Dam, my team is that bad, btw how Manchester city won almost all its match?

With all this talk of racism and it’s unfortunate existence still in this time. It reminds me of a theory I once read. That in about 100,000 years time there might be this great “averaging”. Where every human is roughly similar in appearance, an average of all the things that make us different today.

I found a summary from an australian museum article:

A grand averaging?

Many geneticists claim that something new is happening in human evolution - something along the lines of a 'grand averaging' of our species. Basically, we are becoming more alike.

Human evolution relies on the differences in our genes and in our ability to pass on these genetic differences (ie our breeding capabilities). Over time, the population should change as these differences become more apparent. If the genetic changes are great enough, a new species will arise. However, the three components required for evolution to occur - variation, natural selection and geographic isolation - have more or less disappeared from the equation.

Humans can be considered a single genetic 'continent' - meaning that the world's population is mixing and is no longer just breeding within cultural or ethnic groups. It is suggested that, given enough time, the human race will start to look more and more alike, becoming the 'average' of all the current different physical appearances.

This makes me think, could racism as we know it become “extinct”? Will the biggest physical divide between us be cultural dress or disability? What will bigots latch on to? Xenophobia perhaps? Or will there be a human purists vs cyborgs thing, a whole new category of different?

But imagine being 17 and singing and dancing that well, opening Eurovision with the whole world watching, slaying it live with such good energy, and making it through. Go Silia 🇨🇾🇨🇾🇨🇾

and I also must say I’m mostly satisfied with the qualifiers as well, rip Luna

Also it’s funny how everyone making a Eurovision dispatch has a different idea of what the thumbnail of a Eurovision video should look like, mine is probably the messiest 😬

were Muslims considered more progressive? where did you see this?

Well, I believe that Western Society grew, developed and enriched itself through secularism, things that the most radical Islamists tend to repudiate, as they find this model too "Eurocentric" and too "Westernized" and I think this is one of the major problems of predominantly Islamic countries, Islam still has an overwhelming presence in their politics.
for exemple, Tunisia and Jordan are great examples of secular governments in the Islamic world, I like them.

"I think Christianity is also incompatible with Western society." It's a joke, right? haha so funny

The West enriched itself through exploitation, oppression, bloodshed and the destruction of the non-western world. Secularism didn't just spawn factories and fair treatment of workers.

The West also helped install reactionary conservative forces in almost random drawn borders to destroy the Ottomans. Also don't forget what the UK was doing in Iran and the conditions that allowed for the Revolutionary Council to get to power. You can't blame the victims of the West for their anti-Western views, especially when the West benefitted greatly from it to shake up power balances in their favour.

This is just a one sided argument. While yes, most of these things are true the West also was quite progressive and invented many great things, such as the Wi-Fi you have probably used to type out that message.

I think the media is mostly responsible for mixing up people’s views of the West. I think if you generally read a few history books you would find very different opinions about the west.

im in WA now yay

Apabeossie wrote:But imagine being 17 and singing and dancing that well, opening Eurovision with the whole world watching, slaying it live with such good energy, and making it through. Go Silia 🇨🇾🇨🇾🇨🇾

I personally can’t say she’s been slaying. I was very bored: mediocre opening of the show, mediocre entry by Cyprus. It felt like she’s been singing for 20 minutes :(

And being 17 is not a reason to impress me 😬 there were better young singers before, like Kristian Kostov

I'm a Sociologist studying postcolonialism for my thesis 🥴 It's kind of like I only read books on this topic?

The West's "progressiveness" has to be defined as well, otherwise I'll assume it means white people got more rights and other folks can enjoy 1.90$ an hour working in sweatshops and mines so we can overconsume cheaply and endlessly 🤙
That's if Frontex doesn't beat them when they try to flee from the abhorrent conditions that is caused by wars or unfair trade policies choking out opportunities to feed a family

It's possible to be grateful for things while not being fond of the people who invented them.

I'm grateful for how connected our world is via telephones, I don't have to like Alexander Graham-Bell to do that and I don't like him because he was in favour of eugenics for the deaf.

Leblancroux wrote:Sorry, I was agreeing with you, until now

This was in the US specifically, so ignore the authoritarian Islamic regimes that don't represent Muslim people for a moment. US Muslims are far more likely to vote Democrat (about 66% of them) than US Christian evangelicals. This is a natural thing that will happen with any minority group when the alternative party starts demonising them.

It's also been found that US Muslims as a whole are far more open to the idea of LGBTQ+ rights than a large portion of US Christians are.

Leblancroux wrote:"I think Christianity is also incompatible with Western society." It's a joke, right? haha so funny

That was comparative. If Islam is apparently incompatible with the West because as an institution it takes issue with LGBTQ+ rights and democracy/free speech, then so must be Christianity which does the same.

In both cases, it doesn't matter what the institutions think because many Muslims and Christians don't agree.

"How will I communicate and sell my phones to them?" - Graham-Bell probably
