The overall geography of the Austro-Germanic Union can be called largely complex. Situated on eastern Usonea, it calls the central peninsula it’s own, and is bordered on most of its sides by the Erinevo Ocean. Aside from that, it features the prominent Hösten Isthmus that divides the eastern and western parts of the mainland. It’s climate can be called rather temperate, featuring a relatively cool climate that marks temperatures of 24.4-25°C, Allowing for a gentle but relatively stable climate, seeing frequent precipitation in the summers and winters. For said summers the temperatures can rise to 26.6-28.8°C, often thawing out much of the colder areas. And for the winters, they can often find themselves dropping regularly to temperatures below freezing for extended stretches of time. While it can thaw out to temperatures as high as 14°C, it typically rises no more than 5°C. These frigid temperatures are fed by cool ocean currents, but can typically give way rapidly once the seasonal currents shift. The prominent feature is the Salichen Mountains, a stretch of mountains that often run through the peninsula, and feature year round snowfall and frigid temperatures, and come carrying the highest elevation, being the peak of the Dufourspitze, which climbs to 4,634m in height. The lowest point is near Nuendorf-Sachsenbande, in the Hösten Isthmus. This low point has been measured at 3.54m below sea level, and is actually intersected by the Mittelmark Canal. Aside from these high and low points, there is also the relatively flat/level stretches of plains, prairie, and grasslands to the west, which feature the massive waterway of the Valbrecht River, which runs through the country, and is fed by the Salichen Mountains, and empties into the Erinevo near the city of Freidrichshaven.

This river is noted for its depth and length, and it being reinforced as it flows through the Hösten Isthmus, as in the past it was threatened to have it lose half of its length as it was dangerously close to breaking its banks and beginning to empty out from the Isthmus. The subsequent reinforcements to the ground and the surrounding infrastructure have mostly led to the end of the Mittelmark Canal’s existence, but has secured the water security of the peninsula proper and chunks of the economy through the Mittelmark Artificial River Bank. A sister river is also noted in branching out and emptying in the north, being extremely wide but shallow, being regarded by many names before its current moniker of the Grasnau. The final major geographic features is the extensive forests, having been protected extensively since the 19th century, and recovering from extensive logging in the previous centuries. While these forests vary from the more evergreen and conifer dominated forests near the mountains, to the temperate and deciduous forests that dominate the lowlands. Often seen is the stretches of untouched old growth forests, such as the Black Forest and the Bol Forest, both feature some of the largest remaining trees in the nation.

Demographics

Population

The Austro-German population is quite large. Despite all the instability and civil war that is still in recent memory, those who possess Austro-German citizenship number at roughly 150,000,000 according to estimates done in 2056, but the number is certainly larger given how outdated said statistics are. Given the diverse ethnic makeup of the Austro-Germanic Union, a single ethnic majority is difficult to discern, but when it comes to ethnic groups, it’s clearly that the Germanic peoples hold the firm majority, in both current times and history. However, you also have Slavic peoples make up major populations, with regions dominated by Slavic customs and traditions compared to the traditional Germanic practices found in most of the Imperial Federation.

There are foreign populations however, foreigners who either came here for a new life, fled persecution, or other distinct reasons. These populations are mostly from fellow Pax Havenicia member states, but also see regular intermingling from 5 Kingdoms of Britannia, due to the close ties and close proximity of the British and Austro-German states. Another example are some 400,000 peoples who were from a now defunct nation, who fled persecution and genocide. Though they have at this point dispersed across the union, but past demographic studies showed them clustering to the coasts and in the major shipbuilding centers of the Austro-Germanic Union

Language

The most prominent language is german, as it is the national and official language of the federation, due to the fact that the Imperial federation is a german State, however, this is far from the only language, but it is taught in schools as it’s the language of trade and government, as it serves as the Lingua Francia of the nation, but because of the various ethnicities, the populace is nearly entirely bilingual, with people knowing german, and also the language of their house.

