The enormous, corrupt, moralistic, socially-minded, well-organized government is primarily concerned with Defense, although Education, Industry, and Administration are also considered important, while International Aid receives no funds. It meets to discuss matters of state in the capital city of The Lair. The average income tax rate is 80.1%, and even higher for the wealthy.

The thriving First Nightmarean economy, worth 976 trillion heads a year, is driven entirely by a combination of government and state-owned industry, with private enterprise illegal. Crime, especially youth-related, is totally unknown, thanks to a well-funded police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. First Nightmare's national animal is the Mutant, which frolics freely in the nation's many lush forests.
