Gus, the sensors are detecting that you are panicking, please calm down. At any rate, I can bring the CONclave closer, so you don't have to worry about the docking. Can't say the same for getting in orbit.

*Depresses the 'send' button and responds*

Roger CONclave, we read you. I'll check on Crewman Gus for you. He's back in the passenger cabin.

Negative on leaving the fixed orbit on the dark side of the moon. We still don't know what to expect from these primitive people and a shi as big as the CONclave might scare them into doing something rash. Repeat, maintain your position, over.

Pax Nerdvana wrote:Pax flips a couple of switches and presses a button. That's weird. They're not responding.

Sometimes you gotta fiddle with it.

Pax Nerdvana wrote:He presses the button several more times to no avail.

Aw, heck, it's probably a shorted circuit. Give it a good whack.

Pax's hand morphs into a mallet, and he hauls off and conks it.

*In the passenger cabin, the friendly space marine is about to show the snap-shots of he and his family at a bake sale for their church when there is another horrific wrenching sound, then a small explosion as a pencil-thin plasma conduit overloads, snaps free of its brackets and rips from the bulkhead, its severed end spinning wildly and spitting magma-hot sparks like an insane fireworks display. The deadly whip catches the soldier's arm just below the shoulder as he is about to pass the photo with enough force to cut through his armor and the soft flesh and fragile bone beneath. He looks with wonder at the stump, his arm hitting the floor still clutching the paper square of memories, then at Nathbor before he starts screaming, a sound quickly silenced as the flailing conduit again strikes blindly, this time decapitating him. The head falls to the floor of the cabin, followed by the other arm and then a leg severed at the upper thigh.*

*Nathbor himself screams hysterically, kicking at the severed head lolling against his boots*

Pax, hearing the screams, unstraps and jogs over.
Craaaap. The family man died. This day just keeps getting worse. That makes three casualties today.

Nathbor wrote:*Nathbor himself screams hysterically, kicking at the severed head lolling against his boots*

Plasma leak!

*The veteran spacer unbuckles his harness, wriggles free from the harness and dives to the floor below the deadly path of the spitting conduit*

Captain, cut the engines! Cut the engines and relive the pressure on the tertiary hydraulics! Now! Or we'll all be cut to ribbons!

*Well, he thinks, who didn't see that coming?*

By the Gods! Er... what's-his-name is dead?

*Sighs heavily, rubbing his tired eyes*

I was at his child's christening. His wife's home number is on my speed-dial. Now he's dead, cut to pieces and I can't even remember his name.

I think I'm in shock.

Lake of Fur wrote:what's-his-name is dead?

I think I'm in shock.

*Gus, thinking he might be in shock himself, leans down and slips the photos from the hand of the dead marine's severed arm with some effort and raises them to his face. A handsome young man in a crewcut standing next to his pretty wife in a simple flowered dress who is holding the hand of a small boy standing between them. All are smiling at the photographer. All look immensely happy. In the background one can see tables covered with colorful tablecloths and loaded with various baked goods under a banner which reads 'Wilmington Church of the Nazarene Bake Sale Today!'. Without really thinking about why, Gus slips the photos into his tunic.*

And then there were two...

*In the co-pilot's seat, the Lieutenant frantically flips the switches that power down the engines and adjusts all the hydraulic controls to their lowest possible setting. That done, he picks up the radio handset*

"CONclave... we have a problem."