The most prominent language after german is Polish, as the union has integrated Poland as a Kingdom, with it being the largest member state of the union, and after that, it’s italian, with its prevalence in the south, then Czech, and then Dutch.

Religion

The Union is seen as predominantly Christian, with recent surveys show it having, in all forms roughly 73.4% of the population identifying with it. However it’s also become in the Union very diverse, with roughly 4-5 different sects present. It is known that Protestantism has the lions share of the populace, with it being predominantly present in the northern areas, while Catholicism is primarily present in the south, but there is also the Eastern Orthodox Church, with it being dominant in the eastern areas, while reformed Christianity is present in the west most of all, but scattered pockets of the faith is present throughout the union.

Government

The Austro-Germanic Union is a constitutional monarchy with the government decided into 3 branches; The Executive Branch, the Judicial Branch, And the Legislative Branch. This is to prevent one part from dominating the others, and to balance the powers.

- The Executive Branch is divided into two parts: The Monarch, which is the Kaiser or Kaiserin, and the Reichskanzler (Chancellor). Political power has been split between the two positioned

The Kaiser, who isn’t elected and serves for life has political power, which separates the union from other monarchies in Europe, where the monarchs serve as figureheads.

the Kaiser can pass Imperial decrees, which usually need the approval of the Prime Minister to pass, but they also can bypass the need for the Prime Minister to issue approval, and require the parliament to get a 3/4 majority for it to pass, and when they do, they face considerable scrutiny from the Grand Courts, Who can nullify them if they prove to be Unconstitutional.

The Prime Minister, Who is Elected by popular vote for a term of 4 Years, where they can serve for a total of 3 terms, holds most of the Executive power. The Prime Minister signs into law the laws and bills that get approval from the parliament, but can also veto them.

The Legislative Branch is the Parliament, which is made of representatives elected from the duchies and kingdoms. Representatives serve for 2 year terms and for two terms. They create and ratify laws, and can override a veto with a 3/4 majority vote.

-The Imperial Court serves as the Judicial Branch of the Union, holding significant power to scrutinize laws, and has the powers to strike laws down as unconstitutional if needed. Judges that preside over the Imperial Court are elected for life, and are elected by parliament.

The citizens of the Union, are subject to four levels of government: federal, state, and local.

-Local Government: Administers police and fire forces, as well as other public works. Protects private property rights.

-State Government: Simply put, They control a state of the Union. They have limited power, and they vote for the Prime Minister of the Union, which, their vote for Prime Minister is chosen by the Citizens.

-Federal Government: To simplify it, The Federal Government chooses who becomes a government official, by a official voting by all federal government officials, which are elected by the states they are in.


Foreign Relations and Military

The Austro Germanic Union holds the position as a significant regional power in eastern Usonea and the Emerald Sea, it is a longtime member of Havens League, an observer state of the LUN, and the head of the UEC.

The Union divides its military into the Luftwaffe, the Kaiserliche Marine, and the Heer, where they see close cooperation with the Luftwaffe to provide air support.

Economy

The Imperial Federation is linked together by a vast network of metro stations and subways, these metros use advanced maglev bullet trains to facilitate one of the most expansive networks of mass transit in strangereal, with the massive industrial complexes being linked together with the subways, making them completely underground,

While most residents use the metros for long distance travel, most rely on the expansive network of public buses, trams, and taxis, as there are strict regulations on automobiles in the cities as to reduce carbon emissions, air and noise pollution, and traffic congestion

Energy

The Union is notable for being mostly clean in terms of energy consumption, as the use of renewable energy has dominated the energy generation, and nuclear power dominates the various clean energy sources as well. With the union relying mostly on nuclear power, but it has specifically used Thorium reactors as the nuclear power plant of choice, with them being far safer, and more efficient in generating power, and also the fact that thorium doesn’t need to be enriched like uranium, and is 4 times more prevalent in the earths crust than uranium as well, driving costs of these plants down even further.
