The Wellspring

The National Laurinden Forest and Logging Agency (NLFL) would like to acknowledge the good intentions of GA#291, which was drafted and passed under. The environment is a major issue that must be dealt with. However the NLFL would also like to acknowledge that GA#291 does little to address the problem of deforestation and climate change in any meaningful way, but instead tears down smaller nations in need of resources with little to no understanding of local ecosystems.GA#291 has its heart in the right place but its policies and agency have done nothing but tear us down.

The biggest culprits of wasteful deforestation are larger nations that, under the effects of GA#291, began to import logging from neighboring non-member nations. Laurindas, being a small nation with little connection outside The Wellspring, does not have this liberty and now is in a severe lack of wood and wooden products. The NLFL having to contend with the World Assembly Forest Commission (WAFC) for months to collect the resources from only a few acres is not helping.

Laurindas already has a struggling economy, scoring only a 7.38 on the Krugman-Greenspan Business Outlook Index. Our Timber industry, if left to the regulation of the NLFL could empower the Laurindan economy, and revive the artisan industry; not to mention the homes that could be built and infrastructure that could be reinforced for the betterment of the nation. This empowerment will reinforce Laurindas and the entire wellspring, as we have more access to the resources we need to thrive without huge tariffs.

Finally, the ecosystem of Laurindas has yet to see improvement after the passing of GA#291. Laurindas is a tropical nation, full of large and dense jungles. Even if we tried, the needs of the Laurindan people could not deplete the natural resources these forests provide in any meaningful way. Laurindas also has a large fey population. Without the ability to cut down where it is needed, wood nymphs and wood gnomes have taken over the homes of other fey and/or Lauridan citizens. This has caused an increase in homelessness and displaced ecosystems as unruly trees that cannot be removed encroach on land that is already being used. The woodland fey do not need this land and just enjoy having borders as large as possible, and according to the WAFC, there’s nothing we can do to stop them.

The NLFL is discouraged over the fact that out of those who have voted more than half of The Wellspring at the time of writing has chosen not to repeal GA#291. Laurindas encourages all WA member nations of The Wellspring to review the arguments presented here and reference them against their records and with their respective agencies. Laurindas believes repealing GA#291 will only benefit The Wellspring and its endeavors.
