Mardinan-Iterien War months 1-2
Following a series of attacks carried out against Mardinian politicians, military commanders, corporate leaders, and critical infrastructure the government of Mardinan declared war on Iterien believing that they were the ones responsible. Soon after the declaration of war an unsuccessful coup attempt was made by parts of the military, police and special forces. While the coup was unsuccessful during it Vicorium Klenei was heavily injured and fell into a coma. While the provisional government was being set up the remnants of the coup leadership with the support of roughly 50 thousand soldiers with the aid of a large portion of the Mardinian Airforce fled west, soon joined by volunteers from the SDU, the True Democratic Party, East Nardenia, Doberen and Balvara. They soon proclaimed the Mardinian Commonwealth with the goal of destroying Vicorium's government and bringing back democracy to Mardinan. Iterien, already at war with Mardinan, quicly recognized the independence of the Mardinian Commonwealth and sent forces to help them, consisting of 10 thousand soldiers and 10 thousand rangers as well as thousands of Nardenian volunteers. The united forces of the Mardinian Commonwealth and Iterien would soon come to be lead by Imperial Adviser Philip Kingsley would see initial victories being able to defeat much of the local forces which failed to coordinate as the central government was on fire however soon the government of Mardinan would begin its counter offensive. A total of 500 thousand troops would be sent to deal with the rebels. The Iterien and Rebel forces would begin an ordered retreat east, trying to avoid breaking formation or decisive battles. By the end of the retreat the Iterien and rebel forces held Iterien and East Nardenia and the battle of East Nardenia would begin. The Mardinan forces would face issues with supply and would have to spend large amounts of manpower occupying the western regions, and would struggle to break the well-fortified Rebel/Iterien line. One of the Mardinian commanders believed that the enemy simply used East Nardenia as a distraction, knowing that Mardinan would try to take it, to let them raise more troops and defend the river border between the two nations. Due to this, he, without government approval began his own offensive across the river. This offensive would see initial success as most of the enemy forces were in East Nardenia, however they would soon stall due to issues with re-supply and air support, heavy resistance by the local population and Iterien using cruise missiles to decimate the advancing forces. Following heavy debate, the Mardinan government would end their offensives as to improve supply, figure out military and civilian governance, and replenish the number of tanks and IFVs held by the army while a further 200 thousand soldiers were sent to the front. So far, any attempts by the rebels or Iterien to negotiate peace with the government have gone unanswered, due to this Iterien asked the international community to step in and help negotiate peace or at least a cease-fire between the two sides.
