty annoying realizing just how utterly out of place for where+when the supposed setting is and apparently without a decent in-universe explanation for that fact. I haven't even watched and don't plan to watch this show, but since that was brought to my attention it has bugged me.)

Dracula was a man of science, and considering his immortality, it isn’t out of the question he could’ve invented things early. It was also mentioned that it was simply technology lost to humans that they once had, as humans forget and die.

I can’t recall the lore I have in mind for Versilia, but Akeldama has lived since before Rome became noticeable on a map and lived in Europe for at least 75% or so of her life, so she couldn’t draw attention to herself. I reckon she lived isolated in a keep in the Caucasian or Carpathian mountains, wherever would be easier. Also the whole barely aging thing, lack of family, lovers fading like dust in the wind and the impossibility of converting others into vampires. I feel like Akeldama is more broken or tired inside than anything.

(I was more ranting over the Church but ,eh, fair point I guess. Ancient Egyptian batteries were a thing, although I think they mainly used them for acid to smooth out stonework which was aided by all the mining and quarrying they were doing. Plus Romans had some idea of the steam engine, but it was never really utilized because slaves were cheaper than creating and using the machinery involved with making effective use of steam power.)
(Yikes, honestly surprised that alcoholic or something similar in nature isn't on her trait list at that point.)

Akeldama is smart enough to know that overdrinking would be detrimental to both memory and basic functions. She wants to keep both. In the last century she’s probably gotten somewhat better since vampires are able to be open, however considering she’s... different and how long she’s lived already I’m not sure how much good it’s done.

(Good on her. Figure it'd be pretty darned easy for a practically immortal being in that type of situation to fall into such a rabbit hole, trying to escape the worst parts of their own reality and picking up allot of new problems along the way.)

I will probably need to expand upon Akeldama’s past in Georgia, Slovakia or somewhere else along the Carpathian or Caucasian mountains, depending on where she resided. How she lived, came to be there, how many people she lost... it’ll help better her story and character. I hope it will also help me roleplay her better.

It’s... difficult to maintain one’s spirit when everyone you know and love ages, dies and fade from memory while you remain unchanged. Akeldama can’t remember her earliest centuries, her memory has limited capacity.

Strange. I enjoy it nonetheless.
