The Flu Epidemic of Walking Dead is a gargantuan, cultured nation, remarkable for its free-roaming dinosaurs, public floggings, and frequent executions. The hard-nosed, cynical, humorless, devout population of 14.666 billion walkers are kept under strict control by the oppressive government, which measures its success by the nation's GDP and refers to individual citizens as "human resources."

The large, corrupt, moralistic, well-organized government juggles the competing demands of Law & Order, Administration, and Education. Citizens pay a flat income tax of 58.1%.

The thriving brain-eating economy, worth a remarkable 1,064 trillion brains a year, is driven entirely by a combination of government and state-owned industry, with private enterprise illegal. However, for those in the know, there is a large, well-organized, quite specialized black market in Uranium Mining, Retail, Furniture Restoration, and Basket Weaving. The private sector mostly consists of enterprising ten-year-olds selling lemonade on the sidewalk, but the government is looking at stamping this out. Average income is 72,602 brains, with the richest citizens earning 9.8 times as much as the poorest.

Jaywalking is punishable by public flogging, college students make ends meet by selling their kidneys, nerdy teenagers have to prove that they're made of the same stuff as their grandparents, and religious classes are compulsory for all school students. Crime, especially youth-related, is totally unknown, thanks to the all-pervasive police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. Walking Dead's national animal is the zombie, which teeters on the brink of extinction due to widespread deforestation.

Walking Dead is ranked 267,324th in the world and 16th in Zombieland for Most Beautiful Environments, with 98.9 pounds of wildlife per square mile.
