Question of the Day #226: What is an extremely minor hill you will die on?
GIF is pronounced like JIF. That's its explicitly intended pronunciation. G isn't inherently hard before I in English (giant, giraffe, ginger, etc.). Just because the word the G stands for has a hard G sound doesn't mean the acronym has to (The P in JPEG stands for Photograph, yet you wouldn't pronounce it JFEG). Just because a pronunciation is popular doesn't necessarily mean it's correct or intended (e.g. the increasingly common pronunciation of epitome as "eh-pi-tohm" instead of "eh-pi-toh-mi").
