RP: NEWFORTRESS ATTACK STATEMENT
It is in our interest that the official United Oceanian Airforce and Air fleet arm release a official statement regarding the devastating Newfortress attack.

We are in belief that the failure to intercept the plane was result of a fatal human error. We have decided to release our version of events to the public for clarity purposes.
March 11th 2130
8:22pm - suspected time of takeoff

8:45pm - detected by military radar

9:11pm - detected by local airport radar, attempted contact 5 minutes later (no response)

9:31pm - enters oceanian airspace

9:32pm - local airbase notified, fighter scramble initiated

9:35pm - fighters are ready, however darker conditions and bad weather conditions hinder the operation

9:38pm - fighters up in the air

9:40pm - fighters make visual contact with the jet

9:41pm - fighters attempt to contact the jet, jet appears to manoeuvre to reach eastern portion of the city

9:43pm - suspected time of drop, long range missiles launched at the plane

9:45pm - plane shot down, explosives hit the target

We are still attempting to gather data to piece together what went wrong, we are most likely to place all present at Newfortress AFB under review, we are under the suspicion that foul play may have been involved in the attack, our greatest condolences to those who have lost loved ones in the attack. We will not falter as a nation.

"I would like to say to you all I am disheartened at the recent attack on Newfortress. However I would like to say, we vow revenge, we will never let this happen again. Never, ever.
And, to those around the country, I would like to declare this day a national day of mourning, to remember those who perished in the attacks."

In the wake of the 2130 election in the Commonwealth and the Newfortress attack in Oceania, Secretary Khaarchaana Kulanova made an appearance on the Time Will Tell show as part of a discussion panel alongside journalists, authors and Deputy Leader Alzhbeta Navumčyk of the Communist Party. Whilst both Kulanova and Navumčyk expressed a cautious optimism for the future of the Commonwealth and the commencement of the Second Five-Year Plan, the panel took a very sombre turn when Kulanova was asked why Batakhovia had rejected its invitation to New Islesia. The Secretary of Foreign Relations was quoted as follows:

"...Frankly, the prudently conciliatory approach we maintained with both Westminster and New Islesia was met very coldly by all parties involved; by certain members of our own Party, by our mutual colleague Comrade Vakhromeyev, by members of the Batakhovian public, and indeed by our contemporaries across the ocean themselves -- who take our money and aid whilst publicly slandering our people with obscenely racist caricatures, freely pursuing a reckless policy of militarised nuclear proliferation all the while. When they have concerns, we have always been mindful to come to the negotiating table and work out a deal that is beneficial for everybody; but when we have concerns, they are almost never heard from again except for when we threaten to re-impose tariffs and withdraw our aid. In our view, the fragile partnership we have maintained has been strictly one-sided and not to our benefit.

The concerns we have for the incident at Newfortress are as very serious to ourselves as they are to the rest of the Oceanian people, and it is an issue we would like to resolve with a representative of the Oceanian people themselves, not just the figurehead for their rapacious ruling class oligopoly. If such a person exists, show us where, and we will welcome them openly. We cannot find them, and perhaps recent events have shown that the workers of Oceania are growing quite tired of looking for them too."

On yet another government briefing, Sarah Gold, the current foreign relations minister of Oceania was called onto the podium for yet another briefing, when she was subsequently told about the statement from her Batakhovian counterpart.

"Im sorry but... who was the one who invaded us again under the pretense of "freeing" us? Ah right it was the Batakhovians of course! It was known to us that that lovely pilot of ours didn't want to break their circumnavigation but its simply no reason to go to war over... suspected reverse engineering. And another thing, where are our negotiations? Well where are yours??? Or are you only going to speak to your so-called "golden savior of Oceania???" Who totally hasnt appeared already? Well I dont know about you but I've heard some rumors going around about a deal to place Batakhovian missiles into Oceania!

And our so called... reckless spending. Please tell me, have you even visited our country??? Have you seen all the ruins we have cleared? Have you not seen the insane amount of effort we have put in to clear the mines and unexploded ordinance not only our people but your people left here? And you know, these so called workers of Oceania, are entitled to their opinion, we will not oppress them in any way, but I find that the workers here, are more tired of rebuilding this nation from the ground up rather than the amount we spend on tanks, planes and boats to defend our freedoms and our policies and the safety nets we have to uphold this nation, our universal healthcare, our welfare, our education.

Not only that but our so called "racist" caricatures are the mere products of far right groups and those who want a second war to happen, compared to your narratives of us favoring the wealthy and being incredibly corrupt when the wealth gaps here don't even exist anymore because of our work! Poor or rich we are all one in the same, we are all Oceanian.

So by all means, Batakhovians, come here and meet with me, I can chat, I can talk, our whole country is wanting to talk, but I personally haven't heard a single word from any of you! But just so you know, I call b@#$*^t!

(Sarah was taken off stage after this incident - she has been placed under some scrutiny for this - mostly from Burke supporters, but has received widespread support from most of the nation. #b@#$*^t has gone somewhat viral on Oceanian social media because of this.)

"The 'honourable' Sarah Gold, proud court jester in her kingdom of corporatocratic folly, and apparently having mistaken diplomatic relations for a backstage brawl at a subpar comedy club, fails to realise that she needs the people, but the people do not need her. And that goes double for the people of the Commonwealth.

It is fascinating but unsurprising to see you brag that your government has kept the wealth gaps slim through the equal immiseration of the entire people. Forgive us if we decide not to take notes however, for Batakhovians believe that the hard worker deserves his fair share of his life's labour. Perhaps that is why you have never set foot in our country, for one such as yourself would no doubt find the idea of benefit through merit highly distasteful.

As is the nature of born liars and great apologists of Fascism (both of whom walk and talk in the same circles), you downplay and deflect from the numerous transgressions committed by the late and not-so-great Beylke Dirk, who consistently courted confrontation, undermining the national security of our Commonwealth long before the Vasilyezhynsk Incident. Who suppressed the people's right to free election whilst those in the Free Republic continued on unabated, and who killed thousands of his own people by cutting them off from essential infrastructure; to add insult to injury, you then protected him from accountability until the bitter end, a slap on the wrist and thirty pieces of silver for the lives of those he tossed away like scraps on his plate.

Why, then, should we degrade ourselves by hearing anything you have to say to us, when you are so patently dishonest and lacking in any moral character, or any goodwill towards the Batakhovian people (or the Oceanian people, for that matter, seeing as you are prepared to openly insult those who bravely took up arms to defeat the Fascists)? A passing remark is made, and the mask slips, and we see the face of the real Alberts government, who repeats the same empty childish catchphrases of their misanthropic progenitors. It is clear, from our perspective, that there is nothing you have to say that we would find beneficial or productive.

But as the old expression goes: the more flak you get, the closer you are to the target."
