Prydania
The Kingdom of Prydania commonly called Prydania, Prydansk, or Prieden, is a semi-constitutional monarchy located in northeastern Craviter. It is bordered on the north by the Pale Sea, on the south by Kings' Lake and the Empire of Norsia, by the east by the Empire of Malor-Kanada, and on the west by the Auburn Strait and the Republic of Korova. Prydania covers 135,114 square kilometers and has has an estimated population of 18,564,497. Prydania comprises of fifteen provinces, one historical Grand Thanedom, five historical Thanedoms, and one historical Protectorate.
The Kingdom of Prydania was re-established in 2017 following a brutal fifteen year Civil War that saw the end of the Syndicalist Republic of Prydania. The country has since been attempting to rebuild both its infrastructure and economy, which has been accelerated thanks to foreign aid from Saintonge, Norsia, Goyanes, Malor-Kanada, Predice, Midir, and Mouxordia.
Prydania's recovering agricultural industry has proven to be vital to the nation's recovery, helping Prydania once again position itself as a food exporter on the world's stage.
The name "Prydania" is derived from the Bayardi name for the land, "Prieden," which is derived from a proto Malorian-Bayardi term meaning "the land of the green ones."
"Prieden" was interpreted as "Prydansk" in the Old Andrennian spoken by the viking settlers who arrived under the command of Hróarr Loðbrók.
"Prydania" emerged as the standard Mercanti form of the nation's name.
The standard way to refer to a citizen of Prydania is as a "Prydanian."
Prehistory
The earliest known evidence of human habitation of the land now known as Prydania are human footprints dated from 800,000 years ago in the lowlands east of the Kanadian border. Traces of early human settlement have been found in central Prydania from 500,000 years ago, with evidence of the first anatomically modern humans appearing 30,000 years ago.
Mainland Prydania was connected to the island of Stormurholmr as early as 8,000 years ago by a lowland marsh that was flooded at the end of the last glacial period. This was caused by melting glaciers and the subsequent isostatic rebound of the planet's crust.
The Bronze Age inhabitants of Prydania were Yeran and Aed Kaene, with Yeran civilization stretching from what is now the border of Malor-Kanada to central Prydania, and the Aed Kaene living amongst the dense forests central and eastern Prydania and Stormurholmr.
