The enormous, moralistic, socially-minded, well-organized government juggles the competing demands of Law & Order, Defense, and Administration. The average income tax rate is 62.3%, and even higher for the wealthy.

The sizeable but underdeveloped Obsequiumian economy, worth 2.59 trillion yokes a year, is quite specialized and led by the Information Technology industry, with major contributions from Trout Farming, Basket Weaving, and Woodchip Exports. State-owned companies are common. Average income is 30,875 yokes, and distributed extremely evenly, with little difference between the richest and poorest citizens.

They say insanity is torturing the same citizens over and over again and expecting a different result, genetic research is facing major headwinds, the right to a fair trial was recently abolished for reasons of convenience, and five year olds are carried away after losing lambball games. Crime, especially youth-related, is totally unknown, thanks to a very well-funded police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. Obsequium's national animal is the lamb, which teeters on the brink of extinction due to widespread deforestation.
