The Free Land of Grue is a titanic, genial nation, renowned for its daily referendums, vat-grown people, and stringent health and safety legislation. The compassionate, democratic population of 14.832 billion Grueans enjoy extensive civil rights and enjoy a level of social equality free from the usual accompanying government corruption.

The enormous government juggles the competing demands of Education, Healthcare, and Administration. It meets to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Grueville. The average income tax rate is 88.9%, and even higher for the wealthy.

The frighteningly efficient Gruean economy, worth a remarkable 1,807 trillion Grue Dollars a year, is driven entirely by a combination of government and state-owned industry, with private enterprise illegal. The industrial sector, which is quite specialized, is dominated by the Information Technology industry, with significant contributions from Tourism, Book Publishing, and Basket Weaving. Average income is an impressive 121,839 Grue Dollars, and distributed extremely evenly, with practically no difference between the richest and poorest citizens.

The nation has an international reputation for compassion, the government puts forth the claim that harming young girls is wrong, fifteen-year-olds cannot walk younger siblings to school without a professional Childcare and Education Certificate, and government negotiators never forget to say "pretty please" when begging for custody of its criminals. Crime is totally unknown, thanks to a capable police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. Grue's national animal is the Manatee, which frolics freely in the nation's sparkling oceans.
